I brought a refurbished (1.5TB drive from WD in late March). It was a dead on arrival, and I have spent the last 2 months arguing with them to arrange a replacement / refund. They kept fobbing me off with "systems issues" preventing them from accepting returns, then they processed me an RMA but tried to make me pay for return postage. They finally caved in last week, and emailed me a pre-paid return label - still waiting for my refund.
To be honest, these are a bargain, but if you have any issues their customer service is a nightmare to deal with.

They've been running around with their hair on fire since the data breach. Their store has been down for the same amount of time - probably just after you made your purchase.
If you paid on credit card, you can just ask your bank for a chargeback. They've the same amount of responsibility to you as the retailer does.

I need a drive to store 4K films and series on to play off my Nvidia shield pro. Not sure if this will be any good, any input from any of u?
    grv999's avatar
Yeah, will be fine. Have a recertified WD drive plugged into my Shield as removable storage for the same purpose.

Is this an SSD drive? If not why is this better than a SSD SATA in an enclosure? (edited)
    chrisjlocke's avatar
No, its a normal HDD, ie, a spinnin' set of platters.

    > why is this better than a SSD SATA in an enclosure?

Cheaper. Once in an enclosure, the speed is limited by USB 3 (or 2...) speeds, so SSD or HDD is irrelevant (apart from SSD is more reliable*).

*May or may not be a valid comment. Any drive is prone to corruption or just dying at the worst possible time, but normal HDDs probably more so than SSDs. (edited)
