Missed ferry - because of long queue at Calasis

I came back from France and my ferry was at 19.25 from classis to dover. I have checked in through Irish ferries at 18:10 and there was a long queue at the UK border control and we cleared at 7.15 and missed the ferry and the next ferry was at 9pm. Am I eligible for any kind of compensation? I don't have any travel insurance. Thanks

You missed the ferry...as crap as it is it's nobodys fault but your own, you should prepare for queues and delays and factor this in.

The ferry wasn't delayed. OP missed it.
OP should have allowed more time to clear the UK border, which now takes longer than it used to for a reason I'm probably not allowed to mention.

I'd say you got lucky only waiting 1 hour and 35 minutes.

    Compensation? Absolutely not

Did you suffer any financial loss?

There's a Curly Wurly in my fridge if you'd like that as compensation? Still in date

No sympathy from me. As a natural pessimist, I tend to arrive way before I'm expected to and I factor in long queues/any delays.

Served me and family well. (edited)

As a real natural HUKD pessimist you would have persuaded the family to not go at all and saved the cash

The way I see it is that the ferry company was extremely accommodating in allowing you to board the next ferry without fuss...

It happened to us - left CentreParcs in plenty of time to get to the ferry, but stopped off along the way - we actually arrived when the ferry was still in port. Sadly we where too late to board and watched as the last 30 or so vehicles drove onboard. The staff where incredibly understanding and told us it happens all the time - just check in the office when the next ferry is available. There is nothing at the Cairnryan ferry terminal and didn't fancy eating out of a vending machine. So we drove to Stranraer and had a meal in a really "greasy spoon" restaurant/ We saw it as an extension to our "vacation" and I took the kids for a walk in Tescos and let them buy some sweets, toys and comics, We had to wait quite a few hours!

On the flip side, i arrived three hours early and they boarded me on the earlier ferry.

I was not asked for extra money for this gesture so no you don’t get any compo for being late and bumped into the next ferry.

You should be glad that you have not been asked to pay for a new ticket or price difference for the later ferry.

    I won't, as I checked in 1.5 hours early

I don't think there's any compensation for carelessness

Missed departures & cancellations on your travel insurance.

"I don't have any travel insurance."

    Oh!

There isn't any compensation as waiting on long queues won't be a reason for compensation.

Thanks all, just asking a question as never used the ferry in the past.

Nope, a 4 hour delay would of got you a meal voucher on the ferry but that's about it .

Ferry company dont owe compensation as it wasnt their fault.
Only ones to blame would be customs and border control for being slow at carrying out checks... but good luck trying to claim from them since they are exempt from being liable for compo payouts
