I've worked as a mechanic in a Suzuki dealership for 20 years since serving my apprenticeship. I might be biased but they are great, pretty much trouble free cars. Engines are super reliable. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. How many do you / have you seen broken down on the hard shoulder?
    koimaster's avatar
Agree. I've ridden suzuki motorbikes for 20 years and have never had any engine or electric problems. Very reliable and cheap to fix

Interesting comments here. Most people who've owned them seem to think they're great with the exception of those who compare them with cars which are much more expensive new. Those who don't like them have never owned one but why would they?
My experience is that I moved from an E class Mercedes to one of these. Guess which I feel was the better car? No prizes for guessing Mercedes.
Except, the reason for the move was I needed a tough little SUV to bounce around the countryside and the Vitara does that far better than the Mercedes could ever have done.
It's x 4x4 which this isn't so has better off road and snow ability than this but now with 80k on the clock, it has no rattles, everything has worn well, has cost nothing in maintenance other than fluids, filters and tyres and is still worth 3/4 of what I paid for it in 2019 when it was 4 years old and already done a big chunk of depreciation.
These cars are so tough and wear so well, there's no need to buy a new one. If you really want to save money which is the point of coming on HUKD, get a 3 year old one where someone else has paid the depreciation and enjoy years of reliable, economical and enjoyable budget motoring.

Spoiled in my opinion by very light steering, but it's pretty solid and the interior is made with harder more durable plastics. The Speedo cowl on a sunny day reflects badly on the inside of the windscreen which annoys me!
    Mr.Nutts's avatar
If you mean the reflection of the top of the dashboard, polarised sunglasses will eliminate that glare.

22k and you wana buy a Suzuki? Will be worht half of that in less than 2 years
    tony4563's avatar
Why not? Well spec'd and one of the most reliable cars on the road. Your depreciation value after 2 years is ridiculous. You need to learn to skip by posts if they don't agree with you, instead of being a clueless troll

We bought last week one from Suzuki in high Wycombe and got £2750 of RRP plus 3 free services, 4 years AA cover and 4 year’s warranty, I was told this deal is for cash or finance customers in September only.
    FieldMarshal's avatar
Goodluck. Expect to loose another £10k after 2 years..

I really like the suzuki range I would love one of these to replace our awful ecosport but cars to expensive at the mo

The one piece of advice about car buying you can learn on HUKD is don't get car buying advice from HUKD comments.

For me, the biggest attraction of the vitara would be the sunroof.

Had one of these in one of them lease plans for three years got it during covid paid 320 a month no deposit ,a garage took it off us and gave us a grand more than we owed on the plan earlier this year and we bought a 7 year old VW Tiguan for 9 grand white edition diesel paid upfront,it’s a much better car than the more modern vitara it drives nicer has more room and the engine is economical and perky.
    Smallesttrade's avatar
I was tempted to have a look/test drive but with your comments I think I’ll keep my 65 plate Tiguan

There's a 2020 Renault Mégane RS 300 Trophy on Auto trader for £20k currently with low miles. Practical 5 door family hatch that just happens to have 300bhp and is good for 167mph and just over 5 secs 0-60.
    That or this?? :/ :/ :/ :/ :/ :/ :/ :/ (edited)
    BattleBeast1's avatar
Where are you going to do 167mph and 0-60 in 5 secs
  11. somebloke1's avatar
Hot, purely for the use of the word ‘Boosterjet’ in the name.
    paulde2007's avatar
Yes that means mild hybrid. So hybrids give little benefit. A mild hybrid gives almost none but costs more to buy and run. Yay. What a con
  12. dukuman's avatar
    Thanks bought 2

screw SUVs. More dangerous, more air pollution.
    paulde2007's avatar
I have a an suv crossover (so basically this car but a different make) far far less pollution.... oh wait that's because its fully electric.

You see even a small petrol car will have more co2 than the biggest of evs. Its the fuel that is the biggest causing factor.
  14. paulde2007's avatar
So when it says mog is 53mpg, that's optimum conditions. Real world will be about 45 across all roads and all times of the year. Wow a 1 mile more than my Ford focus did years ago.

What this doesn't say is this is a mild hybrid. In other words pointless in terms of efficiency and environmental
  15. deeperthought's avatar
Beware hybrid battery replacement costs ( quite far down the line admittedly)
    paulde2007's avatar
Be aware. Fact check alert.. the above post is factually incorrect.

Hybrid tech is relatively old tech. Ev tech is fair new and even then the battery replacement (whuchbhas obviously many many more batteries vs a hybrid and especially a mild hybrid like this) and even those are coming close to the cost of an engine replacement.

Sorry, I'd hate for your incorrect message to put people off. Although mild hybrids are a total con

I am not sure this is a great deal, main dealers are advertising on autotrader for less at £21999, Ian Grieve Falkirk
Maybe I am missing something, the Go model (not sure of the difference) is cheaper

Had one of these as a holiday rental this year. Plenty of gadgets, plenty of space, fuel economy seemed decent, but drove like a blancmange. Can't have it all I suppose...
  18. thewolf8u's avatar
Had a look at one of these in a show room and it’s tiny for an SUV. It’s got the same size boot as a Ford Focus. Not what I want from an SUV.
  19. Jay-Sea's avatar
Great little car. Reliable and decent to look at.
  20. kwasny2000's avatar
I own old basic sx4 from 2013 and love this car it's so fun to drive in town, for school runs ect. Would love to stay with Suzuki these cars are so underappreciated for some reason. Vitara looks like great option but why there's only 1.4 engine option !?!
    BattleBeast1's avatar
There was a 1.6 and a 1.0 turbo......seems to be just the 1.4 hybrid with various hybrid options.
  21. AA_2019's avatar
Great cheap car for 2015 (£18k new back then), but it is 2023 now

KIAs or MG for similar money are much more modern
    ducaticam916's avatar
Kia are ok. MG are utter junk
  22. TiredParent's avatar
How much is the road tax for this?
    dcx_badass's avatar
After the 1st year all cars have the same road tax now, other than zero emissions vehicles (for now). (edited)
  23. AltyAnt's avatar
Properly fun to drive, mega reliable family wagon. Bought one of these 6 years ago and it's never missed a beat. Luxurious? No. Cracking value? Yup
  24. La_Dispatcher's avatar
To the people criticizing, name a more affordable mild hybrid SUV that isn't Chinese. (An actual SUV not a crossover). I'll wait.
    acerza89's avatar
bot comment, you spelt critizig with a 'z'.
  25. themorgatron's avatar
I hired one on holiday, seemed like a nice car but the economy was horrendous - 30mpg travelling in Crete. Mild hybrid seems utterly pointless with such figures.

Every mechanic I know sings the praises of Susuki.
    paulde2007's avatar
Yes because its naff car, hybrids are naff and mild hybrids give almost no benefit over tradional petrol
  26. d3fy's avatar
Wow - 3 year warranty, class leading.
    hcc27's avatar
The thing is, you probably won't need it. Suzuki and Toyota almost always at the top of the leaderboard for reliability and warranty claims.
  27. Flumple's avatar
Anyone used this site before? Do they seem reliable?
  28. yespleasesir's avatar
22k for a suzuki! The world's gone mad!
    Eagerbeaver's avatar
In case you weren't looking - it has. I think an even bigger shock for me was a few years ago when a neighbour spent £32K on a VW!!!!

This is actually pretty good value for a new car but even better value at about 3 years when it will be more like £15K and still have plenty of life.
  29. paulde2007's avatar
22.5k for a suzuki and a hybrid. Not sure which I feel more ripped off by
