This is a very good price, but just remember at over 80dB you need to be wearing ear protection. These are as loud as a lawn mower, so imagine having this next to you for an hour cleaning a sofa ( over 80dB for longer than 30 mins can cause hearing loss )

Also if you're going to be cleaning your carpets what Bissell don't tell you is that damp carpets smell, so adding a deodoriser and anti fungal to the tank can not only make them smell nice, but also prevent mould and mildew growth.

Also pre treating stains prior to using the machine is much more effective than just going over a stain with the machine. In fact you don't even need to use detergents in the rinse tank if you do it that way.

    I use this stuff:

I find a portable dehumidifier is needed to dry the carpet and prevent smell. Avoids the use of poisons. (edited)

After cleaning the carpets shouldn’t smell at all…
The only carpet type that give off any smells are wet wool carpets..
If your carpet smells after cleaning it
you have definitely over-wet it so user error
And because the machine is so underpowered it won’t be able to extract enough water back up..
Which will inevitably leave the carpets damp and eventually smelly through to the underlay.. (edited)

That's my point, people who use domestic carpet cleaning machines aren't trained or educated by these companies and therefor make mistakes. There's no information on how to clean a wool twist or a polyprop carpet, a viscose rug or a nylon sofa. People buy these machines and damage their property on a grand scale. I probably go to rectify jobs every other day from people hiring rug doctors and the number one cause is overwetting, and that doesn't just happen with wool it happens on any carpet. Mould and mildew sets in without proper ventilation or the use of snails and dripods and the house can in some cases become unlivable. That's why I mentioned the use of anti-fungals to prevent that ever happening.

For not much more you could buy an upright and then you can do everything, I can't see why anyone would buy it

    Portability

    Easy access
    Quieter
    Person may not have carpets
    Valet business
    Spare machine

Lots of reasons why people own spotters rather than uprights.

I have one here, bought last year and honestly don't know how people survive without one if they have pets at home. Its been an absolute life saver, works well for the car too but missing some extra brushes for that.
