In terms of performance, you can basically expect a very similar one to a new Ryzen 5 5600/ GeForce GTX 3060 config which is around £700.
i7 vs Ryzen
1080 vs 3060

I think this one is still a good value.

Code 3630EXTRA20 will get you to this price.

Not bad for the price. I'd argue that the RTX 3060 is a fair bit ahead of the GTX 1080 and of course support RT which the 1080 doesn't. Still a capable card though, especially at 1080p and with older games. £423.90 for a 512GB SSD. Speaking of which, it's not clear whether it's a m.2 or 2.5" drive, I'm assuming the latter. I wish the page had more detailed specs in general, like it would be nice to know the dimensions, specs of the ports etc.

    Isn't it a 256GB SSD not 512GB ? (edited)

Not sure how to compare graphics card with requirements for Microsoft flight simulator 2020. Does anyone happen to know if it is suitable please?

I would still build new system or buy pre built for a bit more, this one is like 6yo..
    mattyprice4004's avatar
You must be a time traveller - this particular system was released 4 years ago

would this be any good for CAD/Design i.e. autodesk and stuff?
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, it's ideal how it's setup with a fairly decent GPU and CPU with lots of RAM.

Why does it say 1080 mobile? That can't be right can it?
    sisqoboy's avatar

Oh, yeah it say mobile... ;/ I will change the link to the correct one at the comparison.

If anyone is interested, if you watch a teardown on this system, it does appear to have a standard mATX motherboard (no weird front USB ports mounted on it and normal power connector) so you can, in theory re-case it and the PSU also appears to have normal connections and screw holes so you should also be able to replace that with another if you wanted. The CPU cooler looks low-profile and blows air away from the GPU too. Really does look like a fairly decent machine for the money.
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
You should be able to put a 9th gen intel in it

How would this run on a 4k monitor?

And what gaming could I manage?

    Thanks!
    fishmaster's avatar
It will display a 2D 4K image and it will also render graphics/gaming graphics at 4K. It definitely won't play all games at 4K but it would play some. If you want to get a clue you can try youtube so you could try COD 2 4k GTX 1080 and you get videos such as this (you might get some that are 1080p because of the name of the GPU, so add enough keywords to find the right video), which will give you an idea of how well the game will run. 60 fps is a comfortable framerate >

Here's another example using the same CPU + GPU as in this deal and 4K resolution, and fps as you can expect on a modern AAA title is a bit low at around 35-40 fps, but you can drop the resolution to 1440p or 1080p in the settings >

    • Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T)
    • No LAN

    How does this work?
    muniphobia's avatar
It will have Gigabit ethernet built into the motherboard, the No LAN will be because it wasn't specced with a second ethernet connection. I once had to order a replacement PC from Dell and as I didn't have time and was rusing through the Dell site I accidently ordered it with a second network card...

Nice looking system and doubt anyone will be able to build something much faster for less. Between this and the other I would stretch for the extra for the 2080 with 64GB RAM and 9th Gen though, I think it’s worth it - that said, neither are bad.
    alien_'s avatar
Most users won't benefit from that amount of memory, but definitely no one needs 64GB RAM for Chrome. I'm absolutely abusing the tabs, having hundreds open along with multiple productivity apps and still sitting way under 32GB usage. Only times I'm maxing out 64GB is when I do some expectionally heavy 3D task, but that's way beyond what a normal usuer would throw at their PC.

Quick calculation and looking at CEX prices, this is minimum £500+ so at this price it’s 🔥
    errqr8's avatar
how much are you valuing a mobile 1080 at?
  12. MasterFunk73's avatar
This arrived today, it's a full GTX 1080, not a mobile version. Pretty cool!
  13. chicaneuk's avatar
Not a bad price. I had a same gen precision tower for my work machine pre pandemic and it was no slouch!
  14. vhero's avatar
That 1080 will suffocate in that case as no airflow so won't run as well as it should. Might be worth investing in a case too for this. Unless it's got that stupid dell security on the board which beeps constantly if removed from case
    happymanuk's avatar
The 1080 is the mobile version rather than the desktop if that makes a difference.

what a bargain! Especially when you consider 1080's are going for over £200 second hand still.

I sold my 1070ti for £429 on ebay during the mining craze, more than I paid for it back in the day haha

Dont get too excited guys, it's probably around 6 years old, and many dell's of this style had weird crippled video cards, and power supplies rated to the existing components with no real leeway for upgrades.
Now that bitcoin/altcoins have crashed, there's a lot more choice in the gfx market.

Not saying it's not a capable system though.
    plewis00's avatar
You could have looked and found it's a 3-4 year old system and the components are mostly standard. They never had 'weird crippled video cards', the silicon was the same, occasionally you had a budget/basic cooler, the PSU is also fine. Minus the graphics card, the rest of the system is still worth a fair bit and will perform better than anything else in the same price range.

Looks decent to me but not really into this stuff!

Can I ask if has an opinion on this setup?
As a basic windows home machine for a family member looking to do basic stuff for a few years.

Only concern is I cant add wifi into the package.
    tjc2005's avatar
So just add a WiFi USB stick or pci. This is great value for this system.

1080 is a great little card still. This PC be a good present for a kid to tinker around with.
  20. dwl99's avatar
Anyone know if this will take a 4th gen nvme? And how many pci slots it has?

    EDIT it appears to have
    a Full Height PCIe x16
    b PCI x1
c Two Full Height PCIe x4

And an M.2 connector - so unless it's a hybrid slot I assume it won't work with an nvme drive? (edited)
    louiselouise's avatar
I'm wondering this too, as I'd like to have a boot drive and another for storage (I bought the i7 9700 / RTX 2080 version, posted just before this). There's a few good 1TB NVMe deals at the moment.

Really nice unit, except the M.2 drive is a little slow, so decided to upgrade to the WD Black 1TB, hope it works. hotukdeals.com/dea…297
