Product Description
Google's Nest Hub Max provides help for the home. It lets you connect with others easily, view streamed entertainment and your Google Photos on its 10” HD screen, and control your smart home devices, all in one view. It keeps an eye on home security with the built-in Nest Cam, and, of course, you have all the hands-free help of the Google Assistant.
Connect with others
You can make video calls to friends and family, and with auto-framing, the camera keeps you in view as you move about the room, so you can multi-task.* You can leave video messages for each other on Nest Hub Max, and send them to other compatible devices.
Connect with multiple people
It's easy to connect with multiple people at once on Nest Hub Max. Whether you want to catch up with family and friends with Google Duo, or host a meeting using Google Meet, it has you covered (to make video calls and leave video messages, Google Duo accounts are required for you and the recipient. A Google account is required to use Google Meet.)
Your Google Photos in a new light
Use your voice to show any of your pictures in Google Photos. With Recent Highlights, it can automatically show the best of the latest photos you've taken. Ambient EQ automatically adjusts settings to optimally display them depending on surrounding décor and brightness. (Google Photos required, the live albums feature is not available in all areas).

sorted byI bought several Lenovo smart displays for my family to use for video calls during lockdown. Although at first glance they seem almost identical to the Google devices, they run a completely different operating system (Android Things) which Google deprecated some time ago. In April 2022, a new software release introduced a nasty echo on video calls. It's particularly bad if two Lenovo devices are on the same video call as the echo turns into an infinite loop of noise. The bug has never been fixed and Google has since announced that there will be no more updates for third party (mainly Lenovo and JBL) smart displays.
The Nest Hub Max doesn't have this issue but it does have a separate bug which prevents the built-in Nest camera being used as a security camera - I've just tried it now to confirm.
I suppose if there's a lesson to be learned from any of this waffle, it's that Google can't really be trusted to support products properly for very long.
I could not justify £200 at that time for a Hub Max. Got one for free from my broadband provider, sold it for £150 2 years ago.
Given the RRP, this is a reasonable price.
But I still don't get it how this is not under £100 after nearly 4 years from its release. Had the smaller version (obviously not a match) as freebie, £24 with mini Nest included, and £29. I don't get it how this is so much better to be worth this price... (edited)
So this is the same one on Google store for £219 correct ?
The speaker in the Max is pretty good. I wouldn't choose to listen to music on the smaller version but it's fine as a bedroom radio or for speech. The lack of a camera makes the smaller hub unsuitable for video calls, which is some people's primary use for these things.
