A Really nice touch

Supermarket chain joins with Pampers to supply product that had only been previously available in hospitals or from healthcare providers

Supermarket chain Asda is to offer free nappies for all premature babies from its in-store pharmacies in a partnership with Pampers. The partnership is a first for a UK retailer, with nappies for babies born pre-term previously only being available in hospitals or from healthcare providers.

Parents can pick the nappies up from 254 in-store pharmacies. Around one in 13 babies are born pre-term, with 60,000 babies each year requiring specialist care and smaller size nappies. Pampers' Preemie Protection Nappies are its smallest nappy — up to three times smaller than a regular new-born nappy. They come in sizes for babies weighing less than 1.1lb up to 4lb.

The nappies have been designed in collaboration with neonatal nurses for delicate skin and intend to minimise disruption and irritation during nappy changing. They have end-to-end absorbency to prevent leakage and the nappy liner pulls wetness and runny mess away from the baby’s skin

aisal Tuddy, Asda’s Superintendent Pharmacist, said: “By offering these nappies free to new parents from our 254 Asda pharmacies, those early weeks with a premature baby are made slightly easier. Within our in-store pharmacies, customers can also speak to trained professionals for healthcare advice relating to baby and parent.”

Nicole Hallak, Brand Director, Pampers UK & Ireland added: “This partnership allows all UK parents to access quality nappies with our trusted Pampers promise for their precious little ones.”

<looking at the responses, no one understood the point. People always have short-term memory.>

With retail giants, you gotta see beyond this small goodwill to know the real reason.
Why only premature babies? Why not they give to all new born?

Disclaimer: Don't need diapers. My kids are all grown now. (edited)

"Why do a certain vulnerable group get something and not everybody?"

8% of babies are premature. To cover all babies would be 12.5x the cost.

Perhaps sound a question out in your head before you say it to others

As the parent of a child who was very premature born at 26 weeks and weighed 2lbs many years ago, this is a great offer from Asda.

    Voted hot.

I took advantage of this offer recently, as my baby was born 9 week prem, weighing 3lb. Nappies that size just aren't readily available in shops so this really helped us at what was already a tough time, and gave us one less problem to delay with.

Our LO was 3 months premature and used the free Pampers nappies from the hospital. Really grateful to Pampers and cemented my loyalty to them. Good on Asda too. Heat and hugs to all the preemie parents.

How do you redeem the offer? How do you prove your infant is premature?
