This is probably a bit niche, but, if I put it on here, then you can decide for yourself whether it's of interest or not.

Hornby have, today, released a new sized model railway, the TT:120 - it is smaller than their usual 00 - I'm told this is a good idea for people with not a lot of space, but who don't want to go as small as N gauge.

Along with this new release, they are offering FREE membership to the TT120 club for 1 year. Normally this would be £30 in the UK or £35 for the rest of the world (embarrassingly it took me ages to work out what ROW stood for)

With this membership you receive certain benefits. A pin badge (as a pin collector, that's me covered ), and other things as below -

The Hornby TT:120 Club
Join the Hornby TT:120 Club today and gain access to exclusive products and content! By joining the Club, you will receive a whole host of benefits, including a 15% discount off all Hornby TT:120 products, which are exclusively available on the Hornby website.

If you are not currently a member, join for FREE for a limited time*. Once you become a member, your exclusive discount will be automatically applied at the checkout and can be used multiple times. Discover the benefits of becoming a member below.

15% off all TT:120 purchases for a year,
4 magazines,
Entry to the Hornby Visitor Centre Museum (I've been, it's in Margate. It's a good place for nostalgic adults and well behaved children - there are things that can be played with - but it's not a 'theme park' for kids which some people seemed to think judging by their reviews).

They do sell Hornby products there, including mementos, but check your prices, it's not always cheaper.

Tip, if two of you are going to go, both sign up for the free membership, that way you'll both get in free.

There's some other bits and pieces - see link
uk.hornby.com/com…lub

Him indoors says they seem to be putting some serious money into this new size railway. I believe this is meant to be more suitable for smaller houses because you can put it on a board and slide it under the bed.

You can still join the 'normal' Hornby club with discounts off their other products, but it's not free. They're not replacing 00 with this, it's just an additional size that's a bit more compact.

Anyway, as I said, you're either into this, or you're not. I'm just sharing it in case.

I wasn't sure if this should have gone in the freebie section, but the 15% off swayed me here instead. If you think it should be moved, by all means, go ahead.

Thanks, when you don't know what the heck you are talking about, you can only put in as much as you can and from your own experience, lol.

I wasn't sure anyone would be interested, so I'm just glad to see the heat added. I'm warming my hands on it right now

    Thanks OP - chuffed
I've already got a house full of OO and N, so I won't be investing, but might be interesting to see what the 'new' gauge is all about - for free.
With the 'normal' Hornby collector's club, you used to get a free loco (albeit a dubious 0-4-0, which went like a scalded cockroach, but couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding... Until they replaced it with a £20 voucher).
My local model centre wouldn't honour the 10% Hornby discount card, claiming "we heavily discount our prices, anyway". (edited)

Thanks. His lordship does have membership of the normal club. They do still get a free 'thing' (I don't know, something train related, lol) and access to others at a discounted price.

We used to have the same thing regarding discounts with our local store, but with model flying club discounts. They soon went out of business.

Not sure what TT:120 is like but enjoyed the first 2 Trainspotting films.

Hornby have, today, released a new sized model railway

That would be news to my grandad who had a TT scale model railway for many years (before he died 20 years ago)!
But thanks for posting: I hadn't realised Hornby were going into that market. I might sign up for the free year just out of curiosity.

Yes, my Husband has just told me that it was something they were working on a while back, but this is a totally new release that they are going into big time.

Further info from my other half. Apparently they gave this TT size a try in the 1960's (no doubt what your granddad had) but there was a problem with it and they couldn't sell it internationally. This 'new version' had corrected that (edited)

Too small apparently. My Husband has a whole box of N guage that he can't see properly.

As long as this is the membership he wants. Because it's not the ordinary membership.

Just to let you know rest of world has been added - Up until now ROW seemed to be excluded

I didn't think it was, as you could certainly get the paid version, but as long as it works now, that's all that matters.

In a 'sort of' update - we were near Margate last week (do not even mention the bridge protesters!) and called in to the Hornby Visitor's Centre for some lunch. They have a nice little cafe there. The other half nipped out to see what they had in the way of TT-120 models. He knew he wouldn't be able to buy any but thought there would have been something. He thought wrong! Even the guy behind the counter hadn't seen it. Bear in mind that they are now doing most of the work in this building, when it was previously done off site, you'd think they would have something on show, wouldn't you? All that actually had was the leaflet about this free 1 year membership thing.
He did find a couple of reduced models of the older international version but the prices were astronomical.

Not a great incentive tbh. The independent model shops often have better deals than buying direct from hornby. Typically the same 15% I find. Plus the model shops do customer service so much better. I might miss out on the odd sold out preorder but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make. (edited)
