Heads down, everyone. Here come the 8GB haters

(Hot news, 8GB is perfectly OK on these for the average user)

Ram isn't expensive and it's becoming a joke that Apple keeps doing this to their customers. It wouldn't be an issue if you were able to swap it out, but apple have stopped that by soldering the ram to the motherboard. 8gb is probably fine for now, but it's about future proofing your purchase.

1GB was plenty enough for the ipad air because iOS was soooo efficient. The following year they introduced split screen multitasking which could not run on it because not enough memory.

Don't buy minimum spec when it can't be upgraded. Apple is expensive and you will always get shafted trying to save money with them. Go all the way or don't go at all. (edited)

There are far better specs mini PC from those minisforum type companies with room for upgrade... macs are good but only if you can spend couple of thousands every 5 years or so.

having 8GB of RAM will kill your SSD fast due to swapping if u ever come close to using 8.. pls stay away. 2GB is used for OS only.

With Starfield coming in at 100gb+, you’ll be lucky to squeeze in two AAA games on this.
    Open_YourMind's avatar
You ain't playing starfield on this regardless

Really decent machine and decent price on this.

Just super disappointing that Apple charge so much for the higher spec models with more ram etc, the prices for that are insane, yet the price for this is so damn good.

I guess the reason why is because 8gb is enough for most people and anyone else is doing something a little more specialist and therefore Apple wants to charge them the mega bucks, but it's still painful as someone typing this on a 2015 iMac and wondering when I will upgrade and how much it's going to cost, hopefully Apple will release better versions in the future. Same here -- still running a 2015 MBA with 8GB RAM. Definitely won't be side-grading to another 8GB RAM Mac. If they at least had the decency to make the SSD replaceable, I could try and overlook it -- but with soldered storage, I'm not risking it becoming a paperweight from excessive writes due to swap space. I already see how much RAM MacOS eats and it's enough to justify making 16GB the standard.

If I was a cynic I'd think you were just trying to impress us . Anyway, this is a deal for the 8GB version so I'm not sure how impressive that really is.

M3 incoming by end of the year I hope. These to steadily go down in price 🤞

Steady like a rock on a flat surface? These will get a discount then stay there. Apple is saturating the market for these devices at a much faster rate than with iPhones. They're unlikely to maintain the same cadence for future M# updates. So, the current ranges will sit around the same price point, as they won't be getting regularly superseded by newer generations. They'll all bob around near the maximum price gauging possible with infrequent shifts down as new tiers are added.

Excellent piece of kit. I use the mini now instead of full Mac. Allows for custom screens and peripherals. Excellent value for money.

One of these would pretty much finish off my Apple ecosystem. I’m a long time windows user though. Tempting
