Cheap Wine & Free Ferry/EuroTunnel @ Calais Wine

It is actually a very good saving if you buy cheap wine in bulk. As the OP states, you avoid the 288.65 pence tax per litre on every bottle. We "fuelled" our wedding this way; buying one of the various "house" Carrefour Red & White wines and it was excellent value. Decent table wine at a decent price. Think we bought 120 bottles of red and white, at around 5€, before Brexit foot-shooting, so around £450. Imagine the crap we'd have had to put up with if we had spent that much in UK! lol. To further put it into context, we always drink 2€ bottles when self catering in France. I guarantee you won't buy a bad wine. a)the french wouldn't stand for it! b)the cheap wine is either the local vineyards or unlabelled big vineyards c)as per tax comments, we start our wine at £2.20 before taking anything else into the equation, therefore, a 4€ wine over here would be £6 minimum.

I’ve done the trip with Pidou a couple of times and each time I create a basket, I compare each item with Majestic and Calais Wine Superstore. Both times I’ve bought the whole order from Pidou - they have great offers on Prosecco and French wines.

I kitted out my wedding doing this. Paid the corkage fee and bought 150 bottles of wine the a couple of kegs from a local brewery. It was about £500 and we had about 40 bottles of wine left at the end. It was basically a free bar but much cheaper.

Get someone else to drive too as at Calais Wine you can sample every wine prior to purchase :) Compare price to Pidou/Majestic too as some are £1.50 cheaper depending on brand.

Decent enough price but dont expect much of the Santa Fe hotel. Very basic, and meal times are akin to a school dining hall experience. Dreadful

If you ask at the ticket office you get 2 free children per one paying adult. Which makes it cheaper.

A standard adult is £19.80 day return making it £39.60 for two adults & 2 kids plus it takes 22 mins and you've got the pier to contend with on the otherside. Or Hovertravel 2 adults & 3 kids £30 and they land directly on the beach. No brainer really????

You have to return before 16:00 or after 18:00. They depart every half an hour until October and then hourly during the winter. You can return whenever you look. The booking portal is on the right hand side of their homepage.

Take it from a local, we hate British stag does.... But one tip. Save yourself some money, don't bother going to Helsinki. It's nice, but not really worth going over for a day. Better saving cash, and spend a bit more time in Tallinn which is much nicer.

You obviously have very limited life experience, then!

Really? Nice bars, good beer and good food at a decent price, friendly folk. What's not to like when you're away with your mates for a few days? If you prefer somewhere like Benidorm or the knocking shops in Prague, you're welcome to 'em.

Couldn’t think of a worse place to have a stag do.

Haha I know I thought that (excited) it’s actually better than it sounds though (horror)

Petrol and diesel used to be cheaper on the island.

I was over there last week working and prices must be affected by goods having to go by ferry. A bridge between the two would be a good investment and promote the economy.

Agreed. It’s a joke.

Someone should list all the “England win the World Cup deals”. Would give them a break from trawling the PSN website for a few hours

Coz the Islanders would escape......Only kidding.... (y)

Umm, i got to Santander last from Plymouth with my dog. Special dispensation coming back from St Malo to Portsmouth. (:I

A dog with a bike wont get on as a foot passenger, I know the security are a bit dense but unless that dog can at least walk on 2 legs and possibly wear a large floppy hat I don't think you will get it on.

Typical, Last night I booked a 6 day crossing (Dover/Calais) for later this month and didn't see this offer until just now. I wonder if it is retrospective. Ah well.

Your dog has a bike? He certainly has no feet

A cycling dog on a ferry? Don't see that very often..

I've had the opposite near me. Papa John's almost inedible but dominos were actually very good.

I bought this last time and honestly pizzas were disgusting, they hardly use any cheese or toppings, was very dissapointed, Papa Johns much better

Good spot

Brittany Ferries up to 3 weeks in France £99 for a car and 2 people, book by 11/4, travel by end of April

Decent deal to get to France. Use day crossings to get the best price.

Probably best to avoid France, all the French people there ruin it!

Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) own Condor I had dealings with them in the 90s when they were sailing out of Torquay, they weren't affiliated with Brittany ferries then and as far as I know they aren't now but I'm out of the debt loop now. edit Bertz99 corrected his comment before I posted mine

Stand corrected on that bit - had seen a friend do Poole to Cherberg via Brittany, get my Brittany discount and be on a Condor - also some other tie in in the port ops. However, checking they are hedged fund owned and presently up for sale.

Brittany Ferries do not own Condor.

That’s only in Wroxall ;) be careful if you venture through it! 🤣 The rest of the island we have the regular amount of toes! (lol)

Easy access from Scotland XD

I live on the Isle of Wight so I'm slightly biased, but this is a lovely family owned hotel in a great, quiet location. Away from the main town, but still just a short walk (10 mins or so) into town or down to the beach.

I've always loved the isle of Wiggit, great for kids

Voted hot but I think this deal or similar runs all year via the hotel’s own website. I stayed in the next door hotel ( Luccombe Manor) in May which is owned by the same company. We are very fussy about hotels and thought it was excellent. Staff, food and pool were lovely. They are not modern hotels but very comfortable and relaxed. Highly recommend sorry my mistake this is normally the price per night it’s an absolute steal for 2 nights

Impossible to find anything as promoted. The web site is slow and not user friendly.

I tried this years ago and when I came back to do my return leg they wouldn't accept the ticket. Saying for the return to be valid, you must have to also take the correct departure. Cost me £80 at the time to get back, cause I had to buy a ticket for the car, there and then....

I know my friend tried this couple of years ago... Good find ...!

I too have been on website to see "Promotion cannot be....." contacted P+O and they have told me there is"limited space" for this offer so you need to book early ....... as apparently people do (and now fully booked for some dates) ..... though it is only hours since this offer has gone live and they are claiming this ????? for an offer that is valid for the next 4 weeks" NB Do bear in mind that the above message is also posted if you have selected exclusion dates

Don't know is the honest answer but be very careful with the terms and conditions e.g if you don't use one leg of the ticket and with computers nowadays I think this could be identified and they do have you credit/debit card details

Wish i knew if my VW transporter is classed as a car or van. Vans are £119 each way :( but the Transporter was converted into a disabled vehicle and has PLG on the V5 doc.

Great price for summer sailings. Managed to get an £85 return in last years sale and enjoyed the trip. Would definitely do this route again.

I Don't think it applys to the weekend Mini cruises they are always dearer, Sorry.

This is the email I've written to p and o So my wife and I went on our first 'taster' cruise with P&O. We had a load of questions about going on a cruise (from whether we should have an inside or outside cabin to whether the weather would be important). We thought that a taster cruise would be the best option before spending a lot of money on a 'proper' cruise. Sadly, the taster cruise that we experienced has meant that we really wouldn't want to go on a proper cruise at all. Although not a terrible time, our expectations were really not met. The food was adequate but certainly not exceptional (the buffet was more about quantity than quality). The nightly entertainment was ok - but nothing great but the daily entertainment was not well executed at all. I was however, pleasantly surprised that the drinks were not ridiculous prices (actually cheaper than some local hotels). HOWEVER, there were a number of very unsatisfactory things:Our dining service was meant to be seated at 8.30pm - the brochure makes it clear that the doors are closed at 8.45pm so you need to be there on time. We got there at 8.15pm and they didn't see us to our table (we were first in queue) until 8.50pm. This happened on two consecutive nights. The black tie night - again, the brochure makes it clear that you won't be allowed to come in unless you are wearing appropriate clothing. No word of a lie - there was someone in the queue who was wearing a polo shirt and what can best be described as a cardigan jacket. One chap on our table was wearing a suit but didn't have a tie on. Really nice guy, but if you are going to have standards, stick to them... We went on to the Ventura. To be honest, the cleanliness of our room was just not very good (see toilet photo and dust on suit carrier attached) and the room we were in was very tired (see plug socket and carpets photo). A few people on board who had been on cruises did tell us that this was nothing like a normal cruise and was almost a booze cruise event - but it really has put us off - I certainly wouldn't want to gamble a few thousand pounds in hoping that our next experience is better.

I booked only last week to go to Rotterdam on 15th December returning on 16th from Hull. There were no codes or deals on the P and O site or here. Is there any way I can amend the booking to claim the 25% reduction. It's cost me and a friend £94 each. (annoyed)

nice price, this is usually two for £70 on the dash offer....if you need hotels try superbreak, 1 night with ferries in Dam/ Bruges form about £89, 2 nights in either for £125 ( 4 nights total ) Be aware though, your up early, 6.30am continental time so if you have a hefty night your well bleary eyed!
