I had an absolutely terrible time using a multicooker to make rice; hoping this lives up to the hype, but I guess it's a lot less expensive even if it doesn't.

I've got one of these. It's great. Perfect rice every time.

These are brilliant. Don’t try cooking popcorn in it though. You tube lies.

Get a Pyrex dish put a cup full of rice in followed by 2 cups of boiling water. Microwave on full power uncovered for about 16 mins. Perfect rice everytime (edited)

Why do you need this? I just leave it in the packet and cook it for 2mins, normally turns out pretty good

    Packet rice? Yuk
This is for cooking raw dry rice with water, properly.

Just bought one. I cook rice on the hob almost daily as my other half is coeliac and its his preferred carb. Hopefully this will save me some time!
    Thank you op (edited)

I've tried microwave rice cooker, breadmaker maker rice settings, pressure coker rice cooking, plus electric rice cooker, and none of it worked for me, rice was always too hard, no matter how long I cooked it for. Now I cook rice in a pan with water, bring to boil, put on the lid and turn down to minimum heat (simmer) for 15 minutes. This gives me perfect rice every time without it boiling over. (edited)

Eh? Takes about the same amount of time on the hob

Microwave will be cheaper than running a gas hob

Just be aware that it's one of the Non-Returnable items sold by Amazon, and looks like you'll have to work out the exact timings and water/rice ratios to suit your particular microwave. It's too large for some microwaves, so check the dimensions as you may not be able to return it easily.

One cup of rice (2 portions), two cups of water, 11 minutes in 900W micro once the rice is properly washed and yes, OP, it changed my life!

Yep, it'll be cheaper and less efficient on a gas hob, more expensive but more efficient in the microwave. For me, it's a little treat to use this rice cooker as it works so well every time. Good price, have some (microwaved or gas-fired) heat!

No need, I just use Aldi long grain, two parts water to rice, rinse, in covered small pan then an hour on a very low light. Perfect every time.
    Aaron_Lee37's avatar
    An hour to cook rice?

This is a very good rice cooker. Even Chinese people say so.

Follow the instructions and these work great
  18. maac56's avatar
I've had one for a few years , works very well and I would recommend it at this price.

    Nice find Op !

Just hand wash it. I find if you dish washer, you get a washing tablet flavour from it being in the microwave so long.
    zel69's avatar
Have you tried the clothes washer?
  20. rudeboypeter's avatar
I’ve persevered with this and the results are mediocre at best. Instead of fluffy grains, you end up with a big glutinous block of rice, all stuck together. Edible and slightly easier, but for decent rice I’m back to the hob.
    whats_the_deal's avatar
Have you tried giving it a shake when most of the water is gone? I have a rice cooker, but tired of waiting 30 minutes + for rice to cook.
  21. sakurah106's avatar
    Ordered thank you
  22. PAG0809's avatar
These are brilliant and buying rice in huge bags is much much cheaper!
  23. smallandsweet's avatar
I got caught up on this last time it came up.
Followed instructions and rice wasn’t cooked.
Haven’t tried since so in this house prob won’t see the cooker - or a crucial part of it ever again.
Please help oh wise ones who have this, do you specifically misalign the vents?
    Thanks in advance x
    fishwibbler's avatar
Yes you do have to misalign the vents.
  24. Woody711's avatar
    Thanks O.P. ordered
  25. TheCostOfLies's avatar
This was brilliant until about a year in, where it just completely melted in the microwave.

TAKE HEED OF MY WARNING. THESE THINGS DO NOT WORK.

I spent three years trying to wrestle with a microwave rice cooker - with my first proper pay cheque, I bought a PROPER rice cooker. And have never looked back since.
    Headnogood's avatar
Microwave wrestling? Do you have a YouTube channel? I need to see this to believe it.
