It’s possible to get the voucher.

We’ve been given a fix to sort at store level if the customer asks for a voucher, takes 30 seconds max.

"If all conditions are met, but a prize coupon doesn’t print at the Catalina printer, you’ll need to manually create a coupon by following the steps below:
o Select PLU group, followed by ‘Fuel Rewards group’
o Select ‘Fuel Rewards’ and then choose ‘Prize draw entry’. Ensure the nectar card is scanned first”

If you check the App there are 3 different ways to win, one which Chanchi has posted, one which you have to manually enter on the app by clicking the tab and one, if I'm reading this right, if you swipe your N card between today (27/01) and 04/02

Good to see MSE picked this up.

Update: On the advice of Nectar CS I went back to Sainsburys today. They still couldn't provide a voucher. This was a deliberate scam, not a technical error. (edited)

Not as good as Swipe & Win, but great promo nonetheless!

We will hold off all our shopping until next Saturday and will split it in £20 receipts.

The tills will be busy by many customers doing this too.

Just wanted to confirm in store Customer services can print these if it fails to print for you following ’s instructions above.

My store's customer services team didn't know how to do it, but I gave them the details of where to go on the computer system to find it and he was able to print... although I only got 50 points so 100% wasn't worth the return trip, but I wanted to test and report back! (edited)

Just been on a nectar app chat about this as I also got nothing from 2 shops. They said they're aware of a technical error and will add on points within 28 days. Didn't say how many points

Sainsburys Nectar have finally removed this promo (scam) from the app.

I think a lot of people are probably pretty much done with Sainsburys Nectar after this mess. Not their first misleading promo either.

Sainsburys head office in Holborn, London also failed to communicate to staff in stores about this. (edited)

No chance I'm going back to the store to resolve, ridiculous if they think that is a reasonable resolution. Feels they need to give a blanket nectar point compensation to everyone who has missed out on a coupon so far today, and scrap the promotion and re-run it another week when they sort themselves out.
  9. Megamart's avatar
Ts & Cs suggest the bonus points are awarded on a physical coupon. Is that right?

Usually use SmartShop but the coupon printers at the checkout terminal hardly ever work (guess they are out of paper but nobody checks them). Don't want to have to queue to use a manual checkout.
    FindMeInBrazil's avatar
Same, nothing more annoying than hearing the coupon printer print and nothing coming out!

Try and remember to look at the printer before picking which one you will use for your smart shop, there should be a constant green light, if they are flashing, red, beeping, or off avoid it or call the staff over to fix it before you begin.

I think the McDonald's monopoly prize scam was better myself

Code rule 8.25 states that “Participants in instant-win promotions must get their winnings at once or must know immediately what they have won and how to claim without delay, cost or administrative barriers. Instant-win tickets, tokens or numbers must be awarded on a fair and random basis and verification must take the form of an independently audited statement that all prizes have been distributed, or made available for distribution, in that manner.”

    asa.org.uk/advice-online/promotional-marketing-instant-wins.html

All those boxes have been ticked lol

The staff were also informing customers in our store and others... It was random and you should keep trying even when it was not working!

Sounds like all the big prizes were all distributed out to staff and friends after 7pm when it seemed to be quietly fixed.

Another one with no voucher today.

This is why you shouldn't vote hot until the deal is active. Look at the heat, making you think this is great, and yet the deal isn't actually working. :/

I want in last night about 8.30pm and spent about £24. Which was about £5 or £6 than I really needed to but thought I would give their points lottery a try. I wasn't aware until reading comments on here last night that the usually pointless printer that constantly gets jammed or out of paper was responsible for distributing any potential winnings, however the self service checkout I chose I always make sure it has a green light and no alarm noises on the printer just in case it spits out a money off or bonus points voucher on the odd occasion. I scanned my shopping then my nectar card through the app and paid. I heard the printer burst into life supposedly printing ten to the dozen by the sound of it, sadly nothing came out at all. It attempted to print 5 different vouchers/coupons/pointless product information. I thought they may be jammed inside so called a colleague over and he opened it. There was just a screwed up mess inside and all were blank where the print head hadn't managed to print on the paper inside. He said that he can replace the paper but cannot make it reprint now so whatever it tried to print out is now lost and it is simply bad luck on my part. I'm absolutely livid with Sainsburys as these printers never seem to work these days and when they do its only to print out pointless product information rather than any useful coupons or vouchers. I'm writing to Sainsburys today and if I don't get anywhere then me and Sainsburys are done for good. I've been going off them for a while now and this may well be the last straw. It's not the fact I'm desperate for nectar points it's the principle that their promotions are so poorly run these days and reading this thread it looks like I'm not the only one that has been denied winnings through this farce of a promotion/lottery.

So in 2017 for comparison over 4 days.
For those that need it, here is an official list of Sainburys Nectar Swipe and Win for October 2017:

    – 200 Nectar Points guaranteed with each swipe
    – 823,600 prizes of 500 Nectar points
    – 549,070 prizes of 1000 Nectar points
    – 137,260 prizes of 2000 Nectar points
    – 137,260 prizes of 5000 Nectar points

    and now in 2023
50 points – unlimited amount of coupons available
100 points – unlimited amount of coupons available
500 points – maximum of 25,000 coupons available
1,000 points – maximum of 45,000 coupons available
2,000 points – maximum of 73,000 coupons available
3,000 points – maximum of 73,000 coupons available
5,000 points – maximum of 64,000 coupons available

So number of 500 point wins is down 97%. Albeit above figures were for 4 days.
1000 points down 92%. The chances for 2k, 3k and 5k considering only 1 day are slightly better.

The problem is most prizes will probably be 50 or 100 points. So maybe 106 top prizes in each catergory at each store spread over 12 or so hours. So 30-40 people an hour. This assumes everyone tries to spend in batches of £20. Before a lot of prizes might of been won on fuel. Plus many people taking a £60 shop and taking 6 vouchers.

I fear most will end up with 50-100 points. At which point you might of bought stuff cheaper elsewhere, Of course enough prizes to keep many happy if they do win. I have no strategy to win here. Hopefully vouchers are not determined by how much you normally spend.

Good luck everyone for tomorrow if you fancy fighting off the crowds,

Maybe I didn't register properly. Hmmm

Got 460 free points anyway from buying products on app.. Plus clothing 70% off. Plus my branded popcorn at 95p. 5% off with pre paid voucher I use too. So was doing okay. Just would of been nice to test system. (edited)

Not sure even the staff know what is going, Winchester Sainsbury’s have none of their coupon machines working, they think the voucher appears in the app, but after 4 hours still no voucher. All a bit of a mess by the look of things

No voucher for me either. DM'd them on twitter with my receipt nectar number & the response was "Great thanks, I've raised this for you now. I'll let you know once we hear back on this."
  30. Savvy_Sister's avatar
I have had a nightmare trying to add these points to my nectar card at the SS till, there may be a limit for how many you can do at 1 time, and each 1 had to authorised, 1 of my 5000 points didn't get added, so I had to go to customer services for them to manually add it, initially they didn't want to add it but after pleading with them they did, because they thought it was already added, So if you have a number of coupons to add i suggest you go to customer services or to a manned till and check your receipt carefully before leaving the store. I can't really complain as I spent £80 and got £65 back, and the £65 is now on my nectar card.
    Savvy_Sister's avatar
I have always added them to my card because I don't always remember to use the vouchers, I think you can add a maximum of 3 at the SS till in one transaction, I am not sure if it is the same at a manned till, and unfortunately the staff didn't know either, but in future even if I only have 1 voucher I am going to a manned till or customer services.
  31. gummby's avatar

5000 points for me about 30 minutes ago at smart shop checkout. Person in front got 2000 points. I made sure to use the same checkout!
    greatnameuk's avatar
not really good for all the people who did not get anything. will be avoiding sainsburys in future. (edited)
  34. greatnameuk's avatar
It would of been nice if Sainsbury's admits to the problem and emails and explains to everyone what happened.
But instead they are saying nothing and pretending like nothing happened, bit like they did on the day itself when the staff in store knew nothing even about the promotion.
Sainsbury's were then passing the buck, telling everyone to go back to store again, where they (still) knew nothing.

Publicise it. get millions extra spending people into your store and then don't bother with the promotion, waste people's time and gain from it. Then pretend it never happened. Any other organisation they would be investigated for fraud! Hmmm (edited)

Glad I checked here. I too didn’t get a voucher this morning. Double checked T’s & C’s and EVERYONE gets a voucher printed at the checkout (I used a manned till) there and then.

WOW!!! Lucky you. What time did you went to Sainsburys? Did you use a self service till? Earlier shoppers didn't get any coupons.
  37. gummby's avatar
They have just raised a lot of prices so they can afford to do this. £20 double the old swipe and win. I can't see myself doing this lots of times. Maybe once? Best i got before was 2000 points. I don't think it went as low as 50 points before. If I only got 50 points that would be very annoying.

Last year they were giving away £3 on the tills just because they could. You also got free products if you were the number 1 buyer.

The Nectar prices have got worse in new year with prices on the app up in most cases. My popcorn is now £1.26 vs 95p last year.

The risk is that you buy something as a one off to reach £20 and it takes over your Nectar price app and free points offer. Made this mistake on a 12 pack of 500ml water. Now I get free points and Nectar prices on something I will never buy again.

My other pet peeve is their Aldi price match. The prices actually seem to go up when they do this now.
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
To be fair, prices are going up everywhere at the moment, even Aldi.

Yes, this isn't promo's not as generous as the last. They've doubled the spend to £20, and halved the minimum win from 100 to 50 points. And no splitting petrol purchases into £10 transactions either.

I'm with you on the annoying Nectar offers repeating every week for something I'll never buy again.
I try to use my wife's card for one-off purchases. She made the mistake of using her card when she was shopping with a vegan friend, now she gets 10 random vegan products on her Nectar offers every week. I've tried to "re-train" their algorithms by buying fresh meat and ready meals, but it won't stop giving the vegan offers!

Also, beware of the "price lock" padlock. The price isn't "locked".
All it means, if the price goes up, it won't go up again for another 8 weeks. I noticed my regular deodorant went up 50p, despite the padlock, and it still has a padlock on the new price.
