Anyone who is knowledgeable with phones, would you say this or the pixel 7?
    bobbyh89's avatar
The Pixel 7 is a lot more powerful all round and twice the price of this. This is more of a mid range phone whereas the Pixel series are more higher end phones.

The only upsides to this are the IR blaster, much faster charging and the fact it's half the price of the Pixel 7. (edited)

Are Xiaomi still the best value phones? I have a Xiaomi Mi 9t but the pop-up front camera is faulty so can't do Teams/Zoom meetings now. Fine apart from that, 48mp camera is still great, hoping for a similar updated model though as not worth repairing probably, would this be a good replacement? Happy to wait for Black Friday if need be
    AngryCoffeeTable's avatar
Id still say they are pretty damn good value. On the other hand some of the motorola deals that have been popping up recently have totally blown Xiaomi out of the water.

I dont like MiUi so I lean heavily towards motorola but their update policy sucks which is typical of Lenovo.

Im personally waiting for another motorola deal to pop up as i dont want to deal with VERY (edited)

A headphone jack in 2023? Why?
    williemanjaro's avatar
I have some real quality Seinheiser headphones with microphone, which plug in to the 3.5mm socket. Nothing Bluetooth compares to these headphones, and there is no battery to go flat.

Please may I ask what exactly makes any smartphone "PRO"??
They range from this, approx £300, to £1000 for Other Brands, Why?? (edited)
    cameron.carter's avatar
Different brands define PRO in different ways. It's meaningless, it's just a marketing buzzword.

Look at the specs, read/watch reviews.

I recently bought the Note 10 Pro, and the 12 has a few improvements on that, so I'd say they're good solid value for money phones, especially for those who need a proper headphone jack and SD card memory.

Only downside for me are their ROMs, which contain the usual annoying bloatware. I recommend installing a 3rd-party ROM, if you're willing to do that. The procedure for unlocking the bootloader is irksome, but otherwise the usual rooting and installing other ROMs is straightforward enough.
    pablo_el_diablo's avatar
no roms as mediatek at least the 12 pro

How does this compare v poco x3 nfc anyone?
    malarkeymarc's avatar
I upgraded from the x3 nfc, and am very pleased. Charging, screen, camera are all much better and battery duration is superb. So nice to do a 15 minute battery top up once per day!

With MIUI is Nova launcher usable? I read it doesn't work with MIUI 14, but dunno if that's out of date info.
    Mooney70's avatar
I'm on miui 13 and use nova launcher just to have my apps in order. Something that i couldn't do before. No idea about miui 14 as i can't update to it.

    Wireless charging?
    DevUK's avatar
    No
  9. McFaddy526's avatar
Brought this recently I find the camera not very good (particularly at trying to snap moving things like the dog!) but otherwise fine so far.
    cbflazaro's avatar
    That's down to shutter speed.
Shoot in brighter light or manual settings (speed up shutter at cost of higher ISO)
  10. EN1GMA's avatar
So which is better from the 12 pro versions, 4g version or 5g? Or is that the only difference with everything else the same?
    Neostar's avatar
5G is way with better design
  11. FieldMarshal's avatar
Good specs however I decline due to alleged esp1onage and privacy concerns with OEM's country of origin. Sorry not for me, just too risky
    Yas_Min's avatar
I'd be more worried about your own countries.
China won't be able to block your bank account for going to a protest

I have an Huawei p20 lite. For my user it has been perfect and service me well and it's still going strong. I don't see the need to keep switching mobiles every year or two or buying the highest spec mobile. When I do buy my next one it will probably something like this. With the £40 in points it'll be an absolute bargain.
    J.D's avatar
    Good for you.

Great phone 5G a plus but no memory card slot - 256GB is nothing now a days. (edited)
    Yas_Min's avatar
We're going to have phone compatible SSDs soon enough. Probably inbuilt into a shockproof case
  14. malct1's avatar
I have this phone, feels very light compared to the pro 9 note that I still have and feels cheap . Still it does a good job.
    J.D's avatar
Light is good. Why would you want to carry a brick around everwhere with you in your pocket?

Any idea what the camera is like on this please? I've got the Redmi Note 10 Pro ATM and it always seems to take blurry pictures
    samgillespie1990's avatar
You are definitely in the minority with a problem with the camera on the 10 Pro. The cameras on both the 11 Pro & 12 Pro are not as good.

What is the cheapest Xiaomi phone that would be a upgrade on a iPhone XR... my launch one is getting old now, and not sure if it's worth having a new battery installed at £60, as well as the charging port being a pain in the ass with all cables (yes I cleaned it out)... not as into my phones these days so want to spend no more than £300...
    lehaandreev's avatar
I upgraded my XR to Poco f5 pro. No point keeping xr any longer the battery is pretty much dead plus iOS 17 crippled the phone and it massively underperforms.

What is IP rating of this phone?
    Mail's avatar
"The Redmi Note 12 Pro is IP53-rated for dust and light splash resistance, a common thing among most Redmi and Poco phones." - gsmarena.com/xia…php

I am looking to replace my aging Pixel 4A, Is the camera on this better?

    Cheers!
    cameron.carter's avatar
Significantly better, yes. This actually has a fantastic main camera sensor for the price (the Sony IMX766)
  25. azl's avatar
Worth an upgrade from note 5 Pro?😄
  26. EN1GMA's avatar
Anyone who has this confirm the camera quality on this please? Thanks

Thinking about replacing my Honor View 20 (6gb/128gb). Assume this would be a decent upgrade? I'm lost on the phone tech these days.
  28. Eez1's avatar
whats my best bet price/spec wise for an upgrade over an 8 pro

Decent replacement for my Huawei P20 Pro which is on its last legs? Battery lasts about as long as me running for a bus these days....

    The BEST Smartphone is...

The ONE that suits all your requirements at the Price You are Comfortable with
    - same for every consumer product IMHO
    - eg. A Tennis Racquet for £100 is More-Than good enough for an 8 year old, BUT clearly insufficient for a Wimbledon Tournament.

"PRO" is about as relevant/important as "Celebrity" IMHO (edited)

    Expired now?
    cameron.carter's avatar
Yes, it the coupon was only active over the weekend. Although Xiaomi have now published a 10% coupon several weekends in a row, so check back next weekend.

If nothing else, it will probably be the same price or cheaper on Black Friday.
