is the now router any better ? when i was with them it was rotten ...
    sherlock747's avatar
It's not great. I swapped mine out immediately for the SKY SR203 router I picked up on ebay, much better.

I have NOW Broadband as a proposed stop gap solution. New builds going up next to me and the fibre has been laid in my street, in fact it comes right up to a box underground at the foot of my driveway. I can't connect to it until all the properties in the new estate are connected, approximately by March 2024 but maybe earlier. So I'm using NOW Broadband as they offer 12 month plans. I connected in March 2023 and so far it has been fine. My previous connection where I used to live was 500Mb, so I am eager to get back to far better speeds but that is at the mercy of the local infrastructure.

I get 38Gb which is about the max the connection can do.
    The router is NR801
Dynamic DNS services supported by this router are dyndns.org, no-ip.com and dyns.cx

Regular disconnections are around 01:30 am, maybe for updates/maintenance. Current router firmware version is Firmware Version 4.33.0200.R (no information about this anywhere online)

Even though I connected in March my connection was still eligible for the increased broadband fees, which is shocking but industry standard BS practice. (edited)

What about router? Better than Vodafone?
    KodaBear's avatar
Now Broadband router's are pretty outdated these days, and to make it worse they don't support you using your own router like most others providers allow.

Vodafone's router is far from great. but it is better than this. 4 Ethernet ports vs 2. Longer WiFi range. More customisation support etc.

Can existing now customers take this offer?
    sherlock747's avatar
    Phone them up and ask.

I contacted them regarding the price increase last month (still in contract) and was given this offer for the next 12 months
    kharma45's avatar
Wouldn’t do it for us. Best they’d do was £23 so cancelled and signed up in my name instead of hers.

I took a similar deal last July, £90 cashback (via TopCashback) tracked no problem (albeit in Jan)
    jco83's avatar
Yes you need to be with them for 6 months so the cashback takes 6-7 months to come through

Bit of a random question for anyone who had signed up for Nowtv. Do you have phone as well? If so do you know if they now use voip calls like Sky? Im with sky but tried to tranfser to Nowtv when I was out of contract and was told Nowtv don't support voip calls so I couldnt switch. Thanks in advance.
    KodaBear's avatar
This does include a phoneline but no calling plan, however they are still on the legacy POTS system using the copper wire. Their broadband is also only available as ADSL or VDSL only - No FTTP (Full Fibre) like Sky offer in some areas if you happen to have this.

I Don't believe it's possible to migrate your number backwards once already on digital voice. So you would have to go to another provider who supports this, or wait for Now TV to do it.

If you have a Lloyds Bank account you can activate an offer for £30 cashback as well. Also if with O2 airtime rewards money back there at the moment.
    Trickydic's avatar
Where did you find this Lloyds offer? Is it account specific do you think?
  10. kidrock123's avatar
    Been with Now Broadband previously.

No issues with reliability and cashback tracked straightaway.
  11. score01's avatar
I’ve had this previously and is a cracking deal when taking the cash back into account.  Router is on par with a sky one - Wi-Fi range not the best in the world.
    sherlock747's avatar
That's because the router is a Sky on (same company). You can get a better upgrade by buying the Sky SR203 router from ebay.

I've got some tenda nova mw6 mesh WiFi cubes, anyone used these or similar with the Now router? Any issues?
    CatsWithThumbs's avatar
I use a different mesh with sky router which is the same, with no issues. A couple of points though...

You cannot set the now/sky router to modem-only mode, best you can do is just disable the WiFi.

You will then have to set the mesh system to (I think) access point mode or equivalent so that they do not attempt any routing function, and leave that to the Now router.

Can you get quidco/TCB if you have been a customer in the past (but not at present)?

Edit. aha found it on tcb/uswitch info page - you need to have left more than 2 years ago to be eligible for Now BB cashback on TCB/Uswitch (edited)
    JonnyH2's avatar
It says it's only 12 months now on Quidco...

Is 63Mbps and 36Mbps "Super Fibre? What a misleading marketing just to get people signing up.

For comparasan I have 1Gbps and the price was £30/month when I took the contract.

    Didn't vote regardless.
    Chigz_'s avatar
36Mpbs and 63Mbps will be around for a long time, even after most are on full fibre.

I know a lot of people who are like you don’t need 150Mbps, or XMbps… and that it’s all marketing. It’s funny really.

I cannot wait for the day that 36Mbps and 63Mbps are replaced by the lower tier full fibre plans; 100, 150 or whatever the lowest is there.

Been with them 5 months no problemo, Cashback of £90 paid out after 3 months well chuffed!
  16. jco83's avatar
Topcashback is higher for the Fab broadband than it is for the Super broadband FYI

Is this Now fibre fttc or fttp?
    Optimus_Toaster's avatar
    FTTC
  19. rustyfrog's avatar
With the above in mind, is it possible to get 63mbps using fttc?
    jd84's avatar
Yes if your line is not too long you can get up to 80mbps (edited)
  20. Zameen's avatar
If you don't have bt line do they charge for install?
    KodaBear's avatar
As long as you take the 12 month contract they will install for free.

How to get this deal as a current user please? I can sign-up with a different account details but as soon as I enter telephone number , it asks me to login.

    Any help is appriciated
    sherlock747's avatar
Are you within contract? Try ringing them up.

Bear in mind when I had a problem now couldn’t care less and would not send engineer out, their customer service is absolutely awful, be warned!
    kharma45's avatar
fwiw I've had the opposite experience the two times I needed an engineer out - the team were pretty helpful and we had an Openreach engineer out with 48h.

My price shot up to£27.50, will see if I can switch to this

I did, give them a call.
  24. sherlock747's avatar
Glad to see the prices are coming down again. They recently put mine up to £25, although that does include free calls.
    discount4cash's avatar
How long ago was it you got free calls now want £30
  25. Fuzzy-Dunlop's avatar
Been with them for 3 years, anytime calls and 80/20 fibre. Usually renew around this price every year, just ring in and they will match for existing customers. Recently put mine up to £25, will be looking to move to faster fibre speeds when contract up in a couple of months. Hopefully find a good deal around Black Friday.

Service wise, gone down a handful of times in 3 years, usually overnight/early hours. Longest was around 6 hours I think?. I do use my own ubiquiti router and access points though, so can't comment on their issued routers, most ISP issued routers are rubbish for Wi-Fi anyway in my experience.

Looking for something I can cancel in two months so I can rejoin Virgin as a new customer. I dunno why my bill doubled with Virgin just because I'm not new, I've been with them since 2007 and never had an issue. All of a sudden now they want almost 70 quid :/

Scum of a company. Got an email Quote

"We wanted to remind you that your NOW Broadband Membership is out of contract, and let you know what your options are.
To help you decide which one is right for you, we've put together this handy summary.
Do nothing and continue with your existing membership.
You're currently paying £23.00 a month and this will change to £26.50 a month by 12/07/23."

So we 'did nothing' and got a bill for £46.00.

I contacted them. Now they won't even honour their own email increased offer of £26.50. They want £31.00 but still haven't done anything about the £46.00.

My inlaws had the same email in May & then a similar problem with a price increase a few month later so I call Now for them..
So check the bottom of the email & it may have a line like this
This includes discounts totalling £15.00 a month. Your first discount will expire 10/06/2023.
So inlaws had there existing price from may till 10/6/23 & then it went up.
The emails is very unclear as it clearly states at the top "Do nothing and continue with your existing membership for £18.00 a month" & thats what they did.
Had no joy on the phone to NOW, they would not even offer the offer price in the email & ended up having to pay more.

    Ordered, thanks op
hopefully i won't have any issues.
  29. blida251's avatar
The link it takes me to includes a NOW TV subscription. But the description does not? Costs an extra £5 a month.

What classifies as a 'new customer' of Now Broadband in order to get the Quidco?..

Is it 1 or 2 years?...
