Still a pretty nice performer with that 8th gen i5 and most likely you can upgrade memory up to 32 Gigs.
Backlit keyboard is a nice addition too. Use code BACK2SCHOOL33
Would be a perfect for a student if this price is around your budget.

    Hi OP,

I see both i5-8265u and i5-8365u are the same price. Is one better than the other or it doesn't matter which model one buys? Many thanks in advance. Oh and have some heat (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
8365U is faster, so if the same price, get the latter.

    What's shipping says £6?
    davidclack's avatar
I would guess that it is £6 for shipping!

The price is not that awesome, considering you can buy 7300 on ebay for less, but it does come directly form Dell, which is a plus
    Armi's avatar
How is it not direct from dell? These will be purchased systems, and the order is cancelled before it even leaves the depot. They can't sell it as new, so they have to re-test the system to sell it on. This was the procedure when I worked for dell.

Anyone know if the ram is upgradeable and there is space for another SSD?
    plewis00's avatar
Yes, one of the few 13.3" laptops with dual SO-DIMMs unlike the 7390 before it which was single-channel/single-slot only. Only single SSD on this one.

One of the best systems Dell every manufactured imo, the later 7310 onward models have soldered RAM which made them a lot more disposable and shortened lifespan. Parts are easy to find if anything goes wrong but they are so refined, there are few points of failure. I highly recommend the 7300 for a solid and dependable used business laptop, £200 is at the high-end but not unreasonable. (edited)

Looks like a great deal to me, probably a good screen and keyboard, and decent connections
    plewis00's avatar
The screen is IPS and fairly good, it's got decent viewing angles, around 250 nits and mid-range colour - better than most of the cheap stuff in budget laptops. Keyboard is excellent and has really nice tactile response though the keys are a bit small compared to the later 7310.

Got a couple previously, mint condition, they had 6 months of original DELL warranty on them and if bought for business then unlike most refurbished on eBay you can reclaim the VAT - so £166

    This or the Dell 7390?
    plewis00's avatar
7300 is the successor to the 7390 so 7300 all day long - it’s get two/dual-channel RAM slots for starters and Whiskey Lake chips (h/w fixes for Spectre/Meltdown and much higher Turbo).

..honestly don't understand all the 'deals' recently on older-spec'ed laptops that the retailers are clearly trying to get rid of .....another 2017 one here. (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
More like 2019 (probably built 2020) and grade A so not really been used plus it comes with a warranty. You're welcome to spend £300-350 on a budget consumer system with flimsy plastic chassis, poor display and weak CPU though if you prefer.

    Can you update the ram?
    Smoggy1970's avatar
    Yes

You can easily get an 11th gen i5 from CEX/Ebay for around the same price. £200 for a 5 year old laptop is poor. I wonder what the battery degradation is on these? 42wh is poor to begin with, with many modern laptops having 56.
    plewis00's avatar
You won't find many good condition 11th gen i5 for £200 but if you can, they are better especially for the Iris Xe graphics, I would imagine they will be budget models and not comparable to this. If these are grade A then expect they are more likely 2019/20 models and probably not been used much, every grade A from Dell Refurbished I had came with Excellent health battery which is fine.

Can you show some comparable links to 11th gen i5 (1135G7) based laptops? CEX have the warranty but are a total lottery as to what you receive.

How does this compare to a ThinkPad X280?
    plewis00's avatar
Bigger display, more flexible expansion, slightly larger and heavier - I prefer this.

I see used matebooks and magicbooks going for this money.

This or a used matebook for a student?

50784707-nEoDX.jpgWould this one be good enough for photoshop for few years?
    plewis00's avatar
It’s powerful but quite old now, if it’s £599 then it’s overpriced.
  19. Smoggy1970's avatar
    Nice little laptop.
