It feels just like a mountain bike should, a bike that inspires confidence when riding off-road, over rough ground and when tackling trail obstacles. This is a real mountain bike and a proven performer, but don’t just take our word for it, the Nucleus is a multi award-winner that has been voted £500 Hardtail of the Year four times in a row by MBR Magazine.

Riding your first mountain bike requires full trust in the equipment. As the trail twists and turns, rises and falls, you need to feel in complete control. The tried and tested geometry of the Nucleus has reassuring stability and agility that keeps your body relaxed and your smile wide. To match, the bike arrives equipped with high-quality, durable components.

The components include Clarks M2 hydraulic disc brakes that are responsive no matter the conditions, a terrain-smoothing SR Suntour XCR32 Boost Air air-sprung suspension fork and the wide range Shimano Deore drivetrain to ensure the gear shifting is fast and light. With an award-winning aluminium frame at its core, this bundle raises the stakes adding a Brand-X Ascend Dropper Seat Post (fully fitted) for on-the-fly saddle height adjustments, helping you always find the right position on the bike and grippy Nukeproof Neutron EVO Pedals that'll keep your feet firmly planted in place. Key upgrades that'll help grow your confidence on the bike and keep your mountain biking skills rolling forward.

Your first mountain bike should arm you with everything required to enjoy this sport. To set you on your way to unlocking the excitement of riding trails. The Nucleus is not off-the-shelf, it’s tailored specifically for the needs of a new mountain biker.

I had just been about to bite on the VR.

Is an extra £100 worth it for the VRS?
    Steve_Backshall's avatar
The VRS is definitely worth the extra £100 IMO. The VR has a crappy Box groupset and a non thru axle fork which really limits your upgrade options unless you want to respoke your front wheel.

I paid £599.99 for the 29 VRS a couple of months ago for my partner and it's great for the money. This really is a bargain given you get a dropper with it which is pretty much everyone's first upgrade anyway.

The only thing with this one is that it's for the 27.5 inch wheel version which wouldn't be my preference but the 27.5 vs 29 debate has been going on since the dawn of time.

Shocking customer service from CRC. 1 week to answer a different question than the one I asked. I have been waiting for this bike for 3 weeks.

Thanks! Finally bit the bullet. Sadly my work's cycle to work scheme exclude quite a few places such as CRC and Wiggle etc. So no tax relief for me.
But Top cash back is 2% and Blue light gives 5% off. So took mine down to £569.99 and then £558.61 after cash back. Seemed very reasonable, so I took it.

If anyone knows a decent £500 ish bike for the Mrs, that's not from any of the below places, please let me know. I will slap hers on C2W instead. She's fairly tall 5ft10, so wouldn't suit some bikes aimed at females. Doesn't need full suspension, it wouldn't be great at that price range anyway.

Your welcome buddy , I actually bought it yesterday for £639-99 using the discount code and checked again this morning and it went down a further £50 , crc were great , refunded me the £50 difference and took another £10 off as a gesture of good will so all in all I am happy enough , seems like allot of bike for the buck

Ordered, thanks mate. Was probably going to order anyway but an extra £50 off pushed me over the edge.

Okay Top Cash Back just tracked it at 5%. So even better value!

Means the New total for TCB and BLC discount will be £541.49. Hope this helps someone
    lucas4's avatar
Has TCB still tracked OK? As the BLC voucher should void the 5%, I believe.

Heat. I do not need one but........

This is a very good deal for a very nice bike indeed. Sub-£600 for a good quality all-rounder is a bargain.

Thanks for posting. I am hoping it doesn't sell out before my cycle to work voucher comes through.

I had a 2021 Nucleus VR 29 but I found the 29" a wheel a bit cumbersome so the 27" may be better.

Still great price. Bought my budget bizango and its grown with me by upgrading parts as I get better. I thought it would be a starter bike but I am still very satisfied with it. This bike offers that same experience (edited)

Damn, my cycle2work scheme ended 2 weeks ago. I'd have gone for this in a flash if it was still on.

I have the 2021 29" VRS and it is a great bike. It needs better breaks as the Clarks breaks are terrible and my tyres where not tubeless ready but not sure if these are or not. I also had to buy a hope seat post clamp thingy as the original failed but then that added a bit of colour so win win but this point is mute due to the dropper.

I had a 2020 vrx model. Absolute beast for the money. You will struggle to find a better bike for this money.

The 29 looks OK but not sure if thru axle. Anyone know the difference between Shimano Deore M5120 10-Speed, Shadow Plus, clutch and Shimano M4100? Thanks

Shimano Deore M5100 and M4100 derailleur options

There are more rear derailleur options for M5100 and M4100 that are best broken down by the individual models.

The RD-M4120-SGS and RD-M5120-SGS rear derailleurs are compatible with both 11- and 10-speed cassettes.

The cable pull ratio between 11- and 10-speed Shimano mountain bike groupsets is very similar, meaning that, according to Shimano either of these derailleurs will “work perfectly as an upgrade option for existing shifters on 10- and 11-speed bikes”.

Very temped by this, I'm 5ft 8in, assume the M will be the right size for me, also see they do 27" and 29" wheels, any guidance on which would be better.

Also see Halfords have a deal on the Voodoo Bizango, how does that compare to this one.
    silebyboy's avatar
I’d certainly go for the medium if I were you. Wheel size is down to personal preference but I’ve been very happy with 27.5” myself. Probably worth watching a few YouTube videos comparing the two and you can decide yourself.
Personally I’d go for this over the Bizango as it’s very good value for the money and includes a dropper post and decent set of pedals. The Bizango has a slightly better driver train and brakes by the sounds of it but not by much so the money you save plus the inclusion of a dropper make this one a winner in my book.

Is this QR or thru bolt please? Thinking of upgrades at a later date. Thru bolt is better. Thanks.
    silebyboy's avatar
Thru axle on the front and QR on the back.

If this is still around next month, I think it's worth upgrading from my modded Specialized HardRock?

It's an older 26" but with a Rock Shox fork, Shimano hydraulics and 1x10 zee setup. Hopefully fetch a couple of hundred quid second hand?
  20. Bobs_Burgers's avatar
Just received mine this morning. The dropper post is already fitted and the original seat post is in the packaging for the dropper. Come with the original pedals aswell as a basic multi tool and a pedal spanner. Nike proof pedals in deprecate box. Thanks OP

Mine arrived today to. I though it was a nice touch adding the original parts in there. I guess that had no reason to keep them. But still nice to have a back up
