Bit of a reminder here, Vodafone offer the cheapest social tariff on the market, and have just added another, though not sure how competitive this one is, it's £20pm for 73Mb, but maybe can be had cheaper via gift cards etc.

Vodafone Essentials Broadband is a reliable and affordable service. It costs just £12 a month, with download speeds of up to 38Mbps, or £20 per month with speeds of 73Mbps, to help you stay connected during difficult times.

Who can get Vodafone Essentials Broadband?

Anyone receiving one of the following state benefits can get the service:

  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Universal Credit
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Existing Vodafone customers that have been identified as financially vulnerable can also get the service.

I have another Vodafone broadband package. Can I get Essentials Broadband?
Current subscribers of either Vodafone Superfast 1 or Superfast 2 broadband, and who meet any of the criteria listed above, can move to Vodafone Essentials Broadband. Current subscribers of a Pro Broadband plan may be charged to leave (https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Joining-leaving/Leaving-Vodafone/1481779052/What-s-an-early-termination-fee.htm) their plan early.

What are the other benefits of Vodafone Essentials Broadband?
There’s no set-up fee and there’s the certainty that there won’t be any in-contract price changes. Customers can also leave at any time, with no early termination fees. The service lasts for 12 months.

What happens after 12 months?
After 12 months you can continue your Vodafone Essentials contract, as long as you still qualify for one or more of the listed government benefits and the plan is still available. If not, you can choose one of our standard broadband plans or leave without charge. We will contact you with your options before your contract ends. If no action is taken, you will move to out-of-contract pricing of £22 a month.

How can I sign up for Vodafone Essentials Broadband?
Visit the Vodafone UK website to sign up for Vodafone Essentials Broadband (https://www.vodafone.co.uk/broadband/essentials-broadband). There, you’ll be able to check whether Vodafone can provide broadband in your postcode area. Once you’ve completed and submitted the online form, you’ll receive a confirmation email. A member of Vodafone’s dedicated team will call you to confirm your eligibility and process your order. This should take about a week.

Alternatively, visit a Vodafone UK store or call our customer service team (https://support.vodafone.co.uk/?usertype=Consumer).

What if I need help paying the bills?
If you’ve missed a payment or are struggling to pay your next bill, please contact Vodafone’s customer care team (https://support.vodafone.co.uk/?usertype=Consumer) and we’ll figure things out together.

I have a disabled relative currently with them (in contract), only just finding out about the social tariffs, and it seems they would qualify from the benefits listed above. Is it possible to change from current package to social one? do they need to wait until their current contract is up? Anyone tried to switch to this package from a regular one?

Vodafone will usually drop the early exit fee if changing to a social tariff.

I'm with them for fibre to the property. When it works it's fine. But much like virgin, if anything at all goes wrong you are in for a world of pain getting it sorted.

Hyperoptic's Social Tariff plans are good if you can get them.
They offer symmetric 50Mbps or 150Mbps plans: the upload speed is as fast as the download speed. Vodafone's 38Mbps plan only offers 9Mbps upload.

ISPreview has a guide summarizing speeds, pricing, and availability for most all UK internet providers offering social tariffs, updated this month: ispreview.co.uk/ind…tml

avoid these set of b*stards if you can. Put our contract up double to over 50 pounds and not been able to speak to anyone about it for over 2 hours of trying.

BT do a social tariff for 20 pounds which includes unlimited calls to landline and mobile. Customer service is excellent too.

Good deal but BT are much more restrictive on who qualifies, generally NOT if you are on PIP, vodaphone allow PIP

After over two years with them we left this year due to poor service. They told us it was operreach’s fault but i’ll never know. We’re now happily with community fibre. Rock solid and faster broadband! Cheaper than vodafone too.

Does any1 know if you need to be named account holder and in receipt of the qualifying benefit? I have a child on Disability Living allowance so it would be great if I qualify. Vodafone customer services were useless and kept asking me to complete the online form which asks for account holder name and that will be the name they do the checks on I presume.... And nowhere could I add that it's my daughter who qualifies. Thought I'd ask here as others may have family members who qualify and have tried getting this with Voda (I'm already with them for broadband and mobile SIM)
