2 person kayak, everything you need included for 2 people apart from life jackets. I would advise you get some for £20-25 from Decathlon or Amazon.

Intex are the best budget kayaks I have found. These are usually £125-140.

This has just dropped in price, £99 Inc delivery is a bargain. My friend has one and it's great fun going out together on the canals. Although with the weather today you don't need to go that far

Update: This is a slightly more expensive version too which people have also mentioned in chat: amazon.co.uk/Int…GG/

A removable skeg provides exceptional directional movement, while an adjustable, inflatable seat with a backrest is included for comfortable seating. A grab line at each end is provided for your convenience, as well as a cargo net for extra storage, a NMMA certified U.S. Coast Guard I.D., and a repair patch kit.

Note:

If your kayak feels a little soft, it may not be due to a leak. If the kayak was inflated at the end of the day with air at 32°C, this air can cool down to 25°C overnight. If the kayak was inflated at the end of the day with air at 32°C (90°F), this air can cool down to 25°C (77°F) overnight. Cooler air exerts less pressure on the hull from cold air and the hull may feel soft the next morning. If there has been no temperature variation, you should start looking for a leak: - Examine your kayak from a few meters away. Turn it over and examine the exterior carefully.

  • Inflatable I-beam floor for comfort and rigidity
  • Removable skeg for directional stability
  • Includes repair patch
  • Inflated size: 11 ft 6in X 2ft 6in X 1ft 3in
  • Persons capacity: 2
  • Maximum weight capacity: 400 pounds

I have this and the Intex Explorer K2 both brilliant boats and have been used in Canals and Rivers.

Please don't try and use these in the Sea though as there are so many accidents every year with people being dragged out by the current, I struggled with a fairly light current in a local river in Garstang.

Highly recommend using in Canals though, really good fun!

Have lasted 2 years so far, no punctures or other damage...the oars are slightly on the short side so an easy fix is using a broom handle to extend the length of the oars which will save you getting wet legs from water dripping off them.

I'd go with the Explorer it has more of a Canoe feel to it, it's more stable has more storage space under the front and back parts of the boat.

I've used the boat for myself and my wife both about 5ft 8" and you do feel a little cramped but not totally uncomfortable.

As I have both boats we take both out (the two man versions) and simply just inflate and install one of the seats giving you plenty of room!

So with storage the Explorer you can store bags etc under the front and back of the boat where as the Challenger has a netted front and storage in the back too.

Both are fantastic boats, the main difference is that the Challenger feels like a sportier model in the fact it moves quicker in the water and is more agile but the compromise is that it's less stable in the water and has less storage.

The Explorer like I said feels bigger with the inclined front and back of the boat providing more storage options, sits higher off the water giving it more stability.

We prefer the explorer for lazy days on the canal/lake but both are brilliant and you won't be disappointed with either.

Some good YouTube reviews on both boats too, I spent a long time researching both but then ended up getting both as they were quite cheap at the time.

Is the explorer worth the xtra 20 odd quid? Don't know much about these things but want one.

If you can find one on gumtree or ebay for similar money go for a itiwit from decathlon. Will last much longer and much easier to use.

Came here to suggest this - though during the summer at least, they seem to hold prices well.
I kept an eye out for a while and got a 2 seater in winter for £90, really wanted the x100 (drop stitch), but happy with the £90 I paid for the cheaper model.
There's other similar models from different brands that are often a bit cheaper.

I've got the single one early last year, a great purchase! I'd really recommend this for people looking to get into kayaking, it's good fun and then you can spend more in future when you're ready / if needed.

I had a puncture with a different kayak, it's easy to fix, just dry it out and use the right glue.

I also left it overnight with a clamp to hold the bits together and couldn't even see it was fixed the next day.

Also be wary of shallow water with sharp things. Not that common to get a puncture but there's a few different chambers so it won't sink if you get one.

It's a rare hazard but still a possibility on an inflatable.

These were going for up to £300 on ebay during the lockdowns. Both mine were £110 a couple of years ago which was a steal at the time but pre-Covid they had been around £60/70.

Do you need a licence or any other permit to use these in a lake or canal?

Reminds me of the lifeboat rescue program for those using them in the sea

Never use these at Sea...I've seen wayyyy too many accidents with people thinking they're sea worthy then being dragged out to sea.

These are perfect for canals, lakes, slow moving rivers.

I use a variety of apps to check the conditions of whatever waterway I'm sailing before I go out...I know it's all common sense.

Also I'd always recommend a life jacket regardless of where you're using them.
