I bought one of these last week as I wanted to try a flip front without spending Shoei money. I wasn't expecting much, but it is a very decent helmet. Fit, for me, is perfect. its quiet and the flip mechanism works well. Even came with a Pinlock visor, which was a surprise as the reviews say it does not. At this discounted price I think its great value.

SHARP ratings on these are pretty poor. Don't risk your head for bargain.

TBH I wouldn't expect it to have a 5* rating as its a modular helmet. Very few of them are.
But, if you look at the Sharp ratings it on the same rating as a Schuberth which is a premium brand.
It makes the ECE ratings and I'm not off to Silverstone this week so I think it'll do the trick.

I think HJC has 5 stars for modular helmets and they are also mid budget helmets as LS2. My impression was that HJC has better quality though (and are a little more expensive than ls2, but still the same price tier)

That's what I'm currently using. Didn't feel as well made as Shoei or Scuberth, but much more comfortable for me and way quieter

The motorcyclists in me can’t vote positively on this. Many factors to look at regarding helmets and a sharps rating isn’t enough on its own. LS2 are a poor budget lid with only some of their upper range worth a tentative look. Imo.

TBH I would have said exactly that if I hadn't bought one and looked closely at how it was made and found it punched well above its weight.. LS2, being a Chinese brand, have done the usual thing of starting cheap then improving rapidly. 15 years ago, who'd heard of HJC, now a respected mid price brand. I'm not saying that I'd go racing wearing this helmet, but for £59 its just great value even allowing for the Sharp rating.

Will the paint on this go all soft and sticky like the two matt helmets i've had in the past?

Halfords have some LS2's for £50-60 which you can try on for sizing, L worked for me but other brands I have been S or M. If you are buying the smaller size it is important to check that the shell is actually different to the large size rather than having two or three layers of foam to make a large shell into a small helmet, unless you like sporting a funny hat and don't mind kids throwing stones at you...

This LS2 model comes in 2 shell sizes for XS/s/m and L/XL. This should avoid the big head effect that you describe. This is a good feature of well designed helmets. I found size L to be a good fit and comparable to L on Shoei helmets, but buying mail order is always a risk.

HJC C10 is what I got my child. Cheapest 22.06 rated helmet on the market. Well made and plenty of helmet sizes. No sun visor is the only negative. It uses a micrometric buckle which may be a pro or a con depending on that you like but definitely faster to do-up and undo.
    HJC C10 £80.50 (edited)

off topic* but is it shoei helmets the biker cops wear here?

Yeah, think they use the Neotec II

Does the lid in these stay slightly open? I bought a bell a while ago for karting, and it does not, and it's really frustrating

Do you mean the visor or the chin section.
If the visor, its not the best that I've come across with a single detent holding the visor open about 1cm then just friction to hold open until fully up. This isn't as good as a multi detent visor.
The chin section stays fully up in place while riding, but this type of helmet is not safety rated while in this position. There are other helmets where the chin section flips right over to the back of the helmet so it can be legitamately worn as an open face helmet.
