I have been keeping an eye on this for quite awhile. I missed the last price drop. At 52.60£ this is the lowest it has been so far. I wouldn't recommend this bat for beginners but it's a very good bat for intermediate level and above. Normal price range is 70-90£.

Description

Royal 5-star is the fastest and most powerful bat in the STIGA Royal series. The ideal bat for players who are looking for high speed in their game. With two layers of carbon and five layers of wood this bat provides an extra stability and a bigger sweet spot throughout the entire blade, resulting in ultimate power and touch while maintaining control. The Touch Carbon Technology reduces shock and vibration, giving you a cleaner feel at ball impact. The ITTF approved 5-star rubber has a 2,0 mm thick sponge and ACS technology. Just like the other bats in the Royal range, this bat is developed together with members of the Chinese National Team and with the same technologies as our professional blades and rubbers. Perfect for intermediate to competitive players.

    Why not for beginners?

It's just a personal opinion. This bat is more about speed and curve and less about control. For beginners, I find speed and curve less important while developing control and precision is more important. While as an intermediate (I like to think that I belong here), you've a decent control so you enjoy and focus more on speed and curve.
N.B When I said that it lacks control, this doesn't mean it Will result in mishits but it has a bigger sweet spot throughout the entire blade. Also, I think 50£ is a bit too much for a beginner's bat. (edited)

    Why not for beginners?

Bats with carbon would be too fast for beginners. Also, the level of feeling would be muted so it would be harder for beginners to improve and figure out how to adjust their strokes.

You can get a better custom combo for the same price. This blade isn't anything special.

I remember as a kid they had these concrete table tennis tables in the local park, and we'd take our bats and balls. Happy days...

Your Xiom is several leagues better than this. Keep your Xiom close.

I have Stiga Offensive Classic CR Non-WRB FL, how does this compare?

Your offensive classic may feel slower due to this bat being Off+ rated while the OC is rated Off-. However, you can easily use rubbers to compensate for speed while retaining the excellent feeling and control from the Offensive Classic. If you do want to switch to a carbon blade from your OC, I suggest an innerforce-style blade to start with as they retain a good amount of feeling due to the carbon layers being closer to the core. There are many many good options out there without paying Butterfly prices so a lot will then depend on personal preference, playing style, and level of ability.

What are you looking for in terms of playing characteristics? More flexibility? More control? More speed?
