Just been to France. You only need a covid pass if vaccinated or an antigen test if not. They didn’t ask to see any of these. Had my covid pass (vaccinated) & nobody checked there or back. It will be obsolete soon.

I hate that I’m saying this, but I’d pick EuroStar over flying any day. When work pay it’s a no brainer; when I pay it’s £20 return to St Pancras, or £80+ to park at Stansted or Luton. Gets you right to the destination the other end normally too (Brussels, Paris, Disney etc.)

Just been to Paris this weekend and yeah it was great to queue for 2 hours at St Pancras and back again 1.5 hours at Gare du Nord. Both trains over an hour delay as well as the queuing. Rushing passengers to the waiting area to charge 3£ for a bottle of water.
I've done Eurostar several times and yes it is so convenient but the customer service is shocking and the prices just keep increasing. But they have the market and no gov will ever dare to regulate that.

To add, I had covid in November and even with certificates and PCRs they didn't even let me reschedule for a fee.

It could be the best in class transport system of the planet but the greed is just over the top.

Anyway, enough ranting. I agree, but they need to improve a lot.

As usual the best prices are are odd times during the week, nothing decent for someone looking to travel over the weekend..

Any recommendations for any easily reachable onward destinations from these cities?
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
Brussels - Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp, Leuven are all worth a look.
Amsterdam - Haarlem, Alkmaar, Amersfoort, Zwolle, Hoorn & Enkhuizen
Rotterdam - Delft, Dordrecht, Breda, Gouda, The Hague, Leiden, Utrecht

You can't really go wrong in Holland, all those places are within an hour of onward travel.
Everywhere is nice, you don't have to stay in Amsterdam which can be very expensive.

    Replying to

With the recent travel chaos - I might prefer Eurostar..again for the cheaper flight you need to travel to Gatwick or Stansted and the cost of taxi or parking is more than the flight itself..I have been there done that all of these models to realise this is the best way to travel..overall cheapest cost..

Not voting either way but all the time EU Covid restrictions remain in place then we aren't holidaying in Europe.

We're not jabbed so sitting it out. France is the easiest to gain entry but we're not interested in France (cesspit, much like the UK) unless travelling through.

Anyway, we're off on a domestic holiday next week as path of least resistance. Expensive, though.

I went to Paris the other weekend… deffo a cesspit.
but no one mentioned any covid regs at all..not at either airport or any place that I went into
  8. Jazzer94's avatar
Just fyi that code also works on earlier dates (for me july ones)
  9. djfw's avatar
Amazing, been keeping an eye out for this, thank you. Really pleased that the discount applies to wheelchair and companion tickets too which are a flat £39 to start
  10. steven_stott's avatar
And Ashford Ebbsfleet still not opening any time this year
    deleted1945554's avatar
Not sure what that's about but suspect continual 'Covid' nonsense.

If I had to travel to London from Ashford or Ebbsfleet to catch the Eurostar back again, then I wouldn't bother.

    Simple as that.

Rubbish. Times and dates are pants for anyone with kids. Much easier to drive or fly and stomach the extra cost and much less stress.

    Great deal

Couldn’t pay me to go to Paris, almost as bad as London
Shame they don’t have a train to Mallorca (edited)
    oh_my's avatar
Yeah, at least you can get Only Fools and Horses on the telly in Mallorca bars.

You should give London another go. You might like Peckham.
  14. DaveAndPauline's avatar
Good price. London to Glasgow would cost about 3x as much lol
    RedDevilPJB's avatar
And you end up in Glasgow!
  15. Zedmeister's avatar
    Any covid restrictions for Amsterdam?
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
No restrictions for us (fully vaxxed) when we went in April.
However, you should always check the latest position on official Gov websites, as you'll get conflicting or wrong advice on here. (edited)

Hello, is this now expired? Tried some august dates and I’m getting a ‘code not valid’ message
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
Code is valid for travel dates, late August to September 22nd.
You're probably picking dates too early for the offer to be valid, or some dates will be blacked out over the August B/H weekend.

I just tried for Amsterdam Sep 13th to 20th and the code works OK. (edited)
  17. MarsuJr's avatar
The discount code SUMMER20 already works on the site for current tickets in July/August and just gave me a 20% discount at checkout, thanks!
  18. kevsmith2000's avatar
47579281-AtLbu.jpgAny idea why just the return journey has been discounted? (edited)
    Az-zee-A's avatar
There are blackout dates and I think 26th Aug is one of them
  19. Reena7's avatar
Can you book a single before September 22 at £50, then kick the date into 2023 to go then?
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
If it's a flexible ticket, you have to pay the difference in fares when you change he dates.
So yes, but it won't save you any money.
  20. grapes's avatar
Very restrictive dates for amsterdam in aug - like the last 1 1/2 weeks of august- i checked when it this was first posted. pity
  21. maccalen's avatar
Does the Eurostar have Broadband and plug in points for laptops etc?
    silver89's avatar
It has plugs on each seat with UK and EU plugs. From experience the onboard wifi is useless, however mobile support is good for a majority of the journey if you are able to roam.
  22. DBrickerz's avatar
Great deal, gutted I’m going in October though just missed the dates
  23. Ralph888's avatar
Factor in possibility of RMT rail strikes if they don't get a pay increase , first shutdowns 21st, 23rd and 25th June if you need connecting trains to Eurostar. These could carry on in July and August
  24. EQL's avatar
    Greener than flying (roughly 9x).
  25. ghostmjr's avatar
Anyone got any cheap recommendations for central hotels in Paris? Great train price just need a cheap central hotel to go with it.
  26. jalaldevil's avatar
I do love the convenience of Eurostar landing right in the centre of the City, cheaper to get to your hotel as well.
  27. Alanquilligan's avatar
    Hi
  28. JoeUK's avatar
Eurostar is so overpriced considering the price of flying.

    Can't see Lille? Any ideas
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
Paris and Brussels are an hour or less from Lille, or London in 80 minutes!
We stayed in Lille once, and did Eurodisney as a day trip, direct trains from Lille to the front gate.
