About this game

It's been 25 years since fans of Bethesda got a new universe to explore, but the wait is over! In Starfield, players will explore the far reaches of space in the year 2330 as they join Constellation, the last group of space explorers looking for rare artefacts throughout the galaxy.

Always In ControlLike Bethesda's other best-selling titles, you have control. Female, male, blonde, brunette... it's all customisable! How the characters look and who they are is up to you.

ResourcefulIn Starfield, the planets offer many resources to collect so that you may upgrade your gear and modify your weapons to be battle-ready for the next big fight!

Make It YoursCharacters aren't the only customisable in Starfield, as it wouldn't be a complete galactic experience without a vessel. Not only will you be able to customise the exterior and interior of your spaceship, but also upgrade it so that it's ready to take straight into real-time space combat!

The Galaxy Is YoursOnce you've made your character and readied your ship, it's time to explore the countless planets and environments available! From rocky moon surfaces to colourful and strange wildlife: Starfield invites everyone to explore the over 1,000 planets!

There's an awful lot of trolls on here that probably haven't played the game.

I spent a bunch of time this weekend playing it and fell in love. It's got the same Bethesda charm as Fallout 3 and Skyrim, whilst also doing something completely new. I spent 6 hours on the second planet you land on just exploring and just enjoyed taking my time. This game of course isn't going to be for everyone but don't listen to the trolls, it truly is a remarkable game and I look forward to spending many hours exploring space.

Is a troll anyone that has a differing opinion to your own?

What if I played it and found it boring and dated, am I a troll? What if it just looks boring and generic and so I choose to voice that opinion, am I a troll then? (edited)

Free in the Game Pass from today by the way
    MaxJenson's avatar
Well, you're paying for Game Pass, so obviously not free

Was disappointed when one of the preview videos mentioned you cannot land on planets, you just fast travel basically. You can fly a ship in space for combat but sadly not for the landing part.

I have it downloaded on Gamepass but this would probably benefit from 1 year of patches. Game seems unnecessarily demanding.

It's not a space sim though is it? It's a bethesda adventure that spans loads of planets. You couldn't fly your ship in Knights of the old republic but that's still one of my favourite games of all time. If you want to explore space then no mans sky or elite dangerous both do that brilliantly but they don't offer a very good narrative story.

£46 on cdkeys with pre-order bonus (if you are desperate to pick this up now). (edited)

board ship loading cutscene, take off loading cutscene. fast travel to new system loading cutscene . land on planet loading cutscene. take the train to new area on same planet loading cutscene. This game is not what was promised. It isn't skyrim or fallout in space. Nothing about it is open world. Every single part feels instanced dead and lifeless like some lame movie set. The graphics and systems are straight out of a decade or more ago. Not what I was expecting but then again the AAA gaming industry has been dead for a long time

You're not actually allowed to criticise it otherwise you're trolling. Didn't you get the memo?

Really enjoying this so far on pc, have installed the dlss mod and getting 100-140fps on a 4070 at 1440p. Some amazing sidequests so far - 10 hours in. Would recommend!

I'm struggling to enjoy my time with the game due to being so disappointed with the core element of the game. Exploration.

Elder Scroll Dagerfall did a better job, and that's from 1996.

    Not paying £50 lol

Don’t do it. It’s not worth £50. Trial it with game pass, in fact you’ll finish the game in that time and realise the time and money wasted by trial.

    What utter rubbish!

    40 hours in...

It's basically a new Fallout in space with some Everspace style ship combat.

It's not as good as I was hoping but I am still enjoying it.

The fact that you can't take off or land and travelling anywhere in the ship is just fast travel is the main bummer for me. Must say the planets feel very bland for a Bethesda title. It's just a barren wasteland with a few caves or buildings.

Anyone got it working on deck?
    Shahintr's avatar
Even if you did. It’s 20fps at most. - Only way to play it on deck is cloud via gamepass.

FSR 3 is the other but that’ll be Q1-Q2 going by how well Bethesda is with patch and updates. (edited)

Game looks terrible. The face models look like they're from 2005.

In principal buying for Steam is a good approach - a Game Pass sub isnt free esp. when the game's been delayed already and ought to be playable for ages yet, GP doesnt include DLC and wasnt even Day 1. and technically (such as range of mods supported) Steam is better than Windows store method.

Codes ought to be cheaper and one day will be a GOTY edition but £50 is simply too much for a digital game with no resale - cheapest today isnt always a deal.

    Cheaper on cd keys
    LaurenceGough's avatar
Yep it has been for at least a month or two. Still overpriced for the games current state.

Enjoying the game but performance is shocking I'm barely maintaining 60fps at 1080p on high/medium settings with a 6800 and 5800x I know my pc is rather average now but it plays every other game flawlessly. So hard to go from 100+ fps to barely 60. Feels very rough.
    HotDan's avatar
That's not average, it's more powerful than the top 10 most popular GPUs. Just that Starfield is janky. (edited)

I'm loving this game and played it for hours, I may play this all on game pass then buy it on steam when it's cheaper for the mods as I'm not sure if you can use the mods on the Xbox apps version.
    robespeare's avatar
You can mod the Game Pass version. I think I read that Script Extender may be incompatible, currently. You may need to mod manually for now, but the comments sections of bigger mods can clue you in on the process
