BLACK+DECKER WM301 Workmate Workbench
The BLACK+DECKER WM301 Workmate Workbench has been designed with keen DIYers and their limitless projects in mind. Its design is simple, making it easy to set up and clean up and, most importantly, Workmate allows the user to work safely and focus on the project. The Workmate allows you to fix the piece you are working on to the workbench so that you can work on it with both hands without the risk of it moving during the application.

This workbench holds securely virtually any materials up to 115 mm in width and weighting up to 160 kg. Thanks to its dual clamping cranks, you can work on irregular shaped items and, together with adjustable swivel pegs and jaw retention grooves, the workbench delivers even higher clamping versatility and reliable material hold.

Durable steel frame construction makes the workbench robust and sturdy. In addition, workbench legs have rubber, anti-slip feet fitted to avoid any risk of slippage when force is applied during the application.

The WM301 is lightweight and compact and can be folded flat, making it easy to store it and convenient to transport. It is easy to set up and quick to clean up not requiring any additional maintenance.

The einhell and similar are cheaper but use mdf for the work surface which bends and breaks where as this uses bamboo which is worth the extra money without question

    Good value.
I was tempted to get this a while back but ended up spending a little more on one that clamps vertically too (was £25 at the time with a voucher) -

If you don't need the vertical clamp this B&D will be perfect and well worth £20. (edited)

I've a few of versions of this (and other brands) in the garage pretty much seized shut and with broken MDF etc.
I'd really recommend saving a bit longer and going for one of the fold-up plastic KETER benches or similar, like THIS for example that can be blagged with patience for less than £50. Agreed it's significantly more but it is significantly better and more versatile, and not much more when you factor in the fairly decent clamps that come with.
I'm not meaning to provoke and all-our bench war, I'm just sharing my experience.

I kind of are Keter-style benches are good but I find them pretty poor for sawing as the clamps don't hold the workpiece near the edge of the bench. As a consequence whatever you are sawing flexes between the clamp and the edge of the bench.

On the other hand, a Workmate grips the workpiece right to the very to the edge of the bench so it's much more stable.

Don't worry, B&D stuff isn't worth any extra these days - it's not the brand it used to be!

My B&D Workmate must be 20 plus years old. It almost breaks your back to lift it. Not quite the same as the ones being sold today.

I'm still using my dad's from the 70s. Must be around 45 years old and built like a tank.

I have this but the plastic jaws cracked.
the replacement are dearer than this.

I would still recommend a workmate as handy to have.

neve used the cheaper ones. although I'm sure there fine too

Looks good for the price; I won't be buying as I have a vintage one I bought for about £30 in 1979. Still gets used sporadically here and otherwise folded up acts as a storage rack for wellington boots.

At this price it'd be rude not to. The price of these things has go e through the roof lately. I'm still using my 15 or so year-old one from Tesco that I got from a deal on here for £10! Has a few new additions like mounting points for vice etc. It's just an MDF unit, but there's never anything heavy enough on it to require more.

£10 15 years ago is £15.21 today, but sure yes it's still a price rise

If you have Aldi anywhere nearby try there. I got mine very similiar for £4 reduced off £8 full price. It may not be as good as b&q but it’s ok for my needs.
