This bike won't set your hair on fire, however, it's a solid choice for anyone just looking for a city bike or a relaxing day in the countryside.

Perfect for parents on family days out, and equally good for anyone just looking for something to ride to work on.

Shimano Altus is good quality, it even uses a Shimano Hyper Glide ("HG"200) cassette, so pretty much the best quality gears, and replaceable after you've worn out 2 or 3 chains on them.

V-brakes are easy peasy to adjust with a 5mm Allen key and replacement Clarks blocks are under £5.

    It's a great user-servicable budget bike. (edited)

I don't get these shops who never mention the bike's weight.
    It is 11.9 Kg (edited)

I have this bike, quite good for the city. I changed the seat to a more comfy one but otherwise kept it stock

If you can afford to spend more would it be advisable to do so? Looking for a commuting bike! Thanks in advance.

Depends if you think it's something you'll get more into as a hobby. A bike like this can take you far, you can dip your toe into slightly rougher trails, or longer distance endurance rides. And from there you might feel the need for something a bit more capable/specialised. But if you're just looking for something casual and reliable then you can't really go wrong with this. As long as you can get an appropriate size. Nothing ruins the experience more than a poorly fitting bike.

The only real "nice to have" on a commuter would be hydraulic disc brakes, which are just a bit easier to operate and more reliable in the wet. But rim brakes are fine and much easier to work on.

How difficult are these to assemble? I have absolutely no experience but like this and want to buy.. Also what size would be correct for a 178 cms guy..Many thanks
    wotguvnotmeguv's avatar
The assembly is akin to very basic bike maintenance which you need to have to look after it anyway.

Attaching handlebars (four allen key bolts), a wheel and adjusting brakes, fitting a seat and pedals. It’s all allen key/screwdriver stuff. I recently built a bike out of the box and it took about 40 mins (including me putting the handlebars on backwards because I wasn’t paying attention).

    Can’t speak to the sizing.

Hello, not clear on the measurements on this. What size would someone recommend for 169cm tall with 70cm inside leg? Thanks.
    metaphysio's avatar
Small. Anything bigger and the standover height is more than your inside leg measurement, and the seat will be too high for you to touch the floor.

Can you pay someone for bike assembly....im lazy when it comes to things like this...
    David_Miller2Et's avatar
Your local bike shop will probably do this for the cost of an hour's labour. If you have Allen keys it's very easy to do yourself and will save you £60.

Nice to see this standard of bike down to this level of pricing. And it's still summer!! I really can't see anything to criticise at this price level for a brand new bike with 9 speeds.

Just to let others know, tis is currently back in stock. I managed to get one ordered today.

Bought off the back of this deal originally. 6' 125kg (big guy) XL frame and really happy with this for fitness. First time on a bike in 14 years, delighted with it, really sturdy, slightly uncomfortable saddle, paired with a £4.99 bike tool from Lidl, and used an adjustable spanner for the pedals, really happy and well in budget. Seems very decent price, 9 speed too, worth it for the components these days! I paid around £220 for a Ridgeback of similar spec 12 years ago (though 7 speed) which I thought was a very good deal at the time so this is very decent.
Says pedals not included under drivertrain, but included under components? Presume they are at this price point.

What is the frame size for this bike?

Looks like a great deal. I bought an almost identically specced Gary Fisher about ten years ago for £150 after years off cycling. Can't believe that prices on decent bikes have dropped so much that we're almost back there again.

Massive amounts of overstocked 2021 / 2022 model bikes in warehouses all over the place, deep deep discounts coming over the summer when 2023 also don't sell as expected

Can I put a proper bike rack on the back of this for panniers?

Note this bike is 8 speed, not 9 speed as originally listed. Still hot!
    Superman_turbo_pro_3000's avatar
Agreed. Nothing wrong with the shimano 8 speed.
Sharp shifting, cheaper KMC Z8 or X8 chains, cheaper Shimano HG 8 speed cassettes when replacing.

It's worth noting you can fit all the different Shimano HG 8 speed Cassettes ...so long as they're 8 speed and not more.

Types of Shimano sprockets for 8-speed (chrome plated sounds nice)

    CS-HG51-8
    CS-HG50-8
    CS-HG41-8
    CS-HG31-8
    CS-HG200-8

    6 foot 2 and 105kg , should I get XL or XXL?
    ArthurDent1's avatar
Conventional wisdom is that it's easier to adapt a bike that's slightly too small (fit longer seatpost ad stem) than to adapt one that's a little too large, but I'd be guided by inseam (measure it accurately by standing against a wall in your socks and placing a book in your crotch - mark the height on the wall with a pencil) rather than overall height.

Received mine this week. It didn't have an assembly manual, just a generic owner manual not specific to this bike. Did yours have assembly instructions?
  26. BrandAmbition's avatar
If I got this would it be adaptable if I decided I wanted different brakes in the future. Does anyone know the weight of the bike?

Received the bike today, could someone recommend a comfortable saddle? Looking to replace the one that came supplied

Expensive but worth every penny. Sadly took me about a decade riding on about 6 different saddles before I found this one. Game changer
