sorted byPrice cap from october is about £0.27 per KWh. So 2500w will be about 0.67p per hour IF its being constantly run at 2500w.
The assumption with 'oil-filled' radiators is that as soon as they hit a temperature they will switch off. So realistically it' will probably run at about less than 0.50p per hour once it hits a set temperature.
ETA - just arrived. Well packed without excessive plastics (though the usual expanded polystyrence infills to stop movement, which could be avoided. The unit seems to be good quality and quite discrete, if you like the contemporary black-powder coated look. It goes together easily (philips required to attach cord winder, , otherwise tool-free) - so 5 minutes after delivery it's ready to go. The power cord seems heavy-duty rubber insulated, so OK. When started, heats up fast, no smell on first use (like many convectors). Seems fine overall.
Quite small and neat. Weight is not too bad and it moves easily on castors - I can't see it leaving a permanent "dent" in carpets, etc.
Only downside to date is that I'm not sure what the buttons on the unit itself do, as the on/off and function setting seems to be only via the remote, which is small and has no markings to suggest what it is. I presume the unit controls are just for the "timer", but have little interest in that. There is also nowhere to keep the remote on the unit (a small pocket wouldn't seem to be impossible to engineer), so I can envisage a hunt for the remote to avoid a useless heater unless I arrange something.
All in all, seems well worth the money paid, although maybe not the full price asked ex-offer. Wait for the next drop in price and jump in , if you need a usefull little heater. (edited)
- it will NOT work with an external timer. Not only is manual intervention needed, but it starts at maximum output until changed.
- The timer is just a sleep timer, not a start-up timer, so useful when using at night, but not that useful....
- The thermostat measures the heat of the unit, not the room, so it's a case of suck-it-and-see
However, it's dirt cheap as a heater for average use and the "extras" may (or may not) come in handy. When the cold comes, it will allow me to drop the background central heating temperature and heat the area I am in far better than the thermostatic radiator controls I have, which seem to work as they want, not s I set them! I'm not sure if it's worth buying this now, or waiting closer to winter? Is the price really that good?
It's a good price for an oil-filled radiator and seems to have no major defects according to reviews. We'll see.
Important, because come summer we put them all in the loft. Looks like this oil one would probably need to permanatly live downstairs somewhere.
