Amazon no longer to support old Kindle

Just been informed my old Kindle will not be supported and I will not be able to download books from August 2022.
Is there anyway I can hack/ jailbreak my device to allow me to use wi-fi to continue to download?
TIA

Are you sure it includes downloading? The email I got from Amazon last night says I will no longer be able to "browse, buy or borrow books directly", but further down the email, it states:

"Can I still read on my Kindle?
Yes. You can still access your existing library from your Kindle, deliver newly purchased or borrowed books to it, or download books from your Archived Items."

Another vote for calibre. It converts epub to kindle mobi as well which I have found very useful.

That's all changing too. I received this email from them after sending a mobi file

We wanted to let you know that starting August 2022, you’ll no longer be able to send MOBI (.mobi, .azw) files to your Kindle library. Any MOBI files that are already in your library will not be affected by this change. MOBI is an older file format and won’t support the newest Kindle features for documents. Any existing MOBI files that you want to read with our most up-to-date features for documents will need to be re-sent in a compatible format.Compatible formats now include EPUB (.epub), which you can send to your library using your Send to Kindle email address. We’ll also be adding EPUB support to the free Kindle app for iOS and Android devices and the Send to Kindle desktop app for PC and Mac.

I use PC software called calibre ebook, it's free but I make an annual donation.

You can download Plugins for it too, so that you put ebooks from other sources on it, handy for Google books.

Just another example of the lack of longevity in some appliences. No …Just another example of the lack of longevity in some appliences. No wonder our electrical skip is always full at our council tip.

tbf, I'm pretty sure that that model is over 10 years old. if anything then I'd be happy to have a device that operates after 10 years of use.

That's why having software like calibre is great, I found it when a relative had built a library of eBooks on a Nook eReader. When they announced they wouldn't be selling Digital content in the UK, she decided to swap to a Kindle and I was able to download and convert her eBooks across.

Also, it doesnt have to go to a skip, it can be sold on, people will be happy to buy it, either to use with other software or just to use for parts.

Really? Which Kindle model do you have? As I understand it only the Kindle 1 (2007) and DX (2009) are going to stop working, and then only in the US until at least 2023 when the UK ones may stop working (and even then, only if BT goes ahead with switching off 3G)

It's actually my SIL so I'm unsure of the model but it is very old and the size of a piano.
    She received an email today.

I took that to mean purchases prior to them stopping future downloads. I suppose I can download load on mine then transfer across, it just seems a lot of faff. Just another example of the lack of longevity in some appliences. No wonder our electrical skip is always full at our council tip.

What I was about to say - it's one way to get pdfs on them. But iirc they've recently introduced the same for converting epubs.

It just appears to mean they you can't buy them or browse the store. Seems like there is nothing stopping you buying books on the Amazon app etc. They will still download on to your Kindle
