Got it for £9.99 on S&S
    19DembaBa19's avatar
I got it for £9.99 as well but Iceland 3 for £10.00 is much better deal. They are individual bottles 1.35KG which you can store and don't need to use it all together and also 3 separate bottles is better than a big oversized bottle which is difficult to put in fridge and finish in 4-8 weeks. I would go for Iceland deal as both are same price with Iceland's one bigger in size and separated in 3 bottles instead of big one

Iceland do the 1.35Kg 3 for £10 when they’re on offer.
    Robdataff's avatar
    That's a much better deal.

On last nights Come Dine with Me, the host added this to a Bisto gravy and served it with lamb chops and mash. They all raved about the gravy! I am going to try it and see how is goes. It did look kinda restuarant quality!

People knock it but in culinary terms it’sa great hack. Lots of flavour, umami, sweetness and acidity, will add depth to a lot of sauces !

For those asking about the comparison with the Iceland Offer. (made difficult because one sells by weight, the other by volume).

    1kg=875ml, therefore:

Iceland is 4.05kg/3.54 litres for £10

    Amazon is 4.57kg /4 litres for £13

So I'd say Iceland works out the better deal (edited)
    Robdataff's avatar
Iceland is a far better deal, simply "cos a single 4.5l bottle is an absolute pain in the arse to deal with, compared to three smaller bottles. Coupled with being able to store the unopened ones in a cupboard, rather than a fridge, I elands the winner.

Someone above reckons Tesco do the same deal.

3x1kg for £10 at tesco. = about the same as this almost. Link

Usually the bulky items quality is not the same quality with many products. Haven't tried this but I'd rather not risk it.

4 litres of Heinz is 4.5kg though. So there is that. Only water has a mass of 1g per 1ml.
  6. Newbold's avatar
    From the label:

Store cap down. After opening refrigerate and eat within 8 weeks.

4 litres in 8 weeks? Really?
    Chuggee's avatar
It'll keep for a lot longer, it's full of vinegar which is a natural preservative, but also the crazy amount of sugar too. (edited)
  7. Newbold's avatar
Aldi ketchup is 95p for 650g and always reviews well against Heinz.  Frankly, most people wouldn’t notice the difference if they weren’t shown the labels.

That would be just £5.85 for 4 litres - and no need for a 4 litre bottle clogging up the fridge, with probably most of it going off before being used.
    Leonh's avatar
Hahaha people would definitely notice the difference there nothing alike

Some great tips on what you can use it for. Can I also add that you can pour it over chips!
    Peter99's avatar
    No, that's totally wrong.
You have to put it on the side and dip the chips in
  9. v5535's avatar
    No ketchup on za shawarma!

Im a heinz ketchup snob but refuse to pay ridiculous prices for it. Helmans or Daddys are not bad alternatives tbf. Not quite there but they will do.

I think I’m the only person in the country who isn’t in the least bit fussed about ketchup. I’d never have it with pizza, I’d never choose it over mayo, BBQ sauce or even hot sauce for chips, I’d never choose it over tartare sauce for a fish finger sandwich. The only time I ever eat ketchup is on a bacon sandwich although I guess that makes Heinz pretty good value as one small bottle would last me a year if I didn’t have kids. (edited)

Always add a good squirt of ketchup to a bollognaise sauce. Just gives the edge to it.

i always add a little Levi Roots reggae reggae sauce for a bit of bite.

1L of BBQ sauce made from ⅓ ketchup, ⅓ Reggae Reggae and a can of full-fat Coke is to die for! Heat added as I can just chug it straight from the bottle ;-)

    Spirit vinegar = haraam
    AgentSmith's avatar
Ingredients such as white wine vinegar and cider vinegar are permissible.

Vinegar is produced by two successive microbial processes. The first being an alcoholic fermentation (which is Haraam) and the second an oxidation of alcohol by aceto bacter, when it's molecular structure is changed and it ceases to be an intoxicant. Other varieties of vinegar are produced from beetroot, tarragon and alcoholic spirits. In vinegar the intoxicating factor is destroyed by the microbial process of oxidation hence it becomes permissible. Islam permits any variety of vinegar to be used as a condiment or preservative. (Muslim Food Guide)

Unless you're a chip shop... just no. There's a point where penny pinching becomes a bit silly, and slapping 4 litres of ketchup on the dinner table is firmly over the line...

I am alright with Lidl batts ketchup, 45p per 500ml
    tibby's avatar
I hated it at first but grew into it. Heinz is just too expensive.

I enjoy the phrase "heavy sauce use environment".

I believe this should replace all "Live, Laugh, Love" signs. It's more honest, and less pressure.
    Paul_Archer's avatar
It just means a breakfast van or a burger stall , a cafe or hot dog our local weather spoons refills all its ketchup smaller bottles at the start of each day from one of these bigger bottles

If only that referendum had restricted itself to choosing between Heinz and Aldi ketchups as the nation’s favourite……..

    Wondering if you can freeze?
    Yasmin_A's avatar
You can but it would be a faff trying to get this much ketchup into freezable containers (bearing in mind it'll expand once frozen).
  22. dalebmathieu's avatar
Can I use this in my Vauxhall Astra?
  23. Percy247's avatar
For those that like a bit of burger with their ketchup!
  24. eiamhere69's avatar
Costco used to sell a large 5L bottle of tomato ketchup for under £4, would obviously cost more than that now.

Unfortunately, they stopped selling last year and haven't brought them back they were great.

Pretty sure Home Bargains or B&M have the 1.5K for 3 or 3.49 which makes this expensive at full price. 4.5K would therefor be £10.50 and it comes with a squirty lid so easier to dispense
  27. Dean_Marcus's avatar
That's alot of ice cream topper for your money!

Cheaper than bookers own brand stuff. Excellent find thank you op. Purchased our cafe!

In the last photo which lists the ingredients, it has 148g of tomatoes in a 100g of ketchup! Only Heinz lol
    Newbold's avatar
Not just Heinz. This is the Aldi ketchup:

Tomatoes (148g Per 100g Tomato Ketchup), Sugar, Spirit Vinegar, Salt, Flavourings (Contains 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐲), Spice, Garlic Powder.
