Definitely not for the gamers, but a cracking price for an office/internet machine. Only 4gb RAM, but has 2x DDR4 DIMM slots, so have just ordered some Crucial 3200 DDR4 2x8gb sticks for £31.49 to upgrade to 16gb. Takes an NVME SSD and also has space for a SATA drive. B660 chipset and CPU is socketed, so in theory any Alder Lake chip will work. G7400 is 2 cores, 4 threads.

No PCIe slots (despite covers on back of case, the socket isn't fitted to the board), so onboard GPU only - fine for productivity.

Supplied with keyboard, mouse and Windows 11 Home.

Should be a good deal faster than the usual 'Celeron' or slow laptop CPUs at this price point.

I was looking to upgrade an ITX non-gaming machine, and couldn't even get a motherboard and CPU for this kind of price.

Argos are selling the 5i (similar spec but 8gb RAM) for £349.

Some places selling refurbs of this machine for >£150.

EDIT: back in stock

Can't really grumble, another stick of ram and you've got a basic desktop that'll suit many users. Not everyone needs a powerhouse to surf, email etc.

As a tip to anyone adding RAM, BIOS doesn't appear to support XMP, so you need RAM that has 3200Mhz JEDEC specs, which is why I ordered the Crucial stuff, or it will default to a slower speed.

I bought this the other day and put a clean windows 10 os and upped the ram to 16gb It’s got a m.2 ssd with read and writes for up to 1gb.

It does the job for web browsing and docs. Or a media server which I am using it for (edited)

    Can you upgrade the CPU>?

Its worse than 8th gen by quite a margin.

It's a desktop CPU, so don't see why not. Just needs to be one with an IGPU (i.e. not an 'F' model). They sell this chassis with everything up to an i7.

List of parts is here, which shows a socketed CPU: pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/…now

No problem at all if you upgrade the power supply, case, motherboard, CPU, RAM and add a graphics card.

you're not going to get very far with Windows 11 and 4gb ram. WIndows 11 struggles with 8gb ram let alone 4.

Hence the description that it's easy and cheap to add more RAM to this.

    Changed my mind about this.

"IF" you can upgrade to a 12th gen i3 & expand ram to 8gb or even better 16gb you will have a great machine for about £270.

Voting hot for people who don't mind upgrading or giving it a go.

Would've been great as a low-end gaming PC or for emulation, if it had a more potent iGPU or a PCIe slot for a low profile GPU.

The CPU is perfectly adequate for any office/multimedia work.

I use one of these as a music source, space for an old fashioned spinny disk drive makes storage cheap and plentiful and CPU is more than enough for decoding even large DSD files "which seem to be even more work than MQAs".

I still run 2 PC's with G4560's in them hooked up to TV's for web browsing, youtube etc. mini ITX case with a 180W power supply and 8G of RAM. This setup is perfect for its use and the G4560 is more than adequate for what it does. I even have one PC still with an i5 3570k although that has a 1060 for 4k in it as well.

Exactly. This is going to replace a system with 4gb RAM, 128gb SSD and a Pentium G2020 that's been running untouched for 10yrs and only now getting a bit slow for its user. I thought about dropping in my spare i5-3570k, bigger SSD and 16gb of DDR3 but this is faster, more efficient, has a better GPU for hardware decoding, fast NVME storage, built-in Wifi etc. Nearly built a cheap Ryzen 4600g system, which would have better multicore performance and a much better GPU, but just the CPU and motherboard would be £150-200, and I'm then relying on a 10yr old PSU, a case with no front USB 3.0, etc, or it's an extra £100 to upgrade everything. It's for a relative, so something new with a warranty is another bonus. They don't play games on it.

Wow. Good price! 30£ for 2x8gb RAM and you have a great basic system with some upgrade path.

Thanks for posting this deal OP!
Decided to snag one as I am sooo tired of not being able to get into the guts of my laptops to update and tinker with!
I've ordered the Crucial memory you've suggested as well. Thanks again for that too!

I literally just ordered yesterday, the other IdeaCentre posted on here, at £400. It's just going to be used for basic web browsing and the odd word doc. Would this one be almost as good? It's so much cheaper even factoring in the ram upgrade cost. Thanks in advance for any advice

sometime you can get a 8th gen i3 refurbished business leasing PC for £80~£90 (i5 if lucky enough) ... most of them including 8gb of ram, 256gb nvme ...
    Andy1179's avatar
    Andy1179 Author
True, but you can buy anything used for less than a new item. How much wear does the used NVME drive have? For me, it's a good deal when the complete new system is considerably below the cost of equivalent new components. What people then choose to buy is up to them.

The HDMI does 4k@60Hz so can be used as a media centre.

Get this, wait for a Windows 11 version of AtlasOS to install and it'll feel a lot quicker.
Or downgrade it to Win 10 and install AtlasOS.
Designed for low end gaming PC's but it helps across the board.

It's a good price for a basic web browsing/shopping/Netflix etc PC.

The only thing I would say is there are better options from CEX/WeBuy, but then you're not getting a brand new PC.
This is a decent one -

Although AtlasOS does have compatibility issues and sacrifices security. It's not to be recommended for most people, only those who realise the trade-offs.

Would this work well or be able to handle 4k plex encodes etc?
    gen271674's avatar
    gen271674
Reckon it'll be just fine. On Intel chips it's all about Quicksync which this has on the iGPU (UHD710). That'll do the encodes. My 7600 with UHD630 does just fine. Plex requires Plex Pass though to make use of the hardware transcoding. £4 a month or other options. The £100 lifetime pass gets discounted to £75 usually 1 or 2 times a year here too.

If only it had a bigger power supply
    Andy1179's avatar

I'm not sure it needs one. It has no PCIe slot for a GPU and all configurations use 65W CPUs, with no overclocking options in the BIOS, so 180W should be adequate given the only other components are an NVME SSD. potentially a 3.5inch SATA drive, and whatever's powered from USB; I'm sure they've set the power limits accordingly.

Any good to use as NAS?

Dont always have plans to keep it on but mainly at weekends thinking about power usage

Depends how many drives you want. Has one M.2 NVME slot, and only one 3.5 inch internal bay. There are two SATA headers as some models come with an optical drive, but don't know how many power connectors.

Unsure if I should buy this, not as clued up as I used to be. Anyone be willing to take a look at my spec and advise if it would be a huge upgrade or not?

Here's a comparison of the CPU:
    cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…310

You have 8gb RAM in your current system, so would want to upgrade that as this only comes with 4gb.

You have a lot of drives connected to your current system - don't know if they are internal or external, but you can only fit one extra drive in the case of this Lenovo machine.

Your existing system doesn't officially support Windows 11 if that matters to you, but there's a few years yet until Windows 10 stops getting updates and lots of people prefer Windows 10 anyway.
