Monster CPU in a tiny form factor. The Intel i7-12700 is a seriously capable processor which cost's around £300 alone.

The ram at 16Gb is great, it is upgradeable too - I personally would choose the 2 x 8gb combination if you're not looking to upgrade anytime soon as dual channel memory is always recommended for performance.

Don't forget to add HDMI option (£10) to connect your monitor, you can leave this out if you have a USB-C solution.

512Gb SSD - PCi Gen 4 SSD, supposedly faster but wont be noticeable to most people, nice to have though.

Pro's~ form factor, upgradeability, durability (has a self-healing bios incase it gets corrupted during a power surge or a failed bios update)

Con's~ Only thing is there is no thunderbolt, would of been nice to see the possibility to add an eGPU but that won't be the case.

This purchase would be for someone that want's a PC that would last them at least the next 5-6 years and still have a smooth experience. This processor is no joke, it can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it. Just don't expect to game on it as it doesn't have a dedicated GPU nor can you upgrade into one later.

OP's price point can be reached with this spec in the sidebar:

- remove OS
- lower SSD to 128GB (it's cheaper to upgrade it yourself later)
- add WiFi + BT (worthwhile even if you don't need WiFi as you open up all Bluetooth devices as well)
- remove the £10 keyboard and/or £10 mouse but each only knock £5 off, you might want them though
- add the HDMI or DP ports
- change internal speaker to Premium Internal Speaker for free

You can drop RAM to 8GB and change the spec yourself later on as it's easy access.

Looks like this is a 12700T not 12700 CPU. The T uses a lot less power, but is also less performant. PL1 is only 35watt, so expect lower clock speeds as compared to the 12700. Still a decent processor. (edited)

Nice first post - heat! Tend to pick these tinyminimicro PCs open-box/used so probably won't bite...

The HDMI add-on isn't required unless you want multiple HDMI outputs - it comes with one HDMI port as standard (and one displayport).

So for my standard work 3 monitor setup best option to get the extra HDMI, or extra DP if that is an option. I get easily confused about what the different USB standards can and can't do ...

what kind of uses would a computer with a super powerful CPU no dedicated graphics card. What is this machine practically used for? to get value for money out of the machine... (edited)
    Parallax's avatar
Well it's essentially a standard, fairly powerful server in a 1L chassis, so it'll do all that and way more. I've run 30 or more containers, 5 VMs etc on one and it uses about 10% of the CPU. Modern CPUs like this will handily outperform standard Xeon server CPUs from 5-6 years ago.

It's a good option because it'll do all this in 10-15W of power consumption, so it's not as low energy as a Pi but it is way more capable.

This thread will tell you everything you need to know about Tinys and the community is very helpful.

A serious home office machine... I wonder how loud it is!?
    stevoRenno's avatar
It's silent most of the time and even under load fan noise is v.quiet...been buying these for years and with upgradability they are perfect for anyone not planning on using it for gaming

As someone said a little misleading, remember a T processor is not as fast. You can use the below to compare

    cpu.userbenchmark.com/
    anuruddha's avatar
Correct. Here is all comparison of all processors in this deal cpubenchmark.net/com…700

T: Optimized for efficient desktop computing.
U: Optimized for laptop power efficiency.
F: High-performance processor used with discrete graphics cards (ex. Gaming)
X: Unlocked for extreme desktop performance.
  6. ahfh1's avatar
Great for running as a Plex server as it's low power and can be left on all the time if it is a 'T' CPU (edited)
    Parallax's avatar
Actually if you're running relatively low CPU tasks the full fat CPU uses almost exactly the same as the T version at idle. The difference is that the non-T can go faster under load, which uses more power; but it gets the job done faster than the T so I think it's pretty much a wash-up in power use - use more power for less time, or less power for longer. Bought the previous gen when it was offer during COVID seasons. Took a while to be built and shipped from China?
But it's a brilliant little piece of kit, it's left on 24×7 for literally a couple of years running a hypervisor for me (proxmox).
  8. TeamMCS's avatar
Any clue how this would cope running 24/7? My old server is getting a bit long in the tooth

Also looking at Mini PC options for replacing server running VM's and Containers. I'm looking for decent processor for Plex transcoding to 4K to 2 TV's at a time, and at least 32GB RAM (ideally 64GB)

Enough horsepower to encode a HEVC 10-bit 4K 60Hz video in realtime with some to spare.

I want to upgrade my home server from a raspberry pi 4to something stronger. Would this be a good fit?
    gen271674's avatar
Yes. Just a little! My phone is more powerful than pi 4.

I picked up an i9 M80q a couple of years ago in this form factor for a decent deal… I can honestly say for home office etc. these are great, quiet unless you’re really hammering them and then not too bad… I tweaked the ram up a bit as my work involves running virtual machines and/containers but for a “work” machine I see no need to upgrade any time soon… if you want to play games less than 15 years old then maybe this isn’t for you but if you want to work from home these are great

N.B. HDMI 2.1 'TMDS' is basically 2.0 spec. Not a fan of this being allowed on marketing materials, especially when it's usually HDMI 2.1* and only elaborated in small print.

This picture won’t display properly to see what you’ve chosen, but having a quick look on the page the hdmi Port for £10 like mentioned above and increase the storage of the ssd from 256 to 512gb for £20 I’d do, I wouldn’t add more cost.

I am getting £539 including the voucher which is auto applied.

This is a great deal. But SFF chassis put me off from this deal. These cases very hard to add custom gpu,psu etc.
    bornagainst's avatar
    That's a plus, not a negative...
  19. Jack_Ch_'s avatar
Would it fit a small form factor GPU? More specifically the GTX 1650 Low Profile card.

    No

  22. face-crab's avatar
This has two m.2 slots so you could actually run a m.2 extension to the outside of the chassis. Maybe secure to case and use an m.2 egpu adapter. If you were that way inclined.

Gentle ladies and gentlemen, I am In, I have ordered with the config that one of you kindly recommended (16 Gig, larger Ssd and skip the OS etc.

Now I have a few questions that I am hoping you might be able to help me with. I have primarily bought this to be a home server. I also have a few raspberry pis (version 4 and 3).

I want to run Home Assistant, Open Media Vault, PleX server and a bunch of random containers. I also would ideally have a windows 11 running so I can use the PC as a light desktop computer as well.

Ideally I would use one of the raspberry pis for Open Media Vault and to connect all my hard disks to. This would allow me to store it out of the way with all the hard disks.

My thinking is my best option would be to use the pi4 as my NAS with OMV on it. Then put everything else on the Lenovo and skip using the raspberry pi 3.

I would then install proxmox on the Lenovo and have Home assistant OS running, somelinux running for the dockers and then windows 11 running for my desktop PC experience.

I will be using a wired network connection using 5e/cat6 between the devices and router.

    Make sense? Any comments?
  24. xenept's avatar
My pi4 is also now struggling with plex so I need something a bit beefier.

I'm thinking of going with windows as it will mean I can also use office stuff and vms will give me the best of both worlds.

Like others, will go with basic storage but how do you go about transferring windows license across, or do they provide a key and you can sort it out yourself?

Was also going with 32gb ram so interested in sourcing this cheaper elsewhere as I didn't consider that.

    Has anyone received it yet?
I ordered a laptop during megadeal and since then they have delayed the shipping twice and a weird thing the money for it was pending but not it completely disappeared. Not showing pending ans has not taken yet.
Don't know what is good on?!
    TeamMCS's avatar
Bit out of date now but yeah. I've received all my Lenovo orders. No particular issues other than it being glacially slow.

I actually returned one item, and cancelled another shortly after ordering. 10/10 from me tbh if you don't mind waiting a month for a delivery (which is odd given it's coming from Europe)

Ordered on 10/09. Received an email from Lenovo on 21/09 stating "Your package has arrived".

Checked the UPS tracking and said it was delivered on 21/09, however if clicked through to "shipment progress" tab it tells a whole different story. They requested a return to them 15 minutes after dispatch!

Called them (wasting 15 minutes) to request refund.
