Update 1
Back at £418.99 again using the same code as before - SAVE30
Retailers are extending their return policies for Christmas: Full List of Shops Extending Returns Policies for Christmas

Dell have dropped the price on this 14" Inspiron laptop down to £448.99, which isn't too bad, BUT there' now a code to whip another £30 off that price. Storage wise, 512GB NVMe is decent for most people, although you may want to upgrade the RAM later down the line if you find yourself hitting limits at 8GB. It has 2 RAM slots, so that shouldn't be an issue here.

The panel here is WVA, which is obviously a step up from TN and offers better viewing angles overall.

So what ram should I buy to upgrade to 16GB and how do you install/add it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    suhel_uddin's avatar
This memory should work, I am going to order this for this laptop that I got a, few days ago. Available from Amazon for under £20. Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Portable Memory CT8G4SFRA32A. Also YouTube link here on how to add RAM.

Does anyone know if you can upgrade the ssd on this & how easy / hard is it to add more ram?
    SmashingK's avatar
This appears to be a similar model - ifixit.com/Gui…160

Looking at the image of the inside you can see where you can upgrade:
    Arrow - Extra RAM slot
Green - appears to be existing M.2 SSD
Red - looks like extra M.2 SSD slot

Edit: This is listed with 54Wh battery which doesn't have the extra SSD slot due to larger battery so is more like the one in this video:

I have had this laptop since last evening now, and am really happy with the purchase so far. The main thing I was worried about were the hinges, and from initial inspections I am satisfied and they feel sturdy. The metal chassis is a plus too. Keyboard is comfy to type on, as an everyday joe at least. Backlight works well in day and night, and nice that there is no light bleed from the keys. It also auto-switches off if the keyboard isn't used which is nice. The screen has good colours, and I think there is some software tweaking happening because the colours adjust to what I'm watching or reading especially in full screen. After setup the fan was audible, and is now whisper quiet even after use thankfully. Probably due to initial background updates and setting up (there was a BIOS update). What else... I am happy with the sound and it's loud with some bass, shame it is downward firing but the listening experience isn't impeded much at all. This doesn't come with a finger print reader just to confirm. Although there is a play/pause hotkey, there is no track skip buttons which I will miss.
Tips: don't forget to open and setup MyDell and Support Assist apps to register warranty and update system drivers.

If any questions feel free to comment and I'll do my best to respond.

EDIT: storage out of the box is 459GB (edited)

What s the trackpad like when using it for left and right click? Is it difficult because there are no designated left/right click buttons?

Nice deal, but it's a shame some laptops still need a separate type of charging connector instead of standardising to USB C for charging.
    Chz's avatar
The power jack is a bit of a waste of space, but it does support Power Delivery over the USB-C port.
  6. Smoggy1970's avatar
Decent processor and would be boosted with another 8GB of RAM.
    Marcel's avatar
It's a Zen2 processor, basically a 4800u with a slightly higher boost speed and higher power usage.
  7. blueyes74's avatar
Got it down to £401 with NHS discount and there's 6% TCB
    black.bull's avatar
    Also works with student discount

What am I missing here? Seems pretty average specs, but huge heat
    DealHunterChaos's avatar
It's a Dell and has a Ryzen 7 processor ( more cpmparable to an i7 than an i5). Importantly you can add a £20 stick of RAM to upgrade it to 16GB. Lots of other laptops from Lenovo etc you can't upgrade the RAM.
  9. DealHunterChaos's avatar
Mine arrived yesterday and I upgraded the RAM this evening. It took about 15 minutes and cost £19.99 on Amazon.

Anyone know the max ram this would take ?
    suhel_uddin's avatar
I believe it is 2 x 16gb, so 32gb ram in total according to the manual

    Thanks

Laptop arrived yesterday, updates all done.

Great machine for the price. Quality feels good and is a good size. Have ordered 8gb RAM that is coming today.

Also, if anyone doesn't want an online account to be used with Windows 11, you can set up a new user as a local account, make it an admin account, log into that new account and delete the old online account. Full guide here: digitaltrends.com/com…11/ (edited)

Does anyone have any NHS discount codes that might work on this? or give 10% off? Would be grateful if you could DM me the code. I'm after the i7 version of it.

    HEat added to deal.
    markyo007's avatar
Do you work for the NHS?
  15. airey's avatar
Cheers for this. Guess it's pretty straight forward to add the extra stick of RAM is it? Built a couple of PCs about 15 years ago but never opened a laptop up before

I have this laptop but a 15" version and with 16GB of ram, very happy and have owned it for just over a year. The only gripe I have is that I've lost a fair few of the screws which hold the laptop together. So I've bought my GF this laptop so I can steal hers. I can confirm it stacks with NHS / Student discount, and I also added some Dell rewards I had from a previous purchase. Heat!
    alared's avatar
Wouldn`t it be cheaper just to buy new screws?
  18. markyo007's avatar
How much RAM does this support?
    Chz's avatar
Don't know the maximum, but it definitely supports 16GB.
  19. Solidcancer07's avatar
Good deal, can confirm code OP posted stacks with NHS discount OR student discount (4%). Can’t add NHS AND student discount at the same time however

    £401 with bluelight, thank you
    suhel_uddin's avatar
Blue Light must have added Dell recently as it wasn't there on Friday when I ordered. Could have used the extra money saved towards another 8gb of ram
  21. markyo007's avatar
What is everyone’s delivery dates? Mines is saying “get it by June” - might just be a delay in getting them or something
    cat_'s avatar
My order was due to arrive 14 Mar 23, when I didn't I contacted Dell and was told the delay was due to the manufacturing team putting a hold on the order due to a "compliance issue".

I have no idea, was this means - they could not confirm a delivery date, certainly did not mention June ... I don't want to wait another 3 or 4 months (where will tech products be by then?!).

    So I, reluctantly, cancelled order.
  22. suhel_uddin's avatar
Anyone know which ssd you can upgrade the drive with, is it m2 - 2280 or m2 - 2230 & is it pcie 3.0 or 4.0 as looking to upgrade ssd to 1tb

Seting mine up today. Seems a good machine for the money.

Are you going to do a backup? like Acronis or the Dell backup tool?
  28. bee888's avatar
All the reviews I'm seeing say this has a 360 hinge. I assume this one doesn't have this feature as it's not listed om the dell website.

aw thank you so much for replying & sharing the vid.
    I am buying now

Ordered, battery has more or less gone on an old latitude and the Ryzen 7, upgradable ram and 14" size seemed perfect. Be very surprised if anything better comes along and 512gb of storage also seems a bit of a rarity at this price point.
If the TCB pays out then that's the RAM upgrade covered as well and next day delivery to boot!
    marshalex's avatar
From a quick look over this morning (ordered and delivered in less that 24 hrs is pretty impressive in itself) first impressions are good. Nice solid feel to it and a good balance between size/portability (for my use case anyway).
Setup on the cards for later on and additional 8GB ordered (thanks to whoever posted the amazon link) which will arrive tomorrow.
BTW for those not wanting to sign in with a msft account on windows 11 you can simply use a dummy email during setup (a@a.com or the like) with a wrong password and it'll let you go straight to a local account.
  31. markyo007's avatar
Could someone link me the screwdrivers I need to open the laptop? For anyone who has upgraded the RAM, cheers.
    suhel_uddin's avatar
Look for Jackly Precision Screwdriver set, you also need a prying tool to open up case. I've just put 32bg of ram in. Managed to get Crucial 2 x 16gb from ebay for £58. The 2 screws near hinge are fiddly as they have circlips on. You will need your bit locker code once new memory installed. Be careful when prying open, a very small piece of plastic from inside broke off when I was prying it open. Hope that helps (edited)

Dell is probably the best make you can get followed by HP.

I don`t know if anyone has pointed out but when open the laptop sits on the lid at the hinge end.
I also believe the fan actually blows the air up the inside of the screen.

Not for me but a good deal if anyone really needs a new laptop. (edited)
