it does. I'm toying between the KC3000 and the P5 Plus, so not having to pay postage might sway me to this

Bought a used MX500 SATA drive 2TB for 100 quid a year ago. Had I known prices for these would drop this much... I would've still bought the MX500 and have more storage for a year lol

Great price for a performant drive though.

Hi guys, maybe there is some Techie out there who could steer me in the right direction? I want to put an nvme drive in an external TB4 enclosure and gain max transfer read/write speeds on TB4 port, and is there any point in using this drive as my understanding is absolute max speed I could hope for using TB4 is around 2,750 MBs Write and about 2,900 read using an external TB4 enclosure, so would this drive be over spec and better off using a cheaper lower spec rated nvme drive?

If you want to maximize the transfer read/write speeds on a Thunderbolt 4 (TB4) port using an external NVMe drive, it's important to consider a few factors.

Firstly, it's worth noting that the theoretical maximum transfer speeds of TB4 are indeed around 2,750 MB/s for writes and 2,900 MB/s for reads. However, achieving these speeds in real-world scenarios can be influenced by various factors, including the performance capabilities of the NVMe drive itself, the quality and design of the external enclosure, and the overall system configuration.

While using a high-performance NVMe drive can provide faster speeds, it might not necessarily reach the full potential of TB4 due to other limiting factors. Therefore, investing in a high-end NVMe drive could result in diminishing returns if the rest of the setup doesn't fully support those speeds.

To get maximum transfer speeds on a Thunderbolt 4 (TB4) port with an external NVMe drive, consider the following:

    1. Choose a TB4 enclosure: Make sure it's designed for high-speed NVMe drives and has TB4 connectivity.
    2. Check drive performance: Look for NVMe drives with sustained read/write speeds close to or slightly above TB4's maximum speeds.
    3. Consider your needs: If you don't regularly transfer large files or perform high-speed tasks, a lower-spec NVMe drive may be more cost-effective.

In short, while a high-performance NVMe drive can offer faster speeds, ensure the enclosure and system configuration support those speeds. Consider your requirements and balance performance with cost-effectiveness.

P.S. This is what ChatGPT told me (edited)

Welcome further price drops, I personally have my eye on the 4tb model for the same £250 from earlier or £200 would be amazing.

Can't believe I bought the sn850x 1tb model for £85 just a few weeks ago and thought that was a steal.

We will probably see more downward pressure in the short term on NAND price, as China banned Micron in the country. In the mid to long term, we are currently at the tail of the current inventory cycle. (edited)
