Let me explain how to cancel the airtime.

When you received the device, you can either do ON DAY 1

    1. Go to online chat or call Voda give the 30 days notice, do not say the word CANCEL, then you could pay max 1 month airtime fee 20, 31 or 42.
    2. Request PAC/STAC, then port the voda data number out straight away or on day 15 (more safe), then you just pay the days you used before port out.

For myself, I got my PAC on day 1, port out few days later, final bill £-35 (£42 tariff)
If you were told you can't give notice or request pac bla bla, just f off, change another person.

Thanks OP, rude not to pick another one up. I couldn't see the £20 deal, but got the 30gb 1 month sim and device for £31. See under for method through 5g.co.uk.

ZTE MU5001 5G Deals - Save on a MU5001 5G contract - click on the 1 month 30gb sim. It says £100 upfront, but in the vodafone basket there is no upfront cost, just the £31 for the sim card. (edited)

Enter "30 days notice", eventually the bot will transfer you to an actual person then say "I'd like to give my 30 days notice as I only wish to use the service for 1 month". It was that easy for me, no attempt to keep me with them and I got my confirmation email 10 minutes later. (edited)

Technically similar, but a few differences,

    - The device emits a WiFI 6 signal, whilst phone hotspots only emit a WiFi 5 signal. The wifi signal is also slightly stronger than a phones can produce (in my experience)
    - It has a rj45 port, so you can connect it to a standalone router to provide the wifi in your home.
    - It has a internal battery, so it saves your phone battery being used up.
    - Subjective, but when using a phone as a hotspot I have noticed mobile companies throttle the speed, seems they can tell what I am doing (although they claim not to do this). With the ZTE I haven't had any throttling.

How easy is the cancellation? Can you do it all online?

I called, as believe the 30 days notice can only be given on the phone (happy to be proved wrong). Vodafone CS is a bit like banging your head against a wall. Took about 15mins to connect to someone, then about another 20-30 mins to get to the right person, then it was cancelled in about 1 minute.

Other people may have different/better approaches, but this was mine and my experience (edited)

Hi to everyone, not sure if I have got this right but I am not sure why a …Hi to everyone, not sure if I have got this right but I am not sure why a PAC code is needed, but I am not fully up to speed with these things. I do not have any kind of mobile sim contract with Vodafone - I just went for this deal a couple of days ago for this ZTE deal at £31.00. Mine arrived this morning, I went on to Live Chat and spoke to a really friendly and helpful agent. I gave the 'mobile number' that is showing once I logged into my online account, not the number on the back of the Data Sim that arrived this morning beginning with 00030. I just asked to cancel the 30 day rolling contract\sim. We were done within 5 minutes and I received this email while still on the Live Chat: Hello,We're very sorry to hear you'd like to disconnect your mobile number XXXXXXXXXXX.If you've decided to leave because of something we did wrong, we'd really like to make it up to you. Just get in touch and we'll do everything we can to keep you.Important informationIf there's nothing we can do to keep you with us, here's some important information to read before you go:Your final billWe'll continue to charge you up to and including your disconnection date on 08/Apr/2022 00:00:00. You'll then receive your final bill within 22 days which will include:

PAC will terminate the airtime agreement from the day it is used. Example I followed what you done above on a previous deal where it was £50 up front and £42 for the airtime agreement.

I then requested a PAC code. I received a message to say if I use the PAC code today the termination fee will be £6 for the one day I used the SIM So £50 up front and £6 airtime = £56 rather than £92.

I have also today received this deal. £0 up front got straight onto the chat and asked to give 30 days notice and get a PAC code. I have just used the PAC code and have received a message from vodafone saying my termination fees will be £0. If it really does come through at £0, I have paid £0 for the device and £0 for the airtime agreement. (edited)

Can I cancel the 30 day contract as soon as I receive this? It seems like too good a deal, which usually makes me worry!Does anyone know if I can hang on to the SIM and start the 30 day in a couple of months? I'm hoping to take this to a festival at the end of May. If it starts as soon as I receive it I'll cancel it and get a cheaper one nearer the time.

I think part of the practical problem here is being caused by problematic semantics.

14-day cooling off period is a period in which you can CANCEL your purchase. You'd normally receive a full refund/return to the position you'd have been in prior to making the purchase - except if you've plugged in the SIM card then they've got the right to bill you for any services used. That's why you'd be lining yourself for potentially being asked to return the free item. Cancel = as if the purchase never happened.

ENDING your contract is different. These sim agreements are only 30-day rolling periods, so you can end your contract without penalty after just one month.

They require 30 days notice to END the contract.

There's no reason whatsoever why you/we can't serve them 30 days notice on day one to END our contract at the earliest possible moment (day 31). However, if you/we continue to tie this process up in knots with the 14-day Cooling Off period during which we can CANCEL our purchase then is it really any wonder that Vodafone Customer Services are giving patchy responses?

As someone else said a little while ago, just tell them you want to provide 30 days notice of your intention to END your contract on day 31.

No that is full 5G on a windowsill - no external antenna. I'm an idiot so the guide in the link above should be fairly straightforward.
Remember if you cock up - you can always factory reset the modem.
Essentially it went like this for me on 3 -
Use Cellmapper website to find your local towers and the bands they use.
Follow the link to the guide in the comments, with the javascript code to get the hidden menus to pop up in Chrome or Firefox.
Click on turn off 4G( or 5G if you have it )
    Then you can change the bands on 4G. Choose from 1 / 3 / 20 / 1+3 / 1+20 / 3+20 or Auto to go back to default.
If the tower is able to provide 4G or 5G it'll change as you press enter. Then you just turn the 4G or 5G back on.
Speed test it to confirm. You can use the yellow or green bars at the top to fine tune your routers location near the window etc.
The lines show signal quality and signal noise ratio if I remember correctly.
    And that is it.
Remember it's fine if you're using it as a home router. But if the tower (i.e band) you use goes down or you need to use the router on the move then you will need to change the band settings again.

    Onlydongles18/03/2022 11:32

Also without doing any of that - you can go into the standard settings on the 192.168.0.1 router homepage and select whether you want 4G/5G or 3G/4G/5G. Choose 4G/5G so it only serves those. If you cock up you can always go back and change the options. Remember to change these settings you need to turn off the internet (not the WiFi but the 3G/4G/5G ON/OFF button with the signal bars next to it on the main page.

    Yours sincerely

Very impressed with this little router.

Today I swapped out the Dlink dwr-921 4g router that I have in my static caravan holiday home.
With the Dlink I was only getting around 10-15Mbps speed on EE as there is no 5g signal there.

Same EE sim card in the ZTE and I'm getting 75-80Mbps on 4G. Amazing.

I think this is the best way for those on 30 day data plans, go on live chat, give 30 day notice to terminate rolling contract, then you will get an email confirmation, on the email you will see the phone number associated with the sim card.
Now that you have the phone number ,start a new live chat and ask for the PAC code, make sure the sim is on as you will need to provide a security code to the agent, then you will get a text with the PAC code.
As soon as the PAC code is used, you should only be billed up to the period the number was active on Vodafone. So it's up to when you want to use the PAC code, you have 30 days to use it.
Hope this helps and happy to be corrected. (edited)

I don't understand why 21 pages later people are still asking the same question.
Go on an e-chat with them, say you're giving 30 days notice as you only need the device for 1 month. They'll bill you the £31 or £42 (whatever package you went for) and that's it. Stop trying to sneak the system with PAC codes etc, just accept the device will cost you £31 or £42 and there's no dramas. I did this yesterday and reading the comments on here I expected it to be an ultra stressful experience but it was honestly so simple.

I did the £31 deal and received the item today. The first chat operator stated he couldn't do anything as it was in the 14 day period, even though I made it clear that I did not want to cancel my order, but just the plan.
I then went straight back in and the next operator understood, cancelled my monthly plan and direct debit and allowed me to pay online. 5g mobile router for £31 is great. I'm happy to use the month of data to test it out. What a great deal. Thanks! This will come in handy when on holiday as me and the Mrs both have Plusnet mobiles which are crap out in the sticks!

For anyone else who ordered and haven't yet cancelled; I called up and it was easy to do. 30 days' notice triggered easily enough.

They did offer me a good deal on an alternative: £10p/m for 100GB (18 months contract) which was much better than the £31 for 30GB original contract. So heads up that's available when cancelling.
