I would recommend buying from Argos. As last time I bought from Amazon and it broke after 14 months and they couldn’t replace it as there’s only one year warranty. Argos offering £4.99 for 3 years accidental cover and if you signup for their news letter with new email you get £5 off. Ended up getting it for £38.98 with insurance, so paid with nectar points as I had loads and never knew where to spend them. I was thinking of trade in with Amazon it would have brought it down to £28 with 20% off and 2.99£ for device but worth paying extra and getting peace of mind. If you still prefer to go trade in route just remember say it’s without remote as you don’t get anything extra for sending remote back and you can keep it as an extra remote just in case yours get lost or broke. Or you can sell it for extra money. Choice is yours 🏼 (edited)

The question is how did you break the firestick?

What would you recommend between this Google TV? This is a little bit cheaper.
    FreakyGeek's avatar
I have both the fire cube and the Google TV and I honestly prefer the Google TV. The home screen is less cumbersome. Apps tend to work better. I've found Amazon has over bloated their devices lately. My 4k max is currently sat in a draw.

Of course don't just take my word for making your own choice. Each to their own.

Just ordered at £38.99, have agreed a trade-in for a broken gen 1 with a remote but no accessories for 20% & £2.99 off, to be applied as a credit once they receive the trade-in device. Bit of a faff trying to arrange the trade-in return out of hours at a UPS drop-off just using a scan of the labels from the Amazon email they sent me. The nearest one to me was at an off licence 3 miles away & the assistant couldn't do it when I went there before because the manager wasn't there at the time. Any tips on the easiest way to do it? I will be printing all the required labels in work tomorrow, but won't be able to get to any potential drop off locations until after 7pm tomorrow.

Normally the 20% discount applies straight away and you should have selected no remote because even if you send the remote you don’t get anything extra for it so keep it as a spare or sell it for extra money. All you get for trade in is £2.99 and 20% discount with or without remote. Don’t forget if your remote breaks you’ll have to pay around a tenner for a replacement. (edited)

Does the fire stick you trade in have to have everything included and function?
    MrWani's avatar
Definitely doesn't require a remote. Not sure on whether it has to boot. If you go to the trade in page and tell them what you've got it'll confirm whether it qualifies. I suspect it will.

Do you get the 20% trade in voucher immediately when submitting form or do you need to wait for them to receive your return …. ?
    deag's avatar
I sent an old NowTV box in for a nominal £1 gift card and 20% discount. It was processed in about 3 days from shipping (UPS collection point).

(obvs, it was the discount I needed).

is new version available this year?
    anonymouse0's avatar
I don't think so. Possibly the year after next judging by previous update cycles

Excuse me if I'm sounding silly, what are the benefits of getting the stick if I have a smart tv and IPTV, anything else that stands out so it's worth getting, FOMO kicking in, this site is terrible for that
    KashifHUKD's avatar
If your smart tv apps are working fine and you don't want to sideload any other unofficial apps, then you're not missing out on anything. It's just a cheap streaming device to make your tv smart if it isn't already.

Sent my Fire stick for a trade, it got approved today with £2.99 and 20% discounts, but 4k Max is back on on the full price now.

Is that coming back down at some point, does anyone knows?

Also, any idea how long will this discount remain active on my amazon account?

First half of July (Prime Day/Week)

Is it worth upgrading my current firestick 4K to 4K Max model?
    jaxdia1's avatar
Just picked up the new one today, set it up, and it's not night and day, but it's definitely a lot quicker. If it annoys you to a big extent, like it did me (plus the remote battery cover kept falling off), then go for it at this price.

    Great deal
    Ordered one, thanks OP.

What happens if I set up the trade in for 99p and don't send in the device? Just to get the 20% code. I got the 20% code straight away as well as the 99p credit, I guess as the trade in device was linked to my account (edited)

Great deal. Got a 20% trade in on my 2nd Gen which runs incredibly slow now despite factory reset, plus a £2.99 voucher applied immediately as well.
Still prefer my Google TV which is getting on for four years old and still going strong, but this will do for occasional 2nd tv.
  16. krazykush's avatar
Ordered and traded in my 1st gen firestick which struggles to stay on lol.

Is it correct that I've been charged the £2.99 (trade-in value) on my card.... and assume that will be refunded once the trade-in has been accepted??

The 20% did come off the total price however :-)

Cheap device that'll work for the trade in?
  26. goss.man's avatar
Urgh, id snap this up if i could find the power adapter for an old chromecast or if they accepted the fire stick tv lite version as trade in :-(
  27. bargainhunter1's avatar
Has anyone traded 'Lite' version...if so which one would you select out of list please.
    goss.man's avatar
Been trying to do that too, from reading the main trade in page they only accept specific devices that periodically change, never been listed when iv tried so far though.
  28. cheesebrain's avatar
Cheers, got it got 28.20 with 1st gen trade in.
  29. EightBitBebop's avatar
I bought one with the 20% off last month using a broken firestick and i got a 2.99 trade in

Went to try the damaged firestick and it works! I will use this elsewhere in the house now. I think it will only bill me for the 2.99 when they dont recieve the trade in, may be worth 'pretending' to trade a unit in if you want the 20% off and just hit when they bill you 2.99 for the unit they never recieved....
    tvfan's avatar
So I just cancelled the trade in, the gift card voucher was removed from my account but I already had the fire stick at 20% off in my hands. Not bad!
  30. dgrain's avatar
Seems to be a limit of a purchase of 2. Seems odd they would limit this.
    gen271674's avatar
Usually it's just 2 at a time. Had this before. Just because quantity only goes to 2, doesn't mean can't go straight back and purchase 2 more and so on. Give it a whirl and let us know.

This has now expired, for me at least. Strange, as the Argos price is still live by the looks of it.

I have an issue with my trade in. I received an email earlier today stating that it has been accepted, & an Amazon gift card balance of £2.99 has been applied to my account. The email also states that the trade-in item they received was different to what they were expecting, even though I started the trade in while on the phone to an Amazon advisor. I gave him the serial number from the trade in device, ( a gen 1 stick) , & then printed off & used the label he emailed to me while we were still on the phone, & then successfully processed the return at the drop-off point next day. The 20% trade-in discount currently still hasn't been applied to my £38.99 order. Anyone else with a similar experience of this happening to them? I would have thought the 20% would be applied at the same time as the £2.99, but as of yet that hasn't happened.
  37. UnbearableBob's avatar
Just contacted Amazon CS & the 20% discount (£7.80) will be put back onto my card in 7 working days. With the £2.99 credit, that takes the price down to £28.20. Happy with that.
    techtel's avatar
You do know that the price has gone back up to £64.99?
