New Materials for a Better AeroPress Considering an upgrade? All of the AeroPress parts except the silicone seal and the paper filters have been made of polypropylene since July of 2014. We switched to using polypropylene because tests indicated the polypropylene is more durable than other materials we had previously used. Silicone is also extremely tough meaning the AeroPress is the now the most durable it has ever been. Materials used in the AeroPress are free of BPA and phthalates, are made in the USA.

What's in the box?

My latest Aeropress from a couple of weeks ago came with a large sticker on the side, and now I can't get rid of the sticky glue residue!
    DonnyBrago's avatar
Yeah mine too, the QR code lol.

I got mine off by filling with boiling water before attempting to remove it, peeled off in one go.

Even with the add-ons, you're never going to get a great espresso out of an Aeropress. A great cup of coffee, absolutely but not a great espresso.
Still probably the best value coffee item you'll ever buy though!
    markgh's avatar
It can't make espresso, but it can make a small very strong coffee that's fine for use in milky drinks like lattes. The difference is probably not noticeable or important to a lot of people.

Highly recommended. If you're the sort of person who doesn't really like instant but drinks it because everything else is a faff, this is for you. Throw out that Cafetiere you keep having to scoop grounds out of and unscrew and clean the filter on, this is MUCH easier, you just pop out the disc of grounds into the bin and rinse the end off. Super easy. You also don't get the gritty sludge at the bottom of your cup. (edited)

Had one years. Just took it to Silverstone and now got it with me in Greece. Amazing kit but have to make sure you’ve got decent coffee and the right grind!

I just use the Costco kirkland columbian coffee that comes in a massive tin for about £12. Tastes fine and works well for aeropress.

Which coffee is recommended guys? Lavazza Rosso? Or any other options? Thank you

Heat! Think this is the older model, plus side is it comes with a few hundred filter papers etc.

Company got sold fairly recently, new owners starting to release a lot more aeropress products, including a clear one. Sounds like they’ve gotten tighter on cost controls and skimped out on what’s included in the box.

The problem I had with the Aeropress was having to have a mug big enough so that it doesn't all come out the side when applying pressure.

They released the "flow control filter cap" (at the same price as the aeropress itself!) which is a replacement cap which makes the coffee come out of a rubber hole like a Lucozade Sport lid. It's a game-changer and definitely makes less mess. You than then also use it with pretty much any mug. Worth the upgrade if you're using this long term

Didn't you get the funnel with yours, it's for smaller diameter cups

Aeropress coffee maker: boiling water in contact with plastic and paper 😬 Vietnamese style coffee drip: boiling water in contact with stainless steel. I know which I prefer

Erm aren't most electric kettles made out of plastic? So what point are you trying to make? (edited)

Yes but thats before, this is now. It was £7.95 free with a bag coffee last week.

I use this as much as my Gaggia classic, often available for around £10:

These are specifically for Vietnamese coffee and are absolutely no replacement for the Aeropress. I have both among other coffee making items

I can see from the screen shot that you even searched for 'Vietnamese coffee maker' Alex (edited)

I have a prosumer espresso machine, a v60, a French press, a clever dripper, a few other dripper devices and yet the yet the AeroPress is still one of the best of them all.

This is a fantastic piece of kit for the price. Just make sure you buy good coffee to go with it from your local independent coffee shop

For more aeropress geekery. James Hoffman (a man who knows a lot about coffee) has a great YouTube series on it.

I have Gaggia Classic Pro, Moka pot, v60, French Press, and Aeropress. If I could only keep one, it would be the Aeropress. So easy to use, easy to clean, easy to travel with.
  14. Patrick_Christian's avatar
Really recommend the aeropress, easy to use and clean, doesn't take up much space and makes a decent cup of coffee
  15. Neal_Paton's avatar
Have one of these in the office when I go in. I get a few questions and tell people it's a caffeine bong
  16. dfunked's avatar
Love mine. It's just so much easier to clean than a french press. A quick tap to empty it into the food waste and then rinse. Cups are so much cleaner afterwards too (more oil caught in the filter I guess)
    Wolfylee's avatar
The cleanup was the reason I didn't buy it for about fifteen years - thought it was bound to be a big faff with coffee grounds everywhere.

As you said though, it just couldn't be easier and no mess at all.

Onyone recommend alternative filter papers or is it best to stick to the orignal branded ones, is there a metal one that is as fine as the paper ones?

I bought a portable Coffee and espresso maker from Lidl which worked fine for me when I went camping recently. It has a built stainless steel filter as well as a cup and you can grind your own beans with it but I prefer ground. Quick and easy to use for that lovely filter coffee in the morning.

I saw that and was intrigued! How's the coffee from it?

There's no way it makes espresso though.

My favourite gadget. nearly obsessed with it. Coffee without sugar is an incredible thing for some of us.
I would recommend that item to anyone who loves coffee.
    markgh's avatar
I've known people go from drinking instant coffee with milk and sugar, all the way to drinking pure black coffee, just because it's made in an aeropress.

If you're someone who thinks coffee is bitter or tastes burnt, the aeropress could change your mind. Coffee can taste mild, fruity, chocolatey, juicy and sweet, without adding anything.

    Really good for quick coffee
  24. sumpter's avatar
As mentioned, not a proper espresso but makes a perfectly passable latte when combined with a frother (I use a Velvetiser).

Actually a better result than my DeLonghi Magnifica ESAM 4200 which I sold on once I tried the Aeropress

    Great bit ov kit..

Loved mine until it ‘warped’ which meant it always leaked .
  27. Ollie222's avatar
I too love my Aeropress. I've had one for many years and it finally started to get stress cracks in the sides so I replaced it with another about 12 months ago.

Use with good, freshly roasted, whole bean coffee and invest in a decent grinder (which sadly will cost a lot more than the Aeropress).
  28. GrahamFairham's avatar
Amazing piece of kit. Easy to brew, well made, had mine for years and still works flawlessly. Above all though an impressive coffee. It's not espresso, perfect for a robust coffee, which allows all the complex flavours to shine through.

Any recommendations for good cheap coffee for this? (Beginner here!)

Love my Aeropress. Once you get your amounts and methods dialed in I think it makes far better coffee than most high street and independent coffee shops. Would definitely recommend buying whole bean to use with it as others have said and go manual if you don't mind the mild workout. Much better results for the relative investments involved.

I got this one recently and it's pretty good and affordable and also very portable with the fold away crank. Make sure you tick the 10% voucher to get it for £67.50
