I got a few to work on the old self checkouts (some stores will still have them) but they had to be approved by staff.
It’s just a shame that it’s more effort than it’s worth to try and argue or reach out to some kind of customer service team.
like you I don't wan't to seem like i'm a complainer but I had to pay 25p at the Tesco Express as well
so it wasn't free,
