    What is mesh
    sebag's avatar
Mesh allows you to create a network with multiple access points working as one, something like wifi extenders but smarter

    Does this support openvpn?

Stock Linksys firmware does not support openvpn.

If you install OpenWrt. Maximum openvpn speed is 25 Mbps from the IPQ4019 SoC to ethernet LAN. Speed will be a bit slower to wifi.

OpenVPN speeds on OpenWrt graph (edited)

I have this very router !
Stock firmware is very limited, so it now runs openwrt.
Bit of a faff if you're non technical , but there's a lot of YouTube vids, and online help should you need it.
The options in openwrt are lightyears ahead of the out of the box experience .
Simple things like setting DNS is now available , better still DOH

    Are you using 22.03.2?

It will probably be a belkin/Foxconn rebadge. I wouldn't touch with a bargepole unless the PSU is appealing to you.

Thanks, bought one, gonna run Openwrt on it.

I think what you meant to put was this doesn’t include a modem?

Most don’t as we are moving away from VDSL.

Seems like a LOT of router for the money. But my router's fine. But this is so cheap. Bloody HUKD!

Not a mesh router according to Linksys website.

I think this model can't do mesh network. MR8300 is a mesh router, but this EA8300 isn't.

    However, I may be wrong.

The Linksys EA8300 is a MU-MIMO Tri-Band WiFi router, which has one 2.4GHz and two 5GHz WiFi Interfaces, making it an interesting choice for wireless backhaul or repeater applications.

It would be strange for a router that has a dedicated 5GHz wireless interface for backhaul or repeater to not be capable of mesh?

do these just replace your bt/sky router with better performance and if so is it just a case of swapping them out?
    ssjinzo's avatar
This is what I was thinking my router is becoming faulty now no Internet even if connected via a strong WiFi. I have to restart router every few days. This has a modem and router?

Thanks. Got one for a family member as they are on the TalkTalk router which isn't the best. They get 330Mbps down so this should do fine.

Any good option for replace now TV router?
    AndyRoyd's avatar
Observation for minimum requirement for Now direct replacement:
solution will require modem with MER / option 61 capability.
