My last order with them took 1 1/2 months to arrive. I’ve never had issues before but they seem to have had some sort problem in the last 2 months processing orders. Really annoying but my hard drive did finally arrive this week.

If you are storing data,it's ok.If you are a heavy user (write and re-write often) I would watch out.

I run an operating system on one of mine plus all programs, never been an issue.

As Ive said on these deals before, Id rather buy a recertified drive, as its actually been checked and tested, unlike the ones that literally fly off the production lines, potentially with faults.
I have 2 of these. (edited)

Exactly. I've been using recertified drives from WD for years. Never had a bit of trouble with any of them.

I feel we're long overdue sever price decreases. We've had offers in this price range for years.

With solid state storage costs coming down drastically too, these should be cheaper (aware this is mechanical, not flash)

Recertified= previously faulty and returned , right ?

My own experience with WD says that they are one of the least dependable brands .

I have two recertified western digital drives, 2TB and 4TB, never had an issue with them.

Any input on whether this would be good to store 4K films and media on and play off nvidia shield?

It's fine. I do so with the 5TB model

Unable to login despite password reset

I had the same problem after they asked me to do a password reset. Dump the page, start again and it should work.

I dont need another drive but seeing this deal reminded me to check my account after their recent "problem" so thanks for posting it.

Has someone previously got confused and thought this was a toaster then?

    What are the transfer speeds?
    dicey69's avatar
That will largely depend on your computer. In my experience you never get the speeds advertised. But I have a few of these and can comfortably get 20mb/second. (edited)

Is Recertified the same as second hand?

I'm guessing it can't be the same because buying a second hand mechanical hard drive with a reduced warranty period would be a really unwise move and a bad deal.

Is it just me or has it happened to someone else's before? I bought one in April and it failed suddenly yesterday. It would be great if someone could suggest where I should consider to have it repaired. I wanted to have my data back. There are approximately 10% of the used space that hasn't been backed up.
