Bought one and returned straight away, the flex in the body is awful. The screen was amazing but it’s so plastic I couldn’t trust putting it in my bag every day (edited)

    Problems with the trackpad?!!!
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, I ordered last time and touchpad is appalling, literally the worst of any laptop I’ve used. You can fix it by opening, removing the battery and adjusting the support bar. However as it’s dropped in price I’ll return and reorder.

If you are using the touchpad be aware as it is really badly assembled, very rattly and wobbly.

I've owned, used and been a fan of Asus products (motherboards, graphic cards) for years and bought a laptop last year which has completely changed my opinion. I've had many issues with it including touchpad and sticky buttons, freezing issues due to processor throttling (not overheating) and just recently the wireless adapter seems to have died. This is 11 months into its life. I had a Sony laptop before it for 7 years without any probs before one day it just died which is when I replaced it with the Asus one. Unfortunately I can't recommend Asus anymore.

Friend of mine had similar situation with the ROG laptops.

good price - anyone know what the real life battery life is like on these things?
    teamonkey's avatar
Would be good to know. I have used the higher-spec i7 Asus Vivobook Pro and the battery life totally stinks. Not only can it not last more than an hour or so on the train doing only really basic admin work, it also uses a lot of power with the lid closed and a full battery is drained in standby mode overnight. If you leave it on standby in a laptop bag overnight, you'll find the bag toasty-warm inside in the morning! This one *should* be less power hungry, but if it's as bad as the Pro I used it's a deal-breaker for me.

Voted hot! One of the best deals I've seen lately on laptops. I am not sure it has USB C charging, if it does not, that's a bit of let down.
    plewis00's avatar
    It doesn't allegedly.
But I have one here (with a dodgy touchpad) that I will test now.

Confirmed - does NOT have USB C charging. (edited)

Hi, is this a good laptop for general computer work and as well my wife does photography and would use Photoshop and Lightroom?
    jjames87's avatar
Absolutely. This thing compares well with my desktop computer I built last year! cpubenchmark.net/com…700

It will smash PS and Lightroom.
  7. tawse57's avatar
Is it easy to fix the trackpad?

What are Asus like generally for driver support and build quality?
    plewis00's avatar
You need to unscrew and open the machine carefully, remove the battery and then bend the support bar towards the touchpad. Then flip it over and see if you have resolved it. It is worth it for what's a great spec machine otherwise, but yet another ASUS engineering failure.

I posted some details in the previous thread. It's not difficult but you need proper tools. (edited)
  8. Mook2000's avatar
This is a stonker by anyone's measure. Just to note: this doesn't support USB-C charging which dissuaded me from buying, and went with the Honor Magicbook 14 for 30% less.

Also, how come this is so damn cheap with this spec? If something's too good to be true....
    plewis00's avatar
Honestly, probably because of the persistently bad touchpad causing negative reviews - it is worse than £100 netbooks if left unchecked. Beyond that, there are no problems I'm aware of. It is 5000-series not 6000 or 7000-series so might be clearance too.
  9. tawse57's avatar
Apparently there are versions of this that do come with a gpu.
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, an Intel one on Amazon has a GTX 1650 but it’s 8GB RAM fixed and a pretty bad quad-core 11th Gen (underpowered) so ends up being a compromise.
  10. madmiddle's avatar
Would this spec be ok for photo editing ? (edited)
    blackcoffee's avatar
Yes, the display is great and color accurate. Also pretty fast CPU.

    Good spot
  12. plewis00's avatar
Wow, didn’t expect to see this again at this price, let alone £40 cheaper!

    Thanks (edited)

Thought this was an amazing deal, then I realised it wasn't the zenbook deal I'm waiting for. It looks like tis about 2-250 more.. Basically for build quality
    sheffield788's avatar
Zenbook with these specs at £500 is a dream. This is a very good deal. (edited)

90hz oled people. You left the most important spec out

    vhero's avatar
About on par to be fair.
  18. Shloime_Grunfeld's avatar
    And I bought for £490.

But seller just cancelled on me and has emailed saying “we only accept bank transfers at the moment and please transfer this money to this account…”
    plewis00's avatar
Was that from the hacked Nutwell account?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what sort of desktop GPU the 5800h compares to? In terms of similar performance
  23. Shloime_Grunfeld's avatar
So do you reckon this is the best one can do for under £500 price range?
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, undoubtedly. The 5800H is an upper-end CPU that you would be lucky to get for less than £700 most of the time, the 90Hz OLED panel is also a great addition.
  24. yeotruetoo's avatar
Help please, have this on order hotukdeals.com/dea…515 but is this better for my son who wants a gaming laptop?
    plewis00's avatar
The Dell is a proper gaming laptop. This ASUS is not, it's more of a mid-range Creator laptop. If gaming, you want the Dell G15 all day long.
  25. Forecaster's avatar
Ordered, thank you very much OP!
  26. hornblowerracing's avatar
Would this be suitable for my 17 year old doing digital media at college?

They use Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects etc.

Lack of a GPU worries me but I know nothing about laptops!
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, probably fine as the CPU is powerful and does most of the heavy lifting and the display is accurate, calibrated and wide gamut.
  27. Phade's avatar
    This is banging
  28. DealTron's avatar
    Great price. Heat 🔥
  29. the_king8xN's avatar
Could this do 4k video editing or better to get one with a dedicated gpu?

Also would it output 4k resolution okay to my TV ?

    Thanks. (edited)
    jjames87's avatar
I'd want a GPU for that, personally.
  30. beanbaka's avatar
Not a tech guy but seems a good deal ordered
    beanbaka's avatar
    Amazon conveniently lost it ᜵😡
  31. applefanboy25's avatar
Sorry if it’s a stupid question but this okay for very light gaming like fm 23 ?
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, FM23 can literally run on a toaster! This laptop has specs far beyond what's required. The minimum requirements are a Core 2 Duo from 2006
  32. rev6's avatar
Can it be charged via USB C?
    Mook2000's avatar
Hate to sound like I'm moaning on this awesome spec but no, it doesn't.
  33. Muhib_Rachid's avatar
    Ouch. I paid £429 for a 8GB refurbished one.

    So. Much. Pain.
  34. morgy19's avatar
    Ordered thanks
  35. oscar72's avatar
How does the graphics on this compare to GTX 1050 or GTX1660 or Quadro T1000?
    plewis00's avatar
Weaker than all of those as it’s integrated. Probably looking at GT 1030 or MX 450 level of performance. It’s not a gaming system.
  36. ArchiChris's avatar
Definitely interested. Does anyone know if it is possible to expand the storage beyond 1tb?, Thanks
  37. JollyCoOperation's avatar
    Any good for gaming?
  38. borozu's avatar
Is RAM soldered to the board? Any expansion possible?
    plewis00's avatar
    Soldered and not upgradable.
  39. painfully_slow's avatar
