I usually find these 3 months Xbox Live codes, when on offer, the most efficient way to top up my game pass ultimate sub (without using a VPN). I'm pretty sure this is the cheapest it has been for a while, although I think lthey were as cheap as £5.99 sometime last year.

Each 3 months code converts to 50 days of game pass ultimate (£17.98 for 3.3 months of game pass ultimate which I think is usually a few £s cheaper then just buying game pass codes).

It becomes less efficient for longer length Xbox Live codes, but I just tried it now and did manage to get 100 days added by redeeming 2 separate 3-month codes; redeeming a 6 month code only gives 79 days.
Just for reference the conversion table from Microsoft is:

Token says…. You get…

1 month of Gold 20 days of Ultimate

3 months of Gold 50 days of Ultimate (1+ month)

6 months of Gold 79 days of Ultimate (2+ months)

12 months of Gold 4 months of Ultimate

Hope this is helpful to someone else too

What’s the most cost effective way to proceed if your Xbox live lapsed ages ago? I fancy getting into pc gaming again but I don’t want to be spending loads on individual games

The Xbox Live Gold to Ultimate trick is the way to go if you currently don't subscribe to anything, even if you're gonna be using it on PC only. Note that it will require a fair bit of money upfront but it will sort you out for the next 3 years.

Here's what to do, make sure you follow the steps exactly:

    1. Buy 3 years of Xbox Live Gold (3 x 12month Xbox Live Gold codes can be had on CDKeys for a total of £113)
    2. Redeem all 3 of the codes onto your Xbox Live account (ensure this is done BEFORE step 4!)
    3. Now buy 1 month of Game Pass Ultimate (again, this can be had on CDKeys for £3.29)
    4. Redeem this final code onto your Xbox Live account, when you do so, the account will recognise that you already subscribe to Xbox Live Gold and will offer to convert that into an equal length of Game Pass Ultimate at no additional cost, agree to this offer, and voila. You now have 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate with access to hundreds of titles ready to be installed and play, with over a dozen more titles being added to the library every month so you'll never run out of new titles to try out

(I am aware that you can do the above using foreign subscriptions from Turkey or Argentina to save even more money, but that carries a small risk of getting your account banned, so I do not feel comfortable suggesting that to users in case the ban hammer falls on them and they blame me for it) (edited)

Can these be stacked to an existing sub?

For the best long term subscription deals, you should always let your subscription expire. Even without a VPN, this is the cheapest method. (edited)

I used to buy 12 or 24 month Live Gold codes then do the convert to GPU for the entire duration trick by buying one month of GPU. But these days it's easier to just buy a few one month GPU codes from Gamivo for about £1.50 each. They don't stack, but it's easy to just let them run out and then put the new code in each month. They're global or EU codes too, so you don't even have to use a VPN. Either way, it's ridiculous value when you consider how much PS Plus Extra or Premium costs, and what you get with that.

I miss when these used to go for ~£4. Used to buy multiple to stack my GPU sub up to the maximum 36 months. Not topping up at this price though, think I'll wait for mine to expire and then see what's the best option at that time, whether it's the 1 month codes or the Xbox Live Gold --> GPU trick to have me sorted for the next 3 years (edited)

Mine was due to run out mid November, that's me sorted up till mid February next year. Might give it a day or two and order another couple to add.

Will this convert to 3 months if I don’t have GPU?

You used to be able to stack Gold subscriptions and convert all of it into GPU for £1 previously. However, I don't know if it still works that way... they still mention the £1 upgrade (xbox.com/en-…ade), but hopefully someone who has tried it more recently can confirm.

On that note though, and if you don't already have GPU, you're probably better off purchasing non-stackable 1-month GPU codes, waiting to expire and then repeating as others have suggested. I haven't tried this so not sure if there is a limit to how many of these non-stackable codes you can use on same account?

These 3-month Gold codes are probably only useful if you have a long-term GPU subscription that you want to top-up to last a bit longer. I like to keep it topped up for at least two-years for relatively cheap if I can... I'm always a bit worried to wait until it expires just in case prices change (or they no longer offer the 1-month codes) by then!

i haven't used game pass before. but was thinking about picking up the Xbox PC gamepass.
does this work for PC or is it console only? i'm not sure because MS are quite devoted to being able to play everywhere.

Edit: i think this is just for the xbox console (edited)

This is just for console, but when you convert to GPU it is for both PC and console.
