Would I notice the speed difference between this and the older 4k stick? (edited)

The CPU performance of these devices makes a great deal of difference to the speed it loads and how fast apps load.

But it is the GPU performance that really sets certain devices apart when you are streaming. The 4K Max is a fantastic device and miles better than the regular 4K. This doesn't just apply to 4K content but all video streaming.

The new Fire Cube is an awesome device, but the 4K Max is pound for pound the best you can get.

What streaming apps offer 4K other then Netflix & Prime?
    chrismaherwit's avatar
Disney has the best picture I'd say.

im surprised people still use kodi.

everytime i have setup iptv on peoples firesticks, the first thing that has to be removed is usually kodi as it is bogging down the system and takes over all the storage. Most of the people installing kodi that i meet, have no clue what they are doing with it.

Was about to buy one a few days ago but knew they'd all be reduced today since Amazon reduces them today every year so I waited and I was right lol. But of course this is even £5 less than Amazon with the voucher

I'd rather buy a Google TV device but afaik there's no Google TV device that comes close to this for this price right? There's not much of a selection at all really. Everyone always says just get a shield but those are like £120 on sale for the basic one and are around 3.5 years old now. Sure it's over twice as fast but it just doesn't seem worth it for people who want it just as a good media player. Where's the good cheap Google TV boxes/sticks at? There's only really the chromecast which is super laggy and actually not great specs even just as a media player(apps take ages), theres Xiaomi boxes which costs more(£60) but has slower/similar specs to the fire 4k max.

Maybe I can just get a fire sitck and put the google tv launcher on it if possible. I'd just rather have the 1 interface on all 3 tvs because my parents suck with tech

I’ve been looking at Roku stick 4k which has dropped from £50 to £40 at Curry’s but you just don’t get as much for your money.

    Has airplay but not Bluetooth.
No atmos but has pass through (that’s a minefield I can’t get my head around)
Less RAM but seems a better interface.

Firestick seems to be best bang for buck

Surprisingly nobody's mentioned using a VPN when viewing media via Kodi - is this no longer needed ? On a related point some talk elsewhere that since a recent upgrade NordVpn is causing all sorts of freezing and buffering conflicts with both Kodi Matrix and the latest Kodi Nexus v20 in addition to constant login problems for what was a highly rated VPN.

    Proton vpn is free

Have yo say the amazon fire stick is a complete waste of money. Hopelessy clunky and and un-user firendly compared to the Roku. Had a couple in the past but wouldn't touch with a barge pole now.
    doozeruk's avatar
Yeah if anyone hasn't tried one in a few years the newer firesticks work very well compared to the older ones

Can you install Kodi on this like you can with those numerous £30 Android boxes they sell on Amazon ?
    Serpico73's avatar
You can install what you want with the Downloader app. I use Stremio as it's a great app for TV/Film

Surprised how these are somehow more expensive than when I bought mine over a year ago for £36.99 direct from Amazon.
    Tarquin8484's avatar
    Inflation.

This one can have picture in picture with ring door bell and can have little video of camera on tv.

Got mine for £19.45 for Argos the other day, Amazon Fire Stick 4K Max! Result!

    How did you manage this

I wonder what difference "40% more powerful" means on a firetv stick. It either plays the media or it doesn't in my opinion. I don't find the 4K stick to be slow or anything, so I wonder if it's worth "upgrading"? I think i've answered my own question haven't i

I have a 4K Stick and i have to say it is so much better than my original stick.
  14. Mrdom's avatar
I had one of these and had constant problems with low storage space, the only thing I'd installed on it was kodi. I replaced it with a cube which is fine but more expensive obviously. I also have kodi set up exactly the same on a regular 4k fire stick with the same 8gb storage which I kept with no problems.

Which iptv do you use? I am struggling to find one that doesn't freeze every 2 minutes. Thanks.

Can't stream 4k limited to 100Gbs. Get an Nvidia Shild for plex instead
    Zool's avatar
The only advantage a shield would have over this is likely better audio support oh and gaming. This 4k max stick will play 4k Dolby vision via Plex without breaking a sweat

    This, or CC Google TV?
    doesitmatter's avatar
Had firestick 4k. Replaced with Google TV CC 4k for convenience of using with other google devices. But started hating it now. Amazon prime videos are way slower to load and sometimes buffer. Now I use TV app instead.
  18. sr_387's avatar
max is the best one well worth it never had any issues all ways fast to load etc

A big plus is being able to plug a memory stick Into these and view large video files from dodgy apps.

    How about this instead: 4k (non max) and 4 x Duracell AA batteries (£1) - £5 code = £35.99?
  21. Knoxen's avatar
Anyone tried the new firecube against the nvidia shield pro? I want to get something that supports the additional audio codecs that my stick doesn't but unsure what's better of the two.
    Bendown's avatar
Got the shield but have considered the cube as an all in one unit. Just do not know if I can deal with the constant adds that amazon are pushing on the home screen
  22. ChristopherDias's avatar
When you add to trolley it is 60 instead of 40, even though it says otherwise on the product page
    Tarquin8484's avatar
Amazon have put it up to £60 too.
