What's the difference between digital and disc console and which one is better? Sorry if I sound noob. I don't have any PlayStation.
    malnuman's avatar
Get the disc, you can get the games so much cheaper, esp if you don't mind buying them used, I regret getting digital..

Pay the extra and get the disk edition - I have a digital console and find it so restrictive having to buy from the PlayStation Store. New releases are expensive and at least with a disk I can play the game and trade it in when finished to get 50-75% of the cost back. You can use other region stores but its clunky, I've ended up with multiple accounts with games from different regions - with Xbox, they are all in one main account.

Yep. Sell your games folks when you're done with them. Seriously. Even if it's a game you really love and expect you'll revisit, it's still better to sell now while it's still worth some money, and then you can rebuy it later at a heavy discount when you're ready to play it again.

This makes gaming so much more affordable and more justifiable purchasing newer games(though I'm still never spending £59+ on a new title, dont care).

Yep, but it's on the bt shop unfortunately

Lots of digital only haters. What if digital works for some people? Some people may only ever use playstation extra etc and never actually buy a game. I myself have 70 games that i have bought from psn store. It absolutely makes no sense paying more for a disc version. For me. And others. So for some people this will be a good deal, because you can buy a digital only console from a reputable seller and use paypal credit to pay monthly. Which is exactly what I’ve done with this deal after waiting ages for it to come in stock. Cheers to the deal poster. A deal for me and i have bought, and maybe a deal for others. Not everyone, but that’s okay!!

The complaint that some people have is that - at least for first-party games - it's typically cheaper to buy a disc copy of games than digital, after initial launch period.
  5. greg666's avatar
    Is this a joke?
    deleted2808586's avatar
Yes but this joke is 99p under RRP
  6. gallopingbanker's avatar
Genuine question from a PS4 owner…does the PS5 console version that has the disc drive need the game disc to be inserted when playing the game?
    Illusionary's avatar
Yes, if it's been installed from the disc.

Wonder how much commission HUKD are generating by artificially inflating the heat on a non-deal like this?
  8. TCMoneyy's avatar
Never made sense to buy a digital console unless you're really really poor & have to pay for things as you go. Buying digital WILL hurt you in the long run, you pocket more money over time having a physical edition.

    Just as an example;

Hogwarts Legacy PSN Store = £59.99
Hogwarts Legacy eBay disc = £34.99

Modern Warfare 2 PSN Store = £45.49 (on sale )
Lowest eBay buy now = £30.00

Marvel Spider-Man: Miles Morales PSN store = £49.99
Lowest eBay buy now = £17.00
    coolhandan's avatar
There is a thing called ps plus. What do I need a disc drive for?
  9. GrumpyOldGamer's avatar
    Weren't these £349 on release?
    The_Guru's avatar
    That's Sony for you
  10. Wilkin's avatar
Better wait for slim or pro version
    toner84's avatar
Be waiting a while.... And can't see it being a pro , maybe a slim... But when they make the slims, they're never made as well, cheaper parts and that. On the plus side... The design HAS to be improved, as the PS5 is so ugly!
  11. xtreme123's avatar
You can find the disc editions with gow on eBay for about this price or maybe 20 quid more. New but from private sellers
    Seanspeed's avatar
I'd be extremely skeptical of such offers. There's no way anybody can make money on selling brand new disc models well below MSRP. Nobody sells them for such low prices to begin with, so they'd either have to be stolen or they're just straight scamming people. (edited)
  12. jungleboy123's avatar
so as a PC gamer, can anyone convince me to get a PS5? What am i losing out... I probably will look to get a disc version, but not at these crazy prices. Thanks! (edited)
    Apoc64's avatar
Sony's first-party exclusives, although they're tending to come to PC down the line. Not all of them though, and the quality can vary (eg the state of the new TLOU port).

For me Sony have kinda become like Nintendo; a console you pick up purely for their exclusive AAA games and that's it. I've no need to get a PS5 right now but as soon as Silent Hill 2 / Death Stranding 2 turn up I'm all over it.
  13. megatron20's avatar
Just wait for the new redesign with the optional disk drive in the autumn, at least with that if you want a disc drive at some point you will be able to attach it.
    MDL199's avatar
    That's what I'm waiting on.
  14. dhuban's avatar
    Waiting for pro and slim

Is there a release date for the slim/pro? (edited)

Just bought disc console from EE for £450
  17. loofer's avatar
Also in stock at John Lewis, with their 2 year warranty

Why is this at RRP getting heat, but the disc version below it in the list going cold??
    Inconsistent voting...
    Weehamish's avatar
    That's what hukd is...

Not a HOT DEAL, sorry! If it was £299.99 then maybe. Lock yourself into digital games where Sony hold all the cards and determine price of games, when items go on sale for your entire duration of owning a PS5……or spend a little bit extra and get a 4K disc drive, the option to purchase games from disc or digital, the option to play any PS4 games you may want to play. Sure it looks a little bit nicer than the disc version, but I don’t know anyone who went digital without a tinge of regret. If Sony had a gaming service upto the standard of Game Pass (here come the fanboys!) then you might say it’s worth it but personally as a general recommendation get the disc version and you’ll have no regrets at all. (edited)
    7thSpartan's avatar
Agree 100%. Made this mistake myself thinking I could get games from 3rd parties, like with Xbox, but no. PlayStation store is an absolute rip off.

Outside of a few PS exclusives, it now gathers dust while I use the Xbox.
  20. DealHugger's avatar
    RRP?
    markyo007's avatar
HUKD said it is 99p below the RRP lol
  21. Jyoosi's avatar
    DelusionalUKDeals?

Literally RRP. It's been in stock at Argos and Smyths at this price for weeks next to me. They haven't been rare in ages.

Can only assume playstation fans upcoming anything with Sony in the name?
    Apoc64's avatar
I'd buy the "Sony fans up voting" thing if the OP hadn't also posted a non-deal for the RRP Disc version of the PS5, and that one went freezing cold. Mystifying
  22. braydee89's avatar
It’s still too big to fit in through the front door so I’ll wait on a slim.
    XP200's avatar
Yeap, should not be long now, reason i got rid of this model was the size as it would not fit under my tv.
  23. The.Fat.Cat's avatar
It drops to this price pretty frequently, good price though.
    p1001's avatar
Sure this is RRP for digital? (edited)
  24. coolio887's avatar
Do not buy the digital edition its a scam, please do not support them removing the disc drive and pay for the PS5 Disc
    hoov's avatar
Ok Everybody, Grandad has spoken, don't buy the digital edition. Stay in the 2000s.
  25. SassyTheSasquatch's avatar
This could be £200 cheaper than it currently is and you'd still be better off financially in the long run buying the disc version. (edited)
    Davidp87's avatar
Yup. Digital only benefits Sony. Not the consumer
  26. Jyoosi's avatar
Also for anyone debating disc v digital, pretty much all of Sony's first party PS5 games are well under £30 on eBay now. Buy it on eBay, finish it, sell it on eBay. You're pretty much gonna pay about a fiver per game that way.

Card providers are clamping down on the turkey VPN trick so digital is becoming more a case of waiting for sales and still paying over the odds for games, which then cannot be resold.
    jamie19916's avatar
Agree. I’ve started doing this; knowing I’m going to sell on stops me building a backlog too and I actually play through the games straight away.

Last game I managed to complete and make a tiny £1 profit on; making the game essentially free. With digital the money’s gone.
  27. stuartc74's avatar
Must be one of the worst consoles ever released in terms of aesthetics.
    DealHunterChaos's avatar
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some would say it is the best aesthetically.
  28. Nicmann's avatar
Games are far to expensive to go with digital only machines! You never really own the game you download.
    CMSeddon's avatar
100% correct on the pricing. Sucks so much that digital prices are what they are. Sadly the second point about not eeally owning the game you download is spilling over into disc versions of games that require you to always be online. Because if they shut the servers off the disc is useless. Luckily this isn't every game but it's becoming more common.
  29. markyo007's avatar
HUKD are allowing this because it is 99p below the RRP.
    gg1pl's avatar
Apple finance deals with 0p off goes nuclear with 2000+ heat!

Finance is hot I guess when Apple customers are used to having nothing off & help to pay for overpriced products is a gift from the gods

  30. markyo007's avatar
I tried to post a PS5 deal a lot of weeks back, it was 389.99, they removed it because it was RRP. But, this cracking deal is 99p below RRP. You have to wonder who makes the rules here
    acerza89's avatar
most of hotukdeal are bots, but this is a good and i am grateful for this website! heat
  31. Katro16's avatar
    RRP, crap
  32. swampyajc's avatar
Buying a digital console aint worth it, they rip u off on the digital games prices.
  33. Rone's avatar
Wonder how many people have bought this after seeing the heat its bringing in, thinking its an amazing deal 😬
    deleted2808586's avatar
I'm wondering if people are voting it hot because they think it's the disc version

Wait for May 2023. Major PlayStation Showcase. Sony might show off the PS5 Slim (for release around Sep 2023).
    killthegnome's avatar
Yep I've waited this long I'll wait a little longer for my slim
  35. Rone's avatar
Can the people adding heat enlighten me to why this is scorching hot, out of curiosity? (serious question) (edited)
  36. Rone's avatar
Because you are saving 99 pence.. Cost of living etc... 👀
  37. arthurplank's avatar
I sometimes pick up games for old consoles on disc in charity shops. The next generation of consoles will end this for the future. Also when the manufacturer stops supporting the platform it becomes a paperweight. For many people this is irrelevant as they'll be playing the next thing, but for others it will be the end of an era.
  38. Autie_Dino's avatar
Honestly, the digital console isn't a good idea

    - you lose the backwards compatibility with your existing PS4 games

    - the PS+ membership has a major issue with games that leave, you cant buy them on the store without contacting for EVERY game individually

    - you lose the ability to use as DVD & blu-ray player (yes you can buy external drives but they make it about same as a disc console)

    - you are locked into the notoriously high prices on PS store (edited)
  39. xxbluedragonxx's avatar
C’mon everyone! Let’s make it 2000 degrees for 99p saving. It’s just the best deal ever.

Better deal would be to get the PlayStation 5 with FIFA 23 bundle for just £191 more, absolutely bargain
    The_Deal_Of_Fortune's avatar
I picked up FIFA 23 for £20 via the FIFA 22 in-game menu. £171 extra is a bit much
