My friend has recently had a 'free' upgrade by BT Broadband to Voip handsets that works through their hub. I'm guessing this type of analogue conventional cordless will be redundant in a few short years, hence all the offers to clear stock?

Most of them will work fine if you plug them into the router or VOIP adapter that replaces your traditional landline.

One problem with modern land lines is a power cut takes them out. Still at that price it's hot. ☎️

Not if you plug your router into a UPS.
