Yep can confirm it's identical to one of these as just picked one up form my local Wilkos and it has a Diamond Sold Secure rating

I seem to recall Magnum is another brand used by the makers of onguard.

So this lock could be the same as a pitbull, or one of onguard's other locks, or possibly a cheapened version that is not as secure.
If it is not officially sold secure or thatchum rated, the bike likely won't be covered by insurance.

It is sold secure rated see picture in my other post. (edited)

Looks like an Onguard Pitbull clone but not sold secure so avoid.

    That’s what I was thinking. It’s identical

    Rebranded Pitbull.

Once I learned the keyway needs maintained with oil for dreary, rainy UK I got on well with these as a bit of extra protection in the shed or for the odd trip to the shops.

As with all sub £100 bike locks don't lock up anything more than a Halfords/Argos runabout bike with them. This will be cut in less than 30 seconds if someone wants to cut it.

LPL did take a couple of full minutes to pick it though, which isn't bad!

Would be wise before starting using a new d-lock, to remove the shackle and put a drop of oil on the locking bolts too and turn the key a few times to work it over the bolts to prevent them corroding and seizing up, don't assume it was lubricated in the factory!

I bought a couple of bargain priced Kryptonite new york D-lock some years ago and the one I gave my dad seized up within a couple of weeks, fortunately not while locked around his bike, and was quite a job to get it open. I hadn't even realised mine was slightly stiff until I lubricated both locks. I used a clear mineral oil on the bolts (intended for lubricating chains). (edited)

Thanks, ordered for my new bike in Turkey. Where I have a holiday home they don’t normally lock their bikes up so should be fine

update: refunded as they were unable to fulfill order. (edited)

Rule of thumb is spend 10% of the bikes value on security, I suspect this is just a visual deterant

Looks to be a onguard lock which are usually solid secure gold

Once got told if the lock comes with 3 or more keys they tend to be decent (whether true or not who knows

My bike was stolen with 3x of this attached to bike stand + stored in cycle store in building with cctv… there is no lock for angle grinder

Only prob, it costs £250. And some bicycle racks are so thin a gauge of stainless steel tubing that they can be broken off without tools.

No sold secure rating. Probably useless.

Heat from me as I bagged the last two at Bradford
    The2Time's avatar
You'll need a bit more than one of these in Bradford

This looks like the OnGuard brute which was a sold secure gold but is now actually rated diamond. Id just spend the extra £10 or £15 and get the proper rated one tbh… not worth the risk
    melted's avatar
This one's shackle is the same size and diameter as the pitbull, the brute is thicker. (edited)

Wouldn't trust it, but sold out anyway. Probably a blessing in disguise.

2 available in Bradford atm if it helps anyone
Too far for me to warrant it

Not anymore... I just got both.

I think it's a decent deal but 65 miles away is the nearest and I don't drive and it's a bit far by bike! (edited)
  17. Fast.Eddie's avatar
Has nobody yet come up with a lock that is unbreakable? Titanium maybe or electrified?
    melted's avatar
Well, there is one that releases vomit inducing noxious gas, but if you were to use one in the UK, it wouldn't be your bike that would get securely locked up!

Really, there's not much point in anything stronger than the angle grinder resistant ones mentioned above, because thieves could cut the stand instead. (edited)
