I have laptop and iphone - the deal looks fab and I always see other people using it. I really want to buy it but not sure how an ipad would fit in my everyday life. What do you use ipad for that it is better than iphone and laptop?
    doesitmatter's avatar
General rule - if you are unsure of whether you need it, then you don’t need it.
We had one and was mostly used for youtube, netflix. And kids used for games.

Great price, and I actually like AO as a retailer, I've not had a bad experience yet,

I had a laptop from AO.. box was battered on delivery.. seals were broken, laptop was clearly used.. took a LOT of arguing for AO to even take it back and then took 3 further calls to get my money back. So imo possibly a great retailer.. until there’s a problem, and then not a great retailer

    Great Price. Brilliant Product.

How many can one person/account/membership buy??

3x of these (iPad 9th gen), much better value than 1 x iPad Pro 11” M1 2tb from Costco for £799 - which was still a mega deal. I have one of each. — Quick Review — Both reload browser pages, but Pro much less so. - Both work same with Pencil, Pro’s laminated screen feels little more solid (less hollow). - Pro inability to split onscreen keyboard is daft Apple design decision - even my large hands struggle to cover width of Pro’s 11” keyboard in landscape orientation, and narrow screen edge means many more typing mistakes, especially the tab key. - Pro’s sound much better, especially in landscape (more bass/complete, but not much if any extra volume). - Pro’s usb-c connection awesome for Monitor connection (stage manager), BUT Charges the Battery and leaves it at 100% (against Apple Storage Advice for battery longevity), this my biggest complaint, WHY DESTROY Battery Prematurely, they should know by now. - Pro with 2tb storage, almost impossible to use, without severe crippling limitations, or a whole collection of 2tb Apple products along with iCloud+ 2tb Sync Service (video editing with luma, and Microsoft 365 OneDrive, might be options/workarounds, but why need a workaround, why not have multiple Photo Libraries, with option To Sync or Not To Sync each one). - Delay waiting for onscreen keyboard same on both, disappointing. Performance in general, for most daily tasks, same on both (bar browser tab reloads). - Pro’s promotion 120hz does nothing for me, both have beautiful Retina Screen - I was raised on 72dpi Mac Screens, with font’s only looking halfway nice at a few default sizes (9, 10, 12, 18, 24, 36, 72pt, etc.). - Audio connector on iPad 9th Gen should be mandatory in my view. - Pro’s wireless Pencil much more practical, and nicer texture to hold. - Pro’s ‘Tap Screen’ to wake awesome, Face ID unreliable on Pro, made worse which case as camera & volume controls on wrong side in landscape orientation, and need to uncover with hand. - 9th easier to hold and type in landscape, older iPad Air 2 (9.7” even easier). - iPad Pro and 9th better build quality than newer iPad Air M1 which flexes, and has screen image pixel collapse (distortion, smearing) when used with Pencil. - Pro 5x Studio Mics slightly better quality, but no match for separate recorder or mic. - Pro’s LIDAR camera is a gimmick for making 3d models of objects, but still very impressive, just not a finished feature yet. - For most users, I think Pencil is a waste (how anyone takes notes in real life with it I have no idea, and I cant draw for toffee), and same thought for Magic Case Keyboards, just get Logitech K380 and Pebble Mouse if needed. - SUMMARY, Pro’s may be worth 50% more money (list prices), but not 100% or more, thus opinion for most daily uses (browsing, email, streaming, writing, basic photo editing), iPad 9th Gen best choice.

Older, 5th and 6th gen iPad, only have 2gb RAM, like the original iPad Air 2 - this is limiting, 4gb is better. - iPad 9th gen has 3gb, Air 4gb, Pro 8/16gb. (edited)

The iPad if you pay for membership is £279, £20 less than the next best price, plus you have the membership for a year and what comes with it. Depends on how you look at it really
  9. 2015's avatar
Topcashback for 1% and chase account for 1%

    Thanks OP

Looks like the 5 star membership automatically renews so watch out for that!

Also have to phone up to cancel annoyingly. (edited)

I've brought white goods from ao service was great/delivery was great, I don't see the point in the membership though as I would buy again once I need new good but I expect that to be at least 5 years, AO can't have that many frequent customers...
    2015's avatar
That’s what I thought. Was previously looking for a fridge freezer and had a special membership price so was tempted to sign up. However, how often are people buying goods from AO to make it worthwhile?

This offer was handy as it was cheapest for iPad and membership thrown in which makes my fridge purchase cheaper.

You do also get the removal/recycle and packages taken away. But I’m only buying 1 fridge a year.

Great if you are just moving somewhere and buying everything from AO but then I’m guessing you’re not getting the best value overall.

So can I take membership buy this then cancel it ?
    chrismjspencer's avatar
Cancellation of MembershipYou can cancel your AO Five Star membership at any time by contacting us on 0161 235 0563 (8am-7pm Monday-Friday (Sales open at 8.30am) and 8am-5pm at weekends). Your cancellation will take effect from the anniversary of your last payment, and your membership benefits will end from that date.

Cooling off period – changing your mind

Your statutory ‘cooling off period’ is the 14-day period from when you initially sign-up to an AO Five Star Membership. If you change your mind during the ‘cooling off period’, you can cancel your membership and receive a full refund. If you have used any membership benefits by the point you choose to cancel we may issue you a partial refund by deducting the price of any benefit you would have had to pay for had you not been an AO Five Star member (e.g. the delivery charge or a Remove & Recycle charge). If the value of the benefits you have already used at the point you cancel exceed the price of the membership, you will not be eligible for any refund of the membership fee.If you cancel during the ‘cooling off period’, you’ll no longer have access to any of the AO Five Star benefits with immediate effect.

Thank you very much. Just bought this for my Wife who was looking for a reasonably priced upgrade on her 2017 Ipad. Had to sign up for the AO thing but we are looking to move away from buying from Amazon so perfect timing and a much better returns policy!

Do they post to Northern Ireland
    franspence's avatar
We are excluded as per usual...

Never heard of AO having a paid for membership. Why would anyone want that? What a load of nonsense.
    A_Stars's avatar
The membership is nonsense, but it's the only way to get the iPad at the cheapest price. So it's worth it.
  23. Ligand's avatar
I will probably lose my membership for sharing, but managing to split the cost of joining ao program
    Crossbow's avatar
How do you share a membership please, if goods are being delivered to different addresses?
Doesn't seem like Amazon Prime, where one can do it legitimately with one other household without risk. (edited)

Next time there is a deal like this we need a local parents collective to sort this out.
Our kids (no manchester accent) school are in some iPad scheme for homework and this would have been perfect.
If i was smarter and quicker i would have got a bunch of parents together and sorted this out for us all. (edited)

Is this worth the upgrade from an iPad 6th gen? Started to notice more issues with multi-tab browsing lately and it tends to get a bit toasty.
    2015's avatar
I’ve just upgraded my 5th gen. It was having a bit of a hissy fit 6 months ago. I removed everything I could to get the storage down. It now runs ok but not amazing.

Took the plunge as it’ll only get worse and I’ve had it 5 years.

I suppose the question to ask yourself is do you think in 2 years time you will be able to upgrade for £300.
  29. grrjkr's avatar
Does this work with Apple Pencil ?
    TheBigShort's avatar
Yes, Apple Pencil 1, either old discontinued 1st or newer 2nd versions, difference being, was without or now with Bundled USB-C adaptor.

Not work with Apple Pencil 2 tho. The magnetic one, with flat side, and NO cap hiding lightening connector. (edited)
  30. 2015's avatar
Is there a 3rd party pencil you can use for this? I seem to remember someone mentioning one from Amazon a while back.

Anyone know if the below is any good? Reviews look good!

Deal for Prime members: Metapen Pencil A8 Compatible iPad 2018-2022, 2X Faster Charge, Palm Rejection, Tilt Sensitivity Stylus Pencil Compatible Apple iPad 6th~9th Gen iPad Pro 12.9/11'' iPad Air 3rd-5th iPad Mini 5th/6th amzn.eu/d/h…Taj (edited)
    TheBigShort's avatar
Looses PRESSURE SENSITIVITY on 3rd party pencils.

if operating finicky sliders for photo processing, or highlighting text, no issue. BUT for ‘pro create’ painting, or calligraphy, NEEDs pressure control. (edited)

I’m looking at buying a tablet, have used an 11" chromebook for uni but want something touchscreen. What do people recommend? Not for HEAVY-DUTY work, but post-grad stuff. I saw 11" touchscreen 2-in-1s advertised quite cheap, but are those better than android tablets?
  34. TheBigShort's avatar

£200 off some TV’s for members. Don’t like that you have to phone to cancel though.
  36. Jayceemonk's avatar
Doesn’t post to Northern Ireland… even though I’ve purchased and had delivered major items previously from AO. 😳
  37. spankwilder's avatar
…. Hmmm, if these membership deals are the new norm, suggest the leading price be available to everyone or at least a separate price near the header.. this a bit like a cheap used car sale where they stick an admin fee onto the screen price
    Crossbow's avatar
'... or at least a separate price near the header..'
It says IN the header... £239 (AO Member Price) / £278.99 New Member Price / £319 Without
All the options clearly mentioned. (edited)
  38. Robloxian's avatar
It's a decent price but it's 2 years old now...

Who would like to go halves on membership?
    Crossbow's avatar
I'd like to, however something to note that might make it impossible for strangers to combine, so try to rope in a trusted family member / friend.
    From ao.com/hel…-cs
"Your AO Five Star membership is personal to you, this means that you can’t share or transfer it (or any of the individual benefits including discounts) to anyone else.
AO can take any action we consider appropriate, including removing or suspending AO Five Star Membership, if we have reason to believe you are abusing the membership service or offers."

Also preferably in the same town/city perhaps, so it's easy to have items picked up or delivered from/to each other's houses instead of posting out - large appliances could be a right hassle! You might get away with adding your sharer's address as the delivery address, but then again it could backfire if they suspect one is sharing.
