Worst mistake of my DIY career buying a cheap chop saw

Yeah I saw the positive reviews, yeah I calibrated it a million times

It ruined so much of my work, for whatever reason, the unit I had kept going out of alignment, sent it back 3 times, bought higher toothed blades, did everything I should have done to ensure a nice square cut

But after 3 returns from a warranty repair, the unit would cut fine for about a week then revert back, it would be just a mm or 2 out

You don't think it's a lot, but on long cuts and doing frames, you always end up with big old mitre gaps

Finally invested in a £400 dewalt saw and the difference is night and day, if you are doing finer internal work dont buy one

If your framing or for outdoors stuff this would be OK, but deep search on the forums you will see loads of people complaining about the same thing

I spent 2 3 years blaming myself until finally last week a friend let me borrow his one, felt such a relief to know it wasn't me this whole time

They say a good workman never blames his tools, maybe back then when they use to make things of good quality and to last

But the kind of tolerances on these just bugged my OCD

Not worth it in my opinion

    Yes and no imo.

I have this and a dewalt sliding saw.

Yes the dewalt is nicer to use and the evolution has been retired to the loft for metal cutting only now but once calibrated, both cut equally as accurately.

Unless the saw is in a fixed position permanently, it will likely need recalibration occasionally if you are after almost less than mm precision.

The Evolution is a fantastic entry level mitre saw and the fact the blade cuts anything is a real bonus.

I wouldn't bother with 110v though for a home user but these are well worth the £50-60 you can get them for new occasionally.

Very clearly called out in title and description, but people are dumb. And yes, I did this once. I am people. I am dumb.

Got one need to find a good stepdown transformer probably the one which supports 1500w to be on safer side.
    Cheers

Let me know when you find one..I am finding stuff but I don't understand the ratings. Have bought it anyway as I think it would be difficult to get one at this price.

I have the 240V version at fifty quid a while back, much easier to store and lug around than the bigger stuff. The clamp is crap so was chucked and you can cut thicker, wider than suggested in the advert once it is removed, and/or turn the wood around if it is too wide for one cut. I think brill for the money for small projects, such as building furniture, but the sliding ones would be better if you were doing, say, a loft conversion.

You can also use a sacrificial piece under the piece to cut, to raise it up a bit, which will give you a bit more width on the cut too

Cheers, worth a punt for £36 for a small project I have to do. Already have a transformer from getting a makita angle grinder warehouse deal a couple of years ago by mistake that was 110V and decided to just buy a transformer instead of returning it

EDIT: Actually I just cancelled it, it's a bit small. Only 125mm cuts. I need at least 150mm for the wood I'll be using. (edited)

bought to help with the other miter saws i have that are on 110V (and at 36 quid this one can be used as the work horse until it dies and save the dewalt unless fine cuts are needed)

bought this the last time 30% was on, probably around this price. not used it yet and plan on just leaving it in the garage purely for metal i think. I did notice it was 110 but some kind contractors at work left a transformer behind a while ago, may aswel make use of it And as a side note the blade it comes with is worth £25, has to be a bargain

Watch out - a 110v step down (used for US appliances for example) won't work, the 110v site standard is actually 2 x 55v - you will need one of the big yellow jobbies for £50 or so
