Not an apple fan boy but being a tech person I believe upgrading to series 9 might be worth it, saw a video on how "double tap" feature on series 9 works and was super impressed. (edited)
    MyCaII's avatar
The feature already has existed for years on the series 4 and above. To turn it on you go to accessibility settings and enable quick gestures (make sure it’s set to always on).

unfortunately apple is marketing a pre existing feature as new.

So price drop for us Brit’s this year the 9 is £20 less than last years 8 , the ultra is £50 less and the 15 pro is £100 less than last years 14 pro which shows we pretty much got ripped off last year

Foreign exchange rates have bounced back for europe from the Ukraine war effect.

Do these compare to the normal series 8? I can't quite tell the difference. I want to get one for my dad that basically allows him to answer calls on his watch, send texts via siri and has the fall detector thing..

Doesn't need to be Cellular tho, just answer calls from his phone on it. (edited)

Same processor as the 8, no always on display, slightly smaller screen and no ecg. Very similar but series 8 wont be worth the extra cost for most people

    Worth posting Andy

Tempted to switch to this from series 6, but feel like I am going to miss always on display..
    johnwillowlfc's avatar
    Author
If you like the display then id say stick with it. They do have series 8 for £80 more on refurbished store however if you want and upgrade….

what's the battery life like on these?
    NevenNachev's avatar
Junk . Not even a day
  7. pedropdx's avatar
Currys seem to be price matching on the chat BTW
    daniel.snape's avatar
    Yep, they are

Are these better than the series 7? Offering 134 trade in value so would bring price down to 85
    johnwillowlfc's avatar
    Author
Really depends on what you want the watch to do John. Series 7 has better features with ecg and always on display etc. only thing that’s improved is the processor. Worth looking at my recent post for series 8 refurb?…
  9. bebetositu's avatar
What is the return policy? Is it 14 days from delivery? and free by post?
  10. SharxRipz's avatar
Do you think this works with employee discount?
    johnwillowlfc's avatar
    Author
If you’re an Apple employee only you can answer that. Unless you referring to the EPP gateway discount some workplaces have access too. I have checked and no discount is available (edited)
  11. missLn's avatar
How long do you think it will be sold at this reduced price for? Until the new watches are released or until the 22nd September when these are available?
    johnwillowlfc's avatar

This is the new RRP going forward

Hopefully John Lewis lower to £219 too - 2 year warranty with them.

This is a good watch / deal for anyone below apple series 5 ; The main feature that it is missing is ECG function which can be life saving ; i think it is perfect for teenagers though
    MyCaII's avatar
It's a shame they see this a pro feature when it could save so many lives. Should be on all their watches. They'll probably bring it to the SE once they add more features to the regular models to differentiate them. I guess the larger display, better processor, always on display, and blood oxygen are not enough to them. (edited)

Apple Watch 8-9! Seriously, what’s the point? Who wants a ‘faster’ watch? New features have nothing a software upgrade wouldn’t be able to do. As for iphone 15…..Apple have lost the plot and are more concerned about saving the planet than it’s customers paying fortunes for their products.
    jon81uk's avatar
Most people won't be upgrading from Watch 8 to 9, they will have an older model. I've got a series 6 and I probably will upgrade to a 10 next year. Same with the iPhone, the number who upgrade every year now is small, most will keep them for two years. I've got a 12 pro, will probably get the 16 pro next year, already replaced the battery in my 12 so it will easily last another year.
  16. themachman's avatar
My series 3 is still going strong, mind I can't use apple pay because it doesn't get any upgrades these days

Still does all the stuff I want it to do though like, tell the time
    gingerwarrior13's avatar
I was the lucky recipient of a 3 from a friend. Going strong too, but annoyingly my wrist got stuck between my car seat and the central console when I was trying to get something. Basically detached from the case, making it no longer waterproof. Superglue has kept it working otherwise

Thanks for this, just got Curry’s to price match, as I had a £40 voucher, so cost of £179 and it’ll be delivered tomorrow.

    Same, good spot

Is this the SE 2nd generation?
    Booloo69's avatar
Looks like 3rd gen as says not available untill 22.09.23 ??
  19. hdhani's avatar
Will the price go down on other sites too or only on the apple site?
    doppo666's avatar
Who knows! best to keep a look out

I have an old series 4 that still works well…. But I fancy an upgrade. What difference would I notice with this version please?
    johnwillowlfc's avatar
    Author
I also have series 4 and im going for this. My brother upgraded to this last year from a series 4 and the performance is much better. Battery life also an improvement as the series 4 will likely have deteriorated now
  21. Daniel_Stan's avatar
Does it have NFC? Can I pay with it at POS? Can it be used with android phones?
    johnwillowlfc's avatar
    Author
Supports apple pay so yes does have POS, but you do need an iPhone sadly
  22. Godders84's avatar
Do we think this is gonna be the best price - or will other retailers drop further?

Who knows? Usually if it is lower its not by much

Can I use Stava on this?

Also, can I download playlists from Spotify?

Basically wanting to go for a run without my phone!
    kane_th_gaming's avatar
    Idk
  26. pedropdx's avatar
I'm surprised nowhere else has reduced their prices so I can just go pick one up now and not wait until the 22nd
  27. chitychatty's avatar
I don't pay much attention to these posts cos a)I'm not an apple bloke and b)I've got better things to spend my money on (like living, or heating, or kids) but... the missus is after a new tech watch and she's Apple.

Is it a correct observation that you pay an awful lot of money for tech which other companies can bring for way cheaper? Looking at the amazfit types...
    jon81uk's avatar
Apple Watch is a similar price to the Samsung Galaxy Watch really. I'm not so familar with Amazfit, but doesn't seem that much cheaper.
  28. DealKingForever's avatar
Why is it in stock on 22nd is this new model ? Or old model ?
    jon81uk's avatar
Its the new SE model. So will have the better chip (same as the old series 8 ) compared to the old SE, but not as good as the new series 9 which offers more features.
  29. AM700's avatar
Does this one have fast charging? When I compare it with another model like watch 9, fast charging is only flagged on the 9
  30. bairn1876's avatar
How does this work with phone calls instead of using your mobile or playing songs etc? Do you need to pay anything additional?
    johnwillowlfc's avatar
    Author
The GPS version you can use to answer calls but only if it’s connected to your iPhone via bluetooth in close proximity. The cellular version at a additional premium can take calls with the iPhone connected, however you need to link the watch to your mobile provider at an additional monthly cost. Only a few networks support apple Watch however
  31. Optimus2050's avatar
    Is this SE1 or SE2?
    krispsnkrs's avatar
    SE2, just a price reduction
