Below is copied from the Richer Sounds website for the AVR-X2800:

Same old look but with a spacious new sound.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2022 Product of the Year.

The Denon difference
Founded in 1910, Denon has over a century of audio experience. This experience becomes clear, as soon as you listen to the Denon AVR-X2800H. With a high performance, discrete 7-channel amplifier at its heart, this Denon AVR has a perfect balance of power and control. With 95 watts per channel, the full force of home cinema movies and gaming is easily realised.

Experience the immersion of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X use ceiling or up-firing speakers for three-dimensional and fully immersive sound. Whether it’s rain falling in a tropical jungle or the intense sound of overhead gunfire, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X put you in the centre of the action.

Extra height, without the speakers
As impressive as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound, it’s not always possible to accommodate the extra speakers. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization and DTS Virtual:X Height Virtualisation technology go some way to help. Play any Dolby format and enjoy a more immersive sound with virtual height enhancement – using your existing speakers. DTS Virtual:X also creates a more enveloping sound from any DTS codec. Compatible with 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 speaker configurations, DTS Virtual:X gives the impression of height and immersive sound.

Enhanced 8K, HDCP 2.3 HDMI compatibility
Upgrading on previous AVRX2000-series receivers, the X2800 now features three, 8K compatible HDMI sockets, compared to one. Both outputs are 8K compatible, too. They support 8K pass-through, 4K/120Hz and 8K upscaling of 4K content, too. The X2800 also supports the latest copy protection standard, HDCP 2.3.

Wide-ranging HDR support
The AVR-X2800H also supports a wide range of High Dynamic Range video formats. These include Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. It also supports HDR10+, which enhances picture realism by sending dynamic Meta data to your TV, as well as Dynamic HDR. In short, whatever the format used by the film, game or stream, the Denon supports it.

Made for gamers in mind
The enhanced HDMI interface makes this Denon AV receiver the perfect choice for gaming. There’s support for 4K/120Hz and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), giving you the best resolution and clarity. Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) help eliminate lag and frame tearing, giving you a smoother, more responsive gaming experience.

HEOS built-in - for the finest multi-room audio
HEOS multi-room music systems connect together by dual-band Wi-Fi, making them easy to set up with your existing home network. Up to 32 HEOS units can be set up at one time, ensuring even the largest of homes are covered for multi-room music. With HEOS already built-in, the AVC-X2800H is ready to go as a single 'zone' without any further adaptors.

Control it all with the HEOS app
Once you've set up your HEOS speaker system, you can stream music effortlessly via the dedicated HEOS app. Available for Apple iOS and Android, the app not only lets you stream your stored music but also Internet radio services and popular streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Napster and Deezer.

Use with your choice of voice assistant
Compatible with Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, the AVR-X2800H works with your voice assistant of choice. For Alexa or Google Assistant control, simply download the HEOS app. Pair your Echo device if you’re using Alexa and you’re good to go – adjust the volume, skip to the next track and switch inputs simply by asking Alexa or Google. For control via Siri, simply link the amp via Apple AirPlay 2 and enjoy voice interaction and AirPlay 2 multi-room support.

Audyssey MultEQ XT for optimised set-up
Featuring Audyssey's MultEQ XT technology, the AVR-X2800H adapts itself to your room's acoustics. Use the supplied Audyssey measuring microphone and the system tunes the AV receiver to provide the smoothest, most optimal overall listening experience for your room. If you want to take this even further, purchase the MultEQ Editor App (at additional cost) and you've access to advanced user settings.

Connect it all – from turntable to TV
With six HDMI inputs (three 8K, three 4K), the Denon has you covered for connecting all your video and gaming devices. Optical digital inputs are ideal for connecting older devices or upgrading the sound from a compatible CD/Network player. Four analogue inputs are perfect for Hi-Fi components, plus there’s a further, dedicated MM phono input for plugging in a turntable.

Quick Selects for the perfect sound – instantly
With such user flexibility, getting the perfect sound can be a complex business. For this reason, Denon has fitted the AVR-X2800H with four Quick Select audio presets. Take your time in setting the ideal sound balance for your TV, Blu-ray, games console and music source and recall them at the touch of a button for the ideal sound, instantly.

Get sound your big-screen TV deserves, with the Denon AVR-X2800H.

If you game at 4k 120hz then this would support it otherwise there is no point, want more features, better room correction ect then you would need to go up to a 3800h or switch brands.

    Surround Sound Channels
    5.2.2, 7.2

This means that you can't achieve what I'd call true atmos (probably a better term) as you can only have 2 height speakers, rather then 4. I'm sure I paid not much more than this for an Onkyo about 4 years ago with 5.1.4 (5 ear level, 1 sub, 4 height speakers). Probably with less bells and whistles, but worth considering

There is a is a recent thread somewhere on reddit with someone who that tested a bunch of blockbuster films on uhd bluerays only to find out that a lot of them where only 7.1.2 anyway 🤷‍♂️

When properly positioned 2 atmos channels is true atmos, problem is people seem to follow dolby's pdf for the overhead shot when its all about angle's. I am running a .2 setup and threw 2 more rear atmos channels up to see the difference, its negligible unless there is a panning shot from front to back. Also a lot of films are mixed really bad it seems.

Hi - can anyone who has this tell me how the virtual surround on headphones sounds? I have a yamaha AV receiver and love the virtual surround on headphones for both gaming and movies. I am reluctant to switch brands as my old Onkyo didn't have this. But denon seems cheaper than yamaha on ebay. Does it have virtual surround on headphones and any good? Thanks!

I only got stereo through the jack? Don't know if I had to do anything else to get different sound options, but couldn't see any options?

I suspect these Denon are being sold cheaper, due to the new Sony av receivers about to hit the market in June. I just purchased the x1700h. Little underpowered, but gets the job done.

Agreed. I just got the x1700h too but wanted the new Sony AN1000 but it's coming in June for £999. That well out of my price range. The X1700H is a nice upgrade on what I had before (Sony STR DH820) although does take some tweaking to get it to sound nice on all inputs especially TV sound.

Got this delivered Saturday along with a wharfedale sub to go with my 5 wharfedale speakers (ive been saving for 3 years to complete the setup) and will be installing it all on Tuesday cannot wait to hear it. I hope I'm going to hear a huge improvement over my 10 year old sony home theatre all in one.

I had x3600h and replaced it to x3800h because 3600 broke down and was sent to me damaged from repair centre so I had to upgrade. Forced upgrade but x3800h is better imo

    Hi All,

It seems new AVR prices have really shot up lately - surprised at how much. Does anyone know of a 7.2 powered AVR that has 9.2 channel processing please - I cannot afford a dedicated 9.2 Dolby Atmos AVR & have a spare power amp that I can hook up to get 5.1.4 Atmos/DTS:X.

    Many Thanks!

This amp should be great. I am still using AVR-X2300H for years now - they will outlast the TV for sure. They also became so much more expensive these days…

Mines all setup now and it truly sounds fantastic (only using 5.1) I'm shocked at how much individual sound wasn't coming out on my original 5.1. Also my picture quality looks to be improved too. It has so many options too and I only realised 2 days after setting it up that it had quick sound mode buttons (which gives about 20 different modes) ps5 sounds stunning on it (i use the neural x mixing mode)and my amazon music sounds beautiful too (using multi channel surround) everything else I set to auto.

I'm looking to buy this but It's showing as £699 for me in the basket with no discount code. I'm signed in as a VIP. Can someone confirm this is still showing as £599 for them and if it has a discount code that I could manually add?
