Features

Apple silicon’s next chapter is here.
M2 and M2 Pro scale up our breakthrough system on a chip (SoC) architecture, which combines the CPU, GPU, unified memory and Neural Engine on a single power‑efficient chip. M2 brings a faster, next‑generation CPU and GPU to Mac mini, along
with much higher memory bandwidth. M2 Pro
delivers even more CPU and GPU cores, with double the memory bandwidth of M2. And both chips feature an industry‑leading media engine that rips through ProRes, H.264 and HEVC video so you can edit multiple streams even at 8K resolution.

M2.
M2 brings the next generation of Apple silicon to Mac mini, packing in over 20 billion transistors — 25 percent more than M1. And with 50 percent more memory bandwidth than M1, M2 lets you cruise through workflows and seamlessly switch between apps.

More power at your command.
Apple silicon allows Mac mini to outperform desktops many times its size. The next‑generation 8‑core CPU in M2 is up to 18 percent faster than M1, and the new 10‑core GPU delivers up to 35 percent faster graphics performance than M1. The 12‑core CPU in M2 Pro offers up to 1.9 times faster performance than M1, and its 19‑core GPU is up to 2.6 times faster.

Mini does that.
With macOS Ventura, your go‑to apps run lightning fast on Mac mini — from Microsoft 365 to Adobe Creative Cloud to Zoom. And over 15,000 apps and plug-ins are optimised for M2 and M2 Pro. Organise your apps and windows with Stage Manager, so you can stay focused while seamlessly moving between tasks. Dive into a multiplayer gaming session with SharePlay. Or start a to‑do list on your iPhone and pick it up on Mac mini without missing a beat.

Memory you won’t forget.
Unified memory on Mac does more than traditional RAM. A single pool of high-bandwidth, low‑latency memory allows Apple silicon to move data more efficiently — so everything you do is fluid.

Privacy and security.
M2 and macOS Ventura give Mac mini industry‑leading privacy and security features beyond anything in its class, including built‑in protections against malware and viruses. And the next‑generation Secure Enclave helps keep your system and your data protected.

Versatility. All systems go.
With its next-level performance, wide array of ports and compact size, this mini desktop is perfect for an impressive range of uses — and ready to take on whatever you do.

Thunderbolt 4.
Transfer data at up to 40Gb/s.3 Charge and power external devices. And expand your workspace with external displays that can output video at up to 6K resolution and 60Hz with Thunderbolt 4. HDMI unlocks up to 8K video output.

Wi-Fi 6E.
Another first for Mac mini, Wi‑Fi 6E delivers better all‑around performance and up to 2.4Gb/s of throughput — for superfast file transfers or backing up to Time Machine.

Designed with the earth in mind.
We designed Mac mini to minimise environmental impact and support our net-zero carbon goal — from using 100 per cent recycled aluminium in its enclosure to ensuring that almost all wood fibre in its packaging comes from responsibly managed forests.

£719 for 16 GB version is pretty well worth it.
    deleted531767's avatar
It's a better option, but £170 extra for another 8GB of ram is a ripoff.

Can pay less this new if eligible for Student discount 😜 - £539

Is there a way to become eligible?

Yet another deal where people lap up Apples marketing and believe that their processors are made of magic and can avoid the limits of RAM size.

TLDR, Apple removed the upgradability of their systems to create a problem of their own, then span up their marketing engine to claim they found a magic solution... To a problem only they have created, because money.

Oh wow, they soldered some RAM next to the GPU, CPU, and soldered SSD. Great, you have low latency components! Such fast! Much wow!

Apple aren't doing any magic. You either want macos or you don't, that is literally the only thing worth considering. You won't ever get good value with Apple, but that's not the point. Their hardware is magnificent, and people like the idea of security/privacy that MacOS/iOS claims to provide. To each their own.

    Cool story, bro

Not voting either way because it's 8GB.

There's a roaring engine under the bonnet, but limited by it's spec. Depends what you want but I also factor in resale value when purchasing.

8GB is more than enough for this. Why do people keep perpetuating this myth that 8GB is limiting somehow? It’s not an Android device that needs 8GB just to boot up. MacOS runs fine on 4GB x86 let alone 8GB on Silicon. I use a Mac every day, I don’t think you’ve ever touched one.

    Any good?

Just joking. Of course not, it's mac os.

    Oh you so funny!!!

Apple cannot make RAM upgradeable on Apple Silicon as the unified RAM shared by CPU and GPU is on the M1/M2 SoC (System on Chip). This improves performance enormously.
These devices include CPU, GPU, neural engine, RAM and I/O which is one reason for the fantastic performance.
An M2 has 30% faster memory bandwidth at 100GB/s than an Intel Core i9-12900. An M2 Pro is even faster at 200GB/s and an M2 Max runs at 400GB/s memory bandwidth.
Intel have just abandoned their plans to produce an integrated XPU containing CPU and memory:

I do dev work, 8gb m1 chugged and videos lagged before I went up to the 16gb model.
    mr_johnsie's avatar
    But this is m2. (edited)

If you're doing a bit of gaming which Macs are actually pretty good for nowadays especially when it comes to Nintendo emulation and Crossover translation layers then you're going to want 16 GB RAM.

Yet another Mac deal full of posts from people who don't know how Apple Silicon works.

Is an 8GB Mac going to be fine until 2026, considering the rise of Ai tools?
  10. mrBrian's avatar
This is an okay price but not a good deal really.

I swapped from a brand new xps i7 with 32gb ram (£2k) to this specific model and haven’t looked back since.
8gb runs fine with Teams + general M365 apps, WhatsApp, outlook, 5/6tabs of safari etc.
If video editing you may want more ram but for my use case it’s streets ahead of windows machines at “higher specs”. My Dell was huffing and puffing at running these applications and getting hot.

Word of warning though, Mac’s don’t allow active x in excel so if you have heavy spreadsheets this won’t work. That’s not ram related though.

Also; 256gb is plenty for a lot of people in terms of apps. I use iCloud for docs across devices so not an issue, and don’t have games etc on the Mac mini so space is more than enough. (edited)

The last few weeks I have gone back to my 2012 (!) Macbook pro coming from an i7, 32 GB RAM dell XPS. The dell was running at max clock speed when connected to a monitor, fans at max rpm constantly, throttling, lagging. Terrible. MacBook has no issues with the same tasks

It's a good price but only £50 less than a brand new one from Amazon.
    alexf's avatar
I'd take the refurb. Save £50, same warranty from Apple
  13. crack_shot's avatar
If no one buys it, Apple will release the M3 with upgradable HDD and RAM

holding the effing line people. We already have Jensen desperate to win back gamers. We could probably make Tim cook give in (and also finally drop the silly messaging BS IOS does)

After being on this website for so long, I can’t tell if this is satire.

I use an M1 mini with 8Gb, and it runs loads better than the i5 16Gb it replaced. I don't do video editing though, so maybe thats why?

Mac minis are great little dev machines, if you need a mac anyway.
  15. alexf's avatar
considering the M1 refurb is £509, this is impressive
    nofuture2020's avatar
Except I've seen multiple times the M2 floating around this price for new ones on offer so don't think I'd pay that much for a refurb
  16. mooooof's avatar
Voted hot, decent entry mac. Cheaper with student discount but not everyone can get that.

8gb ram is plenty for most, not everyone works with VMs/docker/video editing/100 chrome tabs (edited)
    Abc_defg100's avatar
How is it for basic iOS dev and testing?

Docker would be great alongside light emulation for basic iOS apps - would this be enough?

Not a fan macs generally but thinking of picking this up for porting some cross platform apps already running on Android and pentesting work.

Asking you because you don't seem to be on any particular bandwagon unlike 90% of comments here being completely polarised "unusable crap" and "apple can do no wrong" (edited)
  17. Blandalorian's avatar
    That’s a great price for an M2
  18. lewilewi41's avatar
Wow, and I'm struggling to sell my brand new one (undid packaging, then put back) for £570.
    umirza85's avatar
Most people would rather just buy direct from apple if your price is even within £50 or so of new. You'd need to drop the price to shift it, but you mentioned it's new so why not just return it?
  19. L_GRL7's avatar
8GB is just enough for internet surfing
    dlo247's avatar
I edit 8K video, bit of rendering, and 4K/6K with zero lag/ rendering regularly.
  20. Mill_Ennium's avatar
Is this good for a plex server and emulator? Is the ram gonna be a bottleneck?
    designer_friend's avatar
I wouldn't be using Mac silicon for emulation. You can get a lot better for this money for your use case
  21. duncanhill's avatar
Voted positive but have ordered new item with 16GB ram using TOTUM student discount £719. I think for most people 8GB RAM will be fine but I’m running Xcode & Android Studio, Android Studio is challenging at the best of times and the reason for the 16GB ram.
    misa426's avatar
Do I need to be a student to get that price?
  22. sancho1983's avatar
Any good alternatives to the studio display to go with this?
I need two 27" displays and I'll be bankrupt
    deleted1945554's avatar
Do you require 5K? If so, there's only one monitor that's virtually the equivalent of the Studio Display and that's the LG UltraFine 27MD5KL-B 27" 5K monitor.

I purchased this monitor back in April 2021 at £895 and still going strong. The aesthetic obviously isn't quite as pretty as the Studio, not as bright and has larger bezels, but I don't care as it absolutely rocks and I don't view the panel at full brightness anyway. Although, if you purchase two of the LG 27" monitors, you won't be able to run both simultaneously with the thunderbolt cables. There is a workaround, though.

Currently on Amazon at £1,164.92, which is an absolute bargain: LG UltraFine
  23. sancho1983's avatar
Thanks for that. 4k is more than enough I think
