It's back again at this lower price, this the black version as well. . I would 100% recommend it. A great way to save energy and make the heating smart, indeed.

  • Saving energy starts with your thermostat. Your thermostat controls 60% of your energy bill. So shouldn’t it help you save energy? The Nest Learning Thermostat does. Since 2011, it’s saved over 4 billion kWh of energy in millions of homes worldwide*. Because it learns from you. It gets to know the temperature that you like while you’re at home. And turns itself down when you’re away. It even learns how your home warms up or how draughty it is, so it only uses the energy that it needs
  • Auto-Schedule. Just turn it up and down. It learns the temperatures that you like and creates a schedule for you
  • Home/Away Assist. It automatically adjusts the temperature after you’ve left. It can even turn off your hot water if you’re away for a few days
  • Hot water. Now you can control your hot water tank. And give your hot water a boost when you need it
  • OpenTherm technology. Nest now uses OpenTherm technology to modulate your high-efficiency condensing boiler
  • Remote control. Change the temperature and control your hot water tank from anywhere using your mobile, tablet or laptop
  • Farsight. When the Nest Thermostat spots you across the room, it lights up beautifully to show you the time, temperature or weather

Only problem with these is that it will only let you set your water to come on in half hour intervals.

For us our water tank gets red hot in about 40 mins. So you either have to have it luke warm or leave it on for an hour. strange choice for what I'm sure is a very easy fix!

Very good apart from that though! (edited)

Your water tank should have its own temperature sensor, so even if it’s on for an hour on the nest if it takes 40mins to reach the desired temperature it will go off anyway

This was released in 2015!! Is there any news on new nest thermostat? Would love to have multi room support like Tado.

3rd gen does have multiroom support unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean by that?

I recently installed 4 of these for 4 different heating zones. 3 zones for ground floor heating and 1 zone for bedrooms.

Used to be good, used to work with HUE, Google, one of the largest if not the biggest company in the world, have made a mess of it, like they seem to do with everything, numpties.

Wow, we cannot see that price very often. You sure that wasn't the 2nd gen? (edited)

Beware that the Heat Links that come with them notoriously fail, so much so that google are replacing them now regardless of warranty. Granted it’s free but it’s a pain when your hot water or heating fails and you have to do without until an engineer turns up and swaps it.

I’ve had two replaced now :/ (edited)

Had mine about 8 months still cant get the power monitoring / history to work. If you google it seems to be a big problem and google not bothered. Shows the data on the thermostat but always wrong in the app (edited)

Hi all, moving into a new house in September, is it worth pulling the trigger now at this price or do we think it will be cheaper down the line? thanks in advance!

This came with the new built property. Master bedroom has Google thermostat with no valve (TRV) on the radiator but other 2 rooms have.

Meaning if I turn the thermostat off, heating in other 2 rooms is cut off. Normally I don’t need heating at night but some guest’s struggle because of this

Builder said it’s how it is supposed to be (radiator doesn’t have a valve in the same room as thermostat). I think it’s a poor design. Any solution to this issue?

The best feature on this for me is the ability to put a limit on the temp setting. So for example you set the max temp to 21c but the default everyday temp to 19c that means when someone comes in and wants a bit more heat they can turn it up to 21c. BUT it will stay up until the next setting block comes in. So that could be 11pm and someone turns it up at 1pm and goes back out for the rest of the day.

SO you have to set the 19c temp every hour so there will be 10 x 1 hr blocks between 1pm and 11pm. Then when someone ups the temp to 21c it will knock back down to 19c after 1 hr. If they want more heat they have to get off their backsides, or if they go out it's not wasting energy all day. I pay the bills I set the rules and I have the PIN number.
