You will not own the router - at the end of the contract it must be sent back.

I bought this few weeks back. Key thing is placing, it seems to change significantly with very minor shifts. I checked first that I had a good 5G signal in my area and there's a transmitter not far from me so odds were good. Plus you can return if you bought it online and have no luck (please check).

I was with virgin, contract finishing, they didn't offer me lower than the massive increase, and retentions never actually called me back either so I went for this. Tried it on the floor in the office, on the shelf, in different parts of the house. Basically place it then log in and you can see the bars then put your phone next to it and do the google speed test. I got a bit obsessed.

In worst places in my house it was about 50MB and laggy, in best places it goes up to 400MB+ (my virgin was 100). However, that extra speed isn't really noticable as streaming and web surfing are already maxed out. Now it averages about 100-200 and ping is solid so no lag and it isn't affected by weather. I finally placed in the top corner of bedroom shelf (at a slight angle!) and that's my sweet spot and no I'm not tempted to keep fiddling, honestly!

In terms of wifi sharing with other devices though it's very poor, I'll get really good speed next to it but even in the next room it seems to drop down from 5G to 2G and you get a solid average 2G speed. I have the Tenda MW6 mesh and even just one is tonnes better at spreading the signal around so one upstairs, one in the far corner downstairs (I wouldn't recommend the MW6 though, they're pretty flakey and there's much better out there).

So middle of the day during the week it's like 400 down and 15 up. Midday on the weekend it's about 80 down and 4 up. So even on the slowest it's comparable to virgin. If it's helpful my average ping to eg google.com is about 30ms and that's from a PC in the next room connected via a wifi 6 pcie card to the MW6 mesh.

[Note for some reason i would always get lower speeds connecting directly to the Three router via ethernet, than if I connected via wifi. Never figured out why but less wires in the house for better performance is fine by me].

So I use mine for work constantly and never drops out. If I was a gamer I'd probably just stick with fibre and a direct ethernet connection.

I have the same issue with low speed when connected via wire and in my knowledge I think its because the network cards normally come in PC/laptops are 100/10 or max 100/100 mbps and same with the utp wire so pc cant handle more speed than what its network card can't take.

    Hope it helpz

FYI: Had a lot of issues with this as a router - might want to get a seperate router, and use this as a modem if you need even some relatively basic features like DDNS, IP reservation.

I'm considering ditching my virgin broadband for this, would you recommend? are there any downsides? latency or perhaps bad service when there's bad weather? idk

Can you tell me what settings you had to adjust on the modem please?

I bought an omnidirectional antenna and enabled the antenna setting via the hidden menu found on other threads, but the signal strength reading isn’t really changing. Shows -95/-96 with antenna enabled or disabled.

On the 3 branded router the 'auto-updates' doesn't do much, I had that switched off but still got pushed to B07 upgrade debacle, then 3 done a firmware down grade back to B04 after mass outcries.

Can you set contract start date, or does it start once order is complete?

Starts when order is complete. Just received my first bill and it started from the day it was delivered

Unfortunately, I can only get a signal from Vodafone out here in the sticks. Much more expensive.

I took a punt on this deal a few months ago with Three. I was getting amazing speeds of 300mbps until day 7 hit....the mast in my area went down and needed fixing. I waited day by day hoping it would be back up and running again. I was literally on the 14th day and thank God for the cooling off period, I had to eventually cancel it. It's too much of a gamble to be committed to a contract where the technology is hit and miss when masts go down in service! With that said, be very careful when you take out this deal!

I got this a week ago. In an area that doesn’t have 5G advertised on the Three website. I used a London postcode just to be able to get to the ordering page. My router is however locking onto a 5G signal. When using the router placement tool it tells me it’s at a poor location. I’ve tried all window sills and made all minor adjustments and It’s in the best place it can be for my home, going to try some external antennas to see if it helps the signal. Download speeds have varied between 80-160 Mbps, most of the times 100 or above, so I can’t complain about the speeds. I know 5G is capable of delivering way more so I’m going try what I can to squeeze out as much of it as possible

Assalamalaikum. The placement tool is very rough, it doesn't tell you much more than to put it higher up. Also note that on the front of the router, the top three lights are an indication of signal strength, so if they're all lit up then you're good but TBH it's only a bit helpful. If you can get a rough idea of where your nearest 5G is then put in the farthest highest corner of your house closest to it then you probably wont go far wrong. Maybe even loft?

I test by putting my phone next to it, and doing the google speed test. Once you're happy with the location of it then alls you need is a good wifi router attached via ethernet.

Also occasionally I find you need to reboot it, not sure why! You can set the maintainence option to reboot it daily or weekly.

I ordered this and it arrived today. Getting a message that the password is incorrect, so suspect that this has been used by someone else previously and they've changed the password. I'm not sure how to get in touch with three, as I need to enter the mobile no. of the device. Assuming I might be able to get hold of it by putting the SIM in a mobile...? Sorry if this is a really basic question...

Try opening up the little panel at the bottom and there might be a reset button, it may require you put a pen in and hold it there for ten seconds or something. Normally you need the item to be plugged in and on to do this, then the lights will probably flash and it'll go back to the factory settings.

Sadly my topcashback doesn't seem to have gone through though so far... Took screenshots just in case but don't think they'll be accommodating from previous experience tbh...

Anyone in South London having this? My landline is max 35Mb and really tempted to get one!

Depends where in south London but yeah I have it and it's brilliant had a couple of day it's dropped out but other then that seen some serious speeds. Compared to my virgin fibre it is much more reliable. I do have the old cpe Pro router so can't comment on this particular router.

jnm21 tried replying to you're comment ..... No quote button
You keep repeating ... I went on live chat with manager and I've recorded chat script I mentioned to the manager that was the only thing holding me back from getting the deal was told I get to keep router .... YES "I know" what three terms state ... If I get to keep that's a bonus ... If I don't I'm at no loss

    ..
If you purchase then yes go with the terms (send router back else you're be charged )
For me I'm going with I get to keep router (ps with no charge ) (edited)

You do that, HUKD rules are to play it safe with regards what we expect, hence cashback is not included in the price.

You keep quoting a webchat with 3 support, I keep quoting the three site - I am well aware of both - I'm well aware which is wise.

For those who have this and are talking about mast failures does it drop back onto 4g or 3g when that happens or are you just left with no internet at all?
    Jammer's avatar
    Jammer
If you leave the network connection mode to 'auto' it will fall back to 4G. Although in my area, Three's 4G is terrible, but the 5G signal I get is 20x faster.

    Anyone know if these would work with the Three ZTE hub;

    cpc.farnell.com/rf-…nna

If so they could be a very cheap external antenna.

How would I get this 5g if not in a 5g postcode?

    is there a way

    Enter a postcode that does have 5G. I used N1 1NF

How have you managed to get access to buying this? No matter what postcode I put in it just shows check availability option and not buy.
    Popeye_the_Sailor's avatar
    Popeye_the_Sailor
Try N1 1NF. It worked for me using that postcode. When ordering just enter your address correctly for the billing. Turns out I get a 5G signal at my house anyway despite their website saying it’s not available in my area

Anyone else had a problem getting their £60 Master card - spent hours on the phone being told numerous things 45 -90 days, it was sent on the 29th June, you will get it resent in the next 5 days. I ended up threatening to cancel and they added £60 credit to my account to cover the missing card.
